Slate Digital VMR 2.0 Review and First Look

- In this video I talk about why I use Slate Digital plugins and I give a first look at the new VMR which released this week.
There are a few reasons including the price, design, sonic capability and creative feel of the plugins.
There are audio demos in this video but it is mostly focused on showing the new VMR 2.0 (Virtual Mix Rack) and talking about my personal experience in mixing with the slate digital plugins.
I'm not affiliated with Slate Digital and I am a paying customer but I am so satisfied with the products and technical support that I really am happy to promote them :)
I use the Slate Digital plugins for at least 90% of all my mixing tasks.
The audio demos start at 9:30 but the real message of the video is before the audio demos. The workflow that the VMR promotes is what is special and valuable to me almost as much as the actual sonic capabilities of the plugins (which are also incredible)
There are few other improvements such as faster loading times but the old rack loaded in less than half a second so that was never a problem for me. - Jak na to + styl
Who else uses the slate vsts? Does anyone have any favourites from the range? :)
The custom series is definitely my go to EQ these days. Revival sound AMAZING on just about everything too :)
In The Mix I use revival and the guitar amp and de sser
I have vmr 1.0
When i get money I’ll prob use them
Edit: im buying these you said low cpu, boy do i need that
I tend to put a VCC on the Brit N setting (Neve console emulation) on most of the individual tracks, and Neve EQ.
I discovered your channel a few days ago and I'm blown away by the amount of quality content you guys put out. For a beginner like me, this is a gold mine. Thank you very much for what you do.
Hey man, I just wanted to let you guys know that after a hard couple of years trying to find my niche, your videos showing the more "technical" side of music have helped me this past month. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to help people like us get a better footing with using FL. Your advice is concise, and your explanations are beyond helpful. Please, keep making these videos! :-)
Such a great and honest review, thank you, I was considering getting the pass the last few days and you've just convinced me, the workflow for the VMR looks awesome :)
Your attitude, mate!
It inspires me the most xD
This is such a great review! Thank you very much for showing the true value of this bundle! Cheers!
Finally....
im glad you finally made a tutorial i asked for.....thanks a lot god bless you for the good job....
You are the only man i can watch and feel educated, thank you
thanks man another great video - just signed up for all access from SD!
Thanks for this man!! Very graceful
Love the slate plugins. Used on every song I do.
My workflow has been great since i followed up you guys and hit that bell notify. Dont stop sharing knowledge ❤. Any good mixing process tutorial will be great too :-)
Killez Beats Thank you! That's so good to hear
In The Mix keep working guys. Always great to see your new videos :-) bless 🙏
Just got this as a recommendation from a friend. Don't know anything about it. So thank you for the video
U are really a blessings to music producers around the world
SLATE DIGITAL IS AMAZINNNNNNNNGGGGGG... REALLY GREAT VIDEO... NAIROBI IS WATCHING
Dope vid🔥🔥 can you do a video showing how you use the bundle with your beats?
really great video!_+ thanks for posting :)
Hello, thanks for a great review! There is no way to use side-chaining in Slate plugins correct? Also: what is the track in the video? Sounds great!!
Thanks for the video! Slate Digital should hook you up. I've been on the fence about getting the Everything Bundle. But because of you guys, I'm more convinced that I should, especially since you said that it doesn't hog the CPU.
Joseph Delacruz That would be amazing! Yeah at least on my system 16 GB and a good CPU it really isn't a problem at all. It takes a few seconds to load up the VMR for the first time but after that it loads immediately and seems great on CPU
In The Mix I just wanted to let you guys know that I finally took the plunge and bought the subscription. I'm really looking forward to working with these plugins and integrating them into my workflow. I'm also gonna shout you out on Slate TV. You and, namely, this video, really were the final factor in convincing me to get it. Thanks, again! Keep up the good work!
Joseph Delacruz Thank you so much! I really hope you get on well with them and don't worry if ever there is a technical problem they will get you sorted super quick, they pride themselves on the customer service too :)
In The Mix I did my first mix for a client and it's been crazy. With a full mix with just their plugins and even with FGX on the master in Reaper (produce beats in FL, engineer in Reaper), my CPU stayed at a stable 30 percent. Thanks again, guys!
BTW, I just did the shout out of you on their channel. We'll see!
Great video & Better Audio volume i feel
They have a great vitural rack interface to access and use the plug-ins. Ease of workflow design.
