The maket trend can turn around very quickly. In fact, the indexes often switch from a bear market to a bull market when the news is at its worst and the mood of investrs is at its lowest point. I read an article of people that grossed profts up to $150k during this crash, what are the best stocks to buy now or put on a watchlist?

If you lack market knowledge, your best bet is to seek advice or support from a consultant or investing coach. Contacting a consultant may sound simple, but it's how I've managed to stay afloat in the market and increase my portfolio to roughly 65% since January. It is, in my opinion, the best way to get started in the industry right now.

I'm from Sri Lanka and this video perfectly sums up our situation. The Rajapakses and all the other corrupt politicians in parliament have stolen money from Sri Lankans via commissions taken from foreign projects. This is why they encouraged very expensive Chinese infrastructure projects so they could earn off them on the side. Their shady money is in foreign bank accounts and if it could be returned to the SL economy it would help at least a little.

There is a similar story of political dynasties and identity politics in Mauritius where I live. What never fails to amaze me is that the people keep re-electing politicians from the same families and then blame the government for corruption, nepotism and bad administration. As the quote from Einstein goes, 'the very definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result'. Unfortunately in Mauritius there isn't a strong opposition and as a result power has mainly lied between two political families since independence in 1965 but I would say that our politicians are not as terrible at public administration when compared to Sri Lanka.

Its When we were under British rulers and soon after we got independent in 1948 and until 1970 everything was alright.
In 1972 , our country became a socialist republic and thereafter internal civil crisis had started. Youth had a battle with the government in 1974 and those youth have set fire and have destroyed and done damages to property and lives. Also most of the youth have got killed by the government.
After 1948 all Leaders have obtained loans and not paid back on later stages.
We had a battle started in 1983 with the LTTE , a terrorist group for 30 years. That war destroyed the economy as we had to buy weapons , equipments and extra expenses for tri forces and police. Also they bombed most of the places including Colombo city , airports and so on. Money wasted for reconstruction.
Anyway, present plight is due to politicians as they ran behind commissions offered. They did highways under Chinese government and did a massive an unwanted investments for an extra harbour and an airport which has not functioned so far. These were the burdens we have carry today as there's no gain from any of thses projects. We now have only the pain.
We give free education from grade 1 to 12. Text books are given free of charge . Also material for students uniforms and free meals up to certain grades.
University education too is free and massive scholarship programs are in progress.
Health is free. Also many subsidiary programs for low income families are functioning with the changes of governments. Politicians propose and promise multiple things to people to get them voted. But people do not know how the politicians give things free of charge. Politicians mis use most of the loans for their personal reasons. This made the situation bad to worse.
Covid vaccination program and the leaders who carried out it too is responsible for today's crisis.
There were several presidents from 1948 todate.
All have a list of promises. They distribute the list from door to door when there's an upcoming election.
In Sri Lanka, everything and everything has been affected by politics. In our parliment, there are many members above 60 and feeble. They do not leave the parliment because they get a lot of benefits and previladges being a parliamentarian. Also as the former parliamentarians. It's big money to conduct these politicians until they die one day. We loose Rs. 25 million to conduct the parliment for ONE DAY. After spending such big money, all what they do is , shout at each or and then after have a 7 star meal and go back home in VVIP level. It's a dangerous situation and its very sad. We as civilians are very helpless.
Simply, the politicians ruined our motherland.

A good analysis, However, Sri Lanka's two main foreign income sources - Tourism and Worker remittances are significantly pandemic sensitive(it lost about 9 B USD due to Covid). This is in addition to the increase in its trade deficit due to high fuel prices. Its loss can not be bearable to its external accounts. The payment of around 8 B USD debt(ISBs) was serviced during the last two years which was taken before 2019, and at the same time, it lost the access to ISB credit market. So, the occurrence of several events at once very unusually hit the reserves(7.6 B USD). Yes, then this hit the debt sustainability or aggravated its negative impact on the reserves.

British COMMONWEALTH NATION they must come forward to help this tiny island. they don't need much few billion dollars can take them out of this calamity. Srilanka must focus on developing IT, computer, hub of out sourcing, now most of the Sri Lankan educated people are out side the country, Sri Lanka is resourceful, best weather, long beaches , cool weather, hot summer, sunny through out , lot of rain and water. fishing industry. Even if both sides committed numerous war crimes eventually Mahinda's government was seen as a saviour for ending the war, from a Singahese perspective. Guess what? When you give a governor too much power: the people lose theirs. Nothing is created, everything is transformed.

It may make up just 10% of sri lanka's foreign debt but the interest rate charged by China is 8% way higher than the IMF loans which have an interest rate of 1% the reason for this is that the Chinese government allows its banks to loan money out so its not exactly government to government as a result each country who borrows loans can get a different interest rate depending on the banks and the countries financial situation( in case of the IMF its every country regardless of economic situation gets the same interest rate) , this is what is called the Chinese debt trap mechanism which specifically targets countries that are small and weak in economy to pay up this huge interest rate as a result they usually lease up a part of their territory as in a port or millitary base or even an airfield or airport to China for a long period to pay up this loan. This is almost exactly what happened in Philippines back in 1980's.. we defaulted in debt and the dictator still attempted to borrow from Singapore but failed because as Lee Kuan Yew had said "we won't see that money ever again".. In 1986 a bloodless revolution happened which was called the EDSA Revolution. Democratic countries looked up to us and lauded us for the most peaceful revolution in history. Fast forward to present, the dictator's son and the whole family is back in National politics. Wonder what was missing in that revolution? It's the shedding of blood, there's never a true revolution without shedding blood.

  • @indiradandyala9718
    @indiradandyala9718 Před 2 lety +5

The economic crisis in Sri Lanka has now engulfed the political system and the entire society.
The Rajapaksa regime was responsible for the disastrous decisions that contributed to the economic crisis. The decision to cut taxes, stop fertilizer imports for use in agriculture and grandiose investments in vanity projects were all taken by the authoritarian regime which reduced revenues, disrupted agricultural production and added to the growing debt burden. The Covid pandemic only precipitated the looming crisis with the drastic fall in foreign exchange earnings with the stoppage of tourism and remittances from Sri Lankan workers abroad.
Ever since the economic collapse, the people had suffered in the midst of severe shortages of food, fuel and medicines and galloping price-rise. The unbearable conditions of life drove people to come out into the streets to protest.Thousands participated in these peaceful protests which drew support from all sections of people including teachers, students, employees and trade unions.
The demand that president Gotabaya quit is justified as it is he who wields tremendous executive powers. He has to be held mainly accountable for the economic mess that has been created and for the authoritarian national security state that has been set up. The economic and political crises are intertwined.
The ouster of the Rajapaksa regime must be accompanied by a democratic transformation of the country’s political and economic structures. The executive presidency has to be abolished and the centralised national security state set-up dismantled. The neoliberal framework of policies has to be replaced by a pro-people path of development. The disillusionment with the Rajapaksa clan will hopefully result in the depletion of Sinhala Buddhist nationalism and lay the basis for the unity of the people with a democratic approach to linguistic and religious minorities.
The Sri Lankan government is negotiating with the IMF for a loan programme. This will entail cuts in welfare, austerity measures along with further privatisation. The mainstream political establishment in Sri Lanka sees no other way but to follow the IMF dictates. But this is not a solution to the deep structural crisis. It is necessary to set out an alternative path - one which will protect the people’s interests and also shield Sri Lanka from the depredations of finance capital. There has to be a restructuring of the political and economic systems and rally the people to fight for such a change.
