- I Rode A BMW K1600 GT SE and what a Heavyweight Rocket Ship it turned out to be. The BMW K1600 GT SE is more of a sport tourer rather than an all around tourer which the K1600 GTL is. The K1600 GTL will be the next bike I try to see if that is more suitable for what I am looking for. However the BMW K1600 GT SE is a top spec bike, very comfortable and planted to the road too but has so much power. This makes the BMW K1600 GT SE a top contender for my next bike but perhaps the K1600 GTL may be the perfect match yet?

Maybe try the Road King again but with upgraded suspension, seat, and cam with a Proper Dyno Tune. Those changes really transform the bike.
I have 2015 Black k1600gtse. Brought 6 months old, 1,200 miles, 14 k. Would never by new. Love it. Great all round bike. Safe riding dude.😁👋

I ride a 2022 Sport Edition K1600GT fully loaded just like yours (Canadian here!). I actually traded in my 2012 K1600GT for this upgrade. Put 52,000 amazing miles on that one - never a single issue, took me on countless adventures across Canada and the US.
For the GT, a top box isn't essential, but you can easily add a factory one if you must have it. If the saddlebags aren't enough for a trip, a waterproof roll bag straps on easily and holds everything you need.
I've also owned a KTM 1290 SA (adventure bike itch) and a Harley FLHTCU (nice ride, but heavy and just not the same). Honestly, the K1600GT is the most engaging motorcycle I've ever owned. Puts a smile on my face every mile. And would I buy a third one? In a heartbeat, if this one ever wears out!
This bike (including the previous years models) would make your Harley feel so agricultural and that would also be the same for the latest really expensive HD CVO RG and ST offerings.
I had the GTLe which is more a Goldwing competitor but much faster. The engine is just sublime and eats touring for breakfast. Only drawback is the weight when moving it around the garage or on an adverse camber. As I’m getting on a bit I found it just a bit too heavy, I had it for nearly 3 years without complaint, having toured abroad I’ve legally done 140 mph and it’s steady as a rock. It also handles like it was on rails in the Picos. Sold it for an RT1250 which is just easier to handle around the garage. I lost an absolute packet in depreciation after 3 years. So if you are looking for one get a nice second hand one.
Its interesting to hear the comments about how "heavy" it is. HD baggers are 100-200 lbs heavier. I just picked up a 2023 K1600B Midnight for 28K, way better deal than a Harley Road Glide.
It's more fun to try and ride a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slow. I push many of the modern bikes you need to be on a track, or be pretty reckless on public roads. When you ride a modern bike legal speeds it gets boring. I have two Harley's now. I had sold my Z900RS (fantastic bike) for a LRS, so I wouldn't kill myself.
You're a lucky man for riding that top dog machine! I rode WITH a GTL, followed him down a mountain on my EVO. We chatted at the bottom.
Wow. You and I are in the same position. We both want the same specs and iv went back and forth with all the 1600's and I think I would go with the GTL. I want to see your review on boths these bikes and look forward for the GTL review.

Sargent saddles makes a passenger bCk rest for this as well as RT if u don't want to use topbox...

I flogged my Harley’s (Streetglides and LRS ) and replaced with a new K1600GT and 1250 GSA - Hands down better all round than anything a Harley can do- and when touring a different gravy. The GT/GTL btw are different riding positions -get the GT and add the top box 👍🏻
My son has the b version which is a little more relaxed seating wise but still a screamer...he says it ticks all the boxes for him!!..😅.. Ride Safe

BMW do make a factory top box. (I have one)
I too have a factory top box on my GT. I would like to know if the GTL is more comfortable as I have never ridden one.
@@adrianvervoort852 Tried the GT and GTL back to back - you sit down into the GTL making it feel like the Goldwing due to the deeper driver seat. Preferred the GT as I am 6'3 and the GTL bent my knees too high up. Did like the reach though as it gave me the less aggressive forward lean that finally drove me off my Concours 1400 after 10 delightful years...
If You like this You will love the BMW K1300 GT yes it 8s only a 4 pot not a 6 pot but it is more nible amd lighter plus the engine is bulletproof and it is still rapid. You can have one for less then 5000 pounds.
If you do lots of long tours and want to keep yourself fit moveing it in the garage sure i have eaten my words as you know and bought the BMW 1250 gs (second hand) with just 700km on the clock as they are all buying the new 1300 gs over hear you can make a snapper and i was sick and tired of paying huge bills at HD .
The idea of putting helmets into a box kind of goes out the window if you’re on a big trip and you need all that space for other things.

So 24 valves and who knows what else to be covered in the service? I dread to think of the maintenance costs. No wonder they're selling them cheap 2nd hand.

Good, I'm a big Harley fan (have a sport glide too) but I've tried one and from a "makes sense" only point of view they are great