Thanks for this video :)
Fantastic tutorials. Thank you! I'd like to subscribe to Slate Digital plugins. I already own many UAD plugins because I use an Apollo audio interface on Mac OS but I'm just curious to know the differences. UAD should send you an audio interface for free to test their plugins. You do great FL Studio reviews, probably the best on CZcams. It's time to buy an iMac Pro...:)
Still youre the Best - Great, Sympatic, very well explained!
I was wondering what was the "Room Mix" track for :) Nice drums, by the way :)
Could you please do a separate "vocal chops" tutorial? I know there's a million different ways, but some of the methods are just so different that I'm curious about the pros and cons. Example some just put the whole vocal in "Slicex/Slicer" and just use a pattern where they would change the velocity which would represent the pitch. Some slices up the vocals in Harmor as an example, and keep each vocal chop in a separate channel rack. When should you or should do A or B? Do you prefer a way?
you should be a super star your good i like the way your thinking
great video, i really want to buy this but im a little confused what it comes with cuz i KNOW it cant possibly have all these plugins for only $150..
what do you think about the full virtual recording studio? Mic's, Interface and all.
Is installation of all this Slate Digital stuff pretty simple or complicated..?
I love Slate. VTM -> VBC -> FG-X is a killer mastering chain.
After watching this, I really want to start using EQs that have no graphical display, so I'm using more of my ears, not my eyes. One equestion, is the VMR CPU intensive?
EDIT: Nevermind, I just came across you saying it wasn't. XD
Too bad I can only give this video one thumbs up 🙂 I like your style.
fantastic ! but dont have Gate the VMR 2,0 ? Regards from Portugal
3 Years Later , I think Slate Digital is Great !
Has the tune he's using in this video been released? love the sound
At 10:00, when he boosts the gain with the trimmer, is that internal clipping?
I am thinking of buy this service from Slate Digital. I like that fact that there is no meters to visually distract you. But I am curious do you have any cons to mention, are you still happy with it. I am really thankful there are people like you in the world that share your knowledge, very inspiring. Thanks
Arthur Heritage Thank you, yes there is one con that has cropped up. After this review, the new update has a much slower loading time. It now takes a few minutes longer to load my projects if they have 20 or more instances of VMR
how did you group the stems in the playlist
Waiting for your Mastering tutorial...So Please😊
I recently tested the FG-Stress is amazing.
I don't like the pressets. They work somehow, but you better get what you need in the rack and ignore them.
How to make the VmR smaller? I can’t see the bottom of it
Thanks a lot "In The Mix"
can someone do a video on what every plugin is and mix vocal tracks
Where can i get slate digital plugins from ?
bro, i have problem with vmr when i load up it is bigger in size ,how do i resize to fit to my screen
What about VCC channel/mixbus? Do you use them?
the vms 2.0, doe have microphone?
i had used them for a wile but i don't know why i have stoped
If the meters in the compressors or trimmers hit red, does that introduce any sort of clipping? Does it mean anything?
Andy it emulates ANALOG clipping, giving you saturation/harmonics/distortion. but its not the same as digital clipping, or clipping your DAW
What are your computer specifications? :)
Do you use ozone on masters or do you find they give a really digital sound?
Pyaro217 I use ozone and slate digital. Ozone is very transparent in my opinion but I'm not one for mastering very loud
Is the waves cla-3a or 2a worth it for £50. Seems good value but i dont feel like I get good use out of compressors when making edm because i dont know when to use them
Avii Nuo I haven't used those plugins so I can't really be the judge. I'm sure they sound fantastic, but I'd rather have 3 months of all of the slate plugins instead of 1 compressor. At the end of the day, if you can mix well with it and it makes you happy, go for the plugin!
At the moment I just use compression on everything. But I realise compression is best used to make reverb louder and to squish sounds. However I use fruity compressor on my lead busses and almost as an effect on my single leads, which I feel like doesnt have much effect apart from squashing dynamic range and doesnt really glue leads together as ive been told to use compressors for
The compressors are actually only £35 each and for £60 I can get a bundle with a bunch of basic things.
