- House sparrow vs tree sparrow! House sparrow (Passer domesticus) and eurasian tree sparrow (Passer montanus) - are two birds from the sparrow family (Passeridae). For experienced ornithologists they are completely different,: however, for beginner bird watchers - they are almost the same. They are species that are easy to learn to distinguish, and the diagnostic features are quite clearly visible. Once we master it, the ability to distinguish a house sparrow from a eurasian tree sparrow will give us a lot of satisfaction. Remembering the differences between a house sparrow and a tree sparrow is not difficult. It is worth consolidating this knowledge on a regular basis by looking for birds in the field. And since these species are quite common, there should be many opportunities to train this skill. Marking these two birds is easy and it is worth starting your adventure with ornithology from such easy species.

In contrast, I follow a lot of Japanese Sparrow Channels that almost exclusively film the tree sparrows. At first, I was a bit stumped. But after a while, I also began to understand their similarities and differences from house sparrows. The sound distinction observation is excellent! Very helpful. Thanks!

Great video. We have hundreds of sparrows in our yard and now after watching this video, I have realised that we have mixture of the two species living together. Although we could distinguish between them, we always thought that these two species were the same. We thought the house sparrows as the elder sparrows and the tree sparrows as their children. Thanks a lot for providing such a great information.
