    By saying "Upper Serbian", did you mean "Upper Sorbian"?
    Although we do have the letter Ř in our Upper Sorbian alphabet, we do not have the same sound that it represents in Czech.
    We pronounce it very lazily as š (after p and k and very rarely after t) or s (usually, but not always, after t):
    Our "při" is pronounced as "pši",
    our "křiž" is pronounced as "kšiž"
    and our "třiatřiceći" (33) is pronounced as "tsi-a-tsiceći"
    (as in "Třista a třiatřiceći třelcow třěla z třechi do třista a třiatřiceći całtow.")
    But thank you very much for mentioning us! :D

    I'm Indian, so I can very easily manage the rolled/trilled R, but the consonant cluster itself is very unusual for me. Needed these physical cues to figure out what needs to happen.

    I finally got it! My tip is roll your r and then slowly transition into the ř while you roll. Roll it and slowly and the g sound rather then trying to do it at the same time instantly. That worked for me I struggled forever and then suddenly got it after trying that one time

    Great & very useful video 👍. I'm currently practicing "Říkání Ř" ;-). For people from Poland, this is the most difficult consonant to learn, it is similar to Polish RZ and R pronounced at the same time.

    I hear polish "r" and "ż" but like it was "rż" connected to each other. Are there any differences between czech "Ř" and polish "Ż"?

    • @autentickacestina
      @autentickacestina  Před 3 lety +4

      Im am not polish expert, but I would say in the czech ř the toungue is vibrating, while in ž it stands still. The position is similar.

    • @Lemurektr
      @Lemurektr Před 3 lety +6

      @@autentickacestina I can say both separate but at the same time - even that I'm polish - it's imposible 🙈 I guess long time ago we had similar sound but we lost it - we have rz and ż and it is now the same sound - ž. Anyway czech language is really beautiful - for polish people sounds cute ❤️ I wish I could learn it, greetings from Poland! 🇵🇱❤️🇨🇿

    • @WojciechStachowski
      @WojciechStachowski Před 2 lety +3

      @@Lemurektr Initially I had the same impression regarding ř, that this sound is just polish rz or ż (like in word: úřad, dřevo) and this the way how I usually pronounce this letter, but after this video I understood that beginning of ř is more vibrating like rż (but not in every word). However, regarding ž - this is more like polish ź (or even żi), because ž is much softer than ż (compare żaba and žába). So for me ž is like č (sound between cz and ć) and š (sound between sz and ś).

    Hello. I have never been able to roll an r. I have tried a few weeks. Do you think its possible for an adult to ever get the r roll when someone has never their whole life?

    • @autentickacestina
      @autentickacestina  Před rokem +3

      Hi! I definitely think it is possible! With practice you will get to it. I know a Czech friend who himself was unable to roll r till adulthood and with practice and determination he finally learnt it ;)

    Sounds the same as polish "rz" in most words, at least to me, do you think a Czech would notice my accent?

    • @autentickacestina
      @autentickacestina  Před rokem +2

      It is hard to tell since I cannot hear you but generally polish "rz" sounds to me more like ž, so I think a Czech would notice :)