Maybe I should try Maximus first cus I keep hearing great things about it. My money would probably be better spent on a reverb, trash 2 or maybe fabfilter q2
nah im not on IG yet. I use fruity reverb 2, would you say the first is better. The main reason I want fabfilter is because for some extreme cases I run into I get quite serious phase issues with heavy distorted basses and wanted a linear phase option. Atm I have serum but am trialing spire which just sounds a millions times better but I was thinking I could use trash 2 to get the same character i feel serum missed as well as being cheaper and having more uses over spire.
how long did it take for you to learn how to use fl studio
xtreme gamer it depends how far the learning process goes, technically I never stop learning the software but I guess it took about 6 to 8 months before I felt very comfortable with the DAW and felt limited only by my own creativity, skills and abilities as an artist, producer and musician :)
My brother and I recently purchased this suite of software and have endured long load times with some slage projects mainly the virtual mix rap. Is this normal? The rig its running on is a i9 (8 core) we just upgraded it too and i dont think its a hardware problem do you have any suggestions or resources to point me in the right direction for troubleshooting?
Also your videos are a majo part of why I am still making music today. And wont ever give up on my dreams no matter what. I want to thank you for all Giving heart and spreading the word. If you ever need some advice on HVAC or repairs I am an HVAC tech and would be happy to help you out if you ever want to reach out. The knowledge you give freely, it makes you saint like. You could be keeping all your secrets and profiting big time off them but you are sharing it witj us and i sincerely appreciate it. I hope one day I will have a chance to return the favor. Thank you, and keep doing what you are doing. Pretty soon your name will be known by everyone in the music industry
Can anyone help me I've been trying to renew my subscription, but had no luck it's been 3 days now and it's begining to frustrate me
Do you need an iLok USB stick for using these Slate plugins?
Juan Carlos Ivancevich Yes, They give you an ilok when you sign up! They sent me an ilok3
Thanks for the quick answer :)
In the categories, what does 'pres" mean?
Preamp
How about the Ilok, do you really need one to buy and use the everything bundle?
98valdemar They will give you one when you sign up :)
Ah okay, cool. But I'll guess you have to have it physically before you can use the plugins. So for a guy like me, I would need to wait at least 15 days before being able to get started. Is that a correct assumption? :)
98valdemar Yes, that being said, they posted my ilok to the UK (Scottish Highlands) in 4 days but it's safe to assume it might take a week or two depending on your local postage.
In The Mix Thanks. Well, the danish post-office doesn't quite have the best reputation. Anyways, thanks for the reply. Keep up the good work with your channel. Got a lot of my production skills improved through your channel :)
how to make a double stereo wave in playlist like yours in every track you have done. ???????
Sujan Sunuwar double click on a waveform to bring up the wrapper, then right click the waveform in the box, select "multichannel waveform view"
Thank you brother. And lots of Love for In The Mix from Nepal.
"I like the wood"
slate digital 2.0 free?? please link
Start with spacebar? 😜
Louis Jans I tried pressing the play button on my screen but it doesn't seem to work!
Try pressing harder, maybe it's just stuck. Happens some times, just ask Steven 😄
Hey how much is it on whole
Rapid Spectre you are not tied into buying it, you simply pay per month and are not tied into it. It's not a rent to own, it's just regular pay per month. You can buy the plugins separate but they are with thousands
In The Mix wow that's a lot
How can I get ur voice to be my GPS?
Is this an advertisement??
Thang Haolai It's not a sponsored advert, when i make adverts I always write in the description to keep it legal :) I'm just sharing the plugins that I use because so many people have been asking.
Thank for the reply n clarification..
Do u use only these reverb plugins or hardwares too?
Thang Haolai I only use software reverb. I also use stock reverbs too :)
Ok,Thank you so much 👍👍👍
Did Slate pay you for this?
C|RE He said he’s not affiliated with them.
How to download it for free???Could u share a link????
Smores Music try to save up and support the people who make these wonderful tools :) it's so much more rewarding when you buy them 🎵
In The Mix I think you are right.Okay I will try to buy it.Btw thanks.....😊😊😊
Subscription scheme sound horrible to me. Basically your projects will load up correctly as long as you pay the rent. Once you decide to stop using their products, all plugins stop working and your projects get screwed. It's a trap.
Well if you bounce the mixes...
@@trollingisasport
Sure, but the idea that you can't go back to your older projects with fresh knowledge and ideas unless you pay to Slate Digital feels like you're not solely owner of your projects. Basically, you need to pay royalties to the rights (plugins) owner just to be able to make some changes to your own work.
It's a nasty blackmail business scheme against the consumer.
Pls give me heart
kizko 💕 Gave ya two bud 😉
I just hate the fact that you NEED to buy a 50$ ilok USB to use the vmr if you buy it without the All access pass
gift me your old monitor plz.😓
wear some glasses when u make a video next time, got lost in your dreamy eyes couldn't even concentrate what you were saying.
