      Yeah, The Lost Levels just feels like a terrible romhack of Mario 1, and while it is true that Mario 2 was a reskin of Doki Doki Panic, what people seem to forget is that it always has been a Mario game during it's development, but then some TV show that Japan had happened which was why it became Doki Doki Panic in the first place. Then by the time when it was time for America to have a Mario 2, and since The Lost Levels would be way too difficult for American players, they turned Doki Doki Panic back into a Mario game like it was intended.

      Fun fact, but Nintendo of America decided not to release the Japanese Super Mario Bros 2 in America because of one employee. The employee was a hardcore gamer, and when they gave him the game to try it out he _hated_ the game. Despite the success of the NES and Super Mario Bros 1, Nintendo was still being extremely cautious about the North American video game market because of the Crash of 1983, and they felt that if a guy who loved video games hated a game so much then it was too risky to release the game in America.

    I think it was a smart decision to revamp DDP into SMB2. By 1988, the graphics of NES games had improve drastically over the first gen games.
    SMB2 in Japan was just a harder, more frustrating SMB1, and it wasn't developed by Miyamoto, who was making Zelda at the time.
    And from what I understand, Miyamoto supervised the conversion and added some elements to make it more accessible, as he usually does. Overall, I think they made the right choice.

    I remember thinking how great this game was going to be after seeing the commercial, and was disappointed when I played it, and it wasn't anything like the original super mario. • @the-NightStar
      @the-NightStar Před rokem +2

      I don't believe that for a second. Because as someone from back then, that's not how Mario 2 was received by anyone. There WAS no "formula" for Mario becuase as far as we knew there was only 1 game. So everyone assumed this was a natural evolution of Mario, and everyone was blown away by how you could actually ride enemies, go vertical and horizontal, how you could have four characters, pick up things, and throw things. Everyone back then actually saw this game as everything Mario used to be plus more and that's why it was so successful. So you sound to me like one of those people that didn't grow up with this game and is just trying to use information everyone knows NOW, to SOUND like you grew up with it.

    Fuji TV actually only created the player concepts, they commissioned Nintendo to do all the other work.

    There wasn't one.
    There was only the NES system ads that mentioned it, but there wasn't a standalone ad in the US, probably because, at the time, not may people knew about the game, and even fewer actually had the system. So, the idea was to save money by advertising several games at once (like in the "what will the future bring from Nintendo ad), along with the system itself.
    By the time of SMB2 in 1988, the NES was hot, and SMB was popular, so it made sense to advertise it by itself.

    Sounds like a repeat of that 1983 Atari "Mario Brothers" ad. The established pronunciation of "Mario" would be represented by an orthographic word example as this: "MARket-shIp-Open" (the capital letters are how you'd actually say "Mario" in that order).

    The Part where he says dream isnt meant to be a a plot hint, because the prototype theyre advertising on doesnt have the ending implemented yet.
