As a metalhead it always makes me happy to see people actually give heavy music a chance. So many people get scared by metal and think that we’re evil people and that all metal is just screaming. 99% of metalheads are super awesome and nice people. Thanks to Nu Metal bands like Korn, a lot of hip hop fans and rap fans started getting into metal.

I envy people who actually find a genre. There's about 30 some genres in my playlists and I don't relate to any of them completely
@@tarimkoysever yeah that's where I am now cuz I don't think I'll find any 1 genre at this point and I stopped caring
They might just be on one genre they really like for a really long time. Like I'm a complete metalhead, but I used to geniunely like classical music. It wasn't that classical was bad, it just wasn't my favorite. So keep looking for that perfect one!
@@IanLMusic Metal is my perfect genre, it fits every mood I'm in and I RARELY get tired of it, but I still like other genres too. Metal is definitely my most listened to, but not nearly the only one. Just because I like it the most doesn't mean I'll stop listening to everything else
yeah that's how comfort zones work
As a white boy who's brain processes rock music as default music in which all other forms of music are just weird variations of rock music, it's really fun to hear the perspective of someone not too familiar with it getting into it. Like when you described discovering punk, man that was cool. Or how you described Nirvana as having 'early 2000s Disney channel vibes' when in reality a lot the disney channel in the early 2000s had Nirvana vibes cuz Nirvana came first. Good video.

One of my favorite things about rock is not only the beautiful use of drums, guitar, and bass (also the more organic sound to it compared to a lot of the digitally produced songs today), but also the many sub-genres inside of it. Just to name a few of my favorite genres, you have punk, metal, emo, and shoegaze. While these may seem like broad and undescriptive terms, there are actually many different sub-genres in these genres of rock, such as pop punk, ska punk, post-punk, horror punk, thrash metal, heavy metal, nu-metal, alternative metal, midwest emo, emo pop, and emo rap. To add even more to the diverse genre of rock, there are also combinations of different genres to create a new and unique genre, such as grunge in the early 90s (a combination of punk, metal, and alternative rock). While I have mentioned a great deal of genres already, this is only the tip of iceberg, as there are many many more genres that are either mainstream or underground. This is why I love rock music so much, as there is a sound for everybody, no matter how different your music tastes are. Another thing I really enjoy about this is the experience of being able to explore different sub-genres and possibly find your favorite band or genre. Lastly, I think that the diverse nature of rock music also allows me to never tire of it, as I could always switch sub-genres if I'm getting tired of the band or song I'm listening to.
P.S. some bands I recommend based off of the bands you mentioned in the video would be Title Fight, Alice in Chains, Sunny Day Real Estate, Soundgarden, and the Linkin Park, give them a listen if you want!
As a Metalhead, this is actually amazing. I love when new people discover this genre of music. Also, I love the intro. The post solo riff in Master Of Puppets in criminally underrated. I suggest listening to Morbid Angel if you want to get into some old school metal! Much love man.
The first time I heard that MoP riff I was a little blown away. On the surface, its pretty simple (just running up and down the minor scale) but it sounds so damn good.
I too am a metalhead, and I really like the more modern stuff as well as the old stuff (Periphery, After the Burial, Slaughter to Prevail, Meshuggah) and get so happy when someone starts even bopping their head slightly to metal. Im not the biggest fan of rap, but this guy already earned my respect.
I hate to be that guy, but I don't think there's any part of Master Of Puppets that's underrated. Not saying it's not good, but it's not underrated.

Literally just found your channel!! I grew up listening to rock. Descendants and Black Flag with my dad, and Pearl Jam and Nirvana with my mom. I’m always happy to see more people begin to love rock and genre hop!! Keep discovering!!
I've been playing guitar consistently for 4 years and the inverse happened to me. Wherein I recently got into rap and grime lately after strictly listening to instrumental guitar genres, from rock to djent to jazz rock fusion. Its such a great feeling to gain an appreciation and liking for a genre you never really bothered listening to before.
It's not that I found instrumental guitar boring, its just fatiguing to listen to when you just want to relax. They're great when I want to get inspired to play or learn new ways to approach the instrument, but after such a long time, it felt like a job; repetitively having to keep a part of my brain on to analyze what I'm listening to.
I found comfort in rap as the musical elements are simpler. The intervals are more digestable and sound less cacophonic. Great when I just want to vibe around.
Happy for you for learning guitar, its a great instrument and I hope you keep up at it!
P.s. Just watched you yesterday and your video "YEAT fans be like" came up on my recommended. It was funny and entertaining as Yeat is my favourite rap artist at the moment lmao

I rly appreciate that you gave rock a shot, I went down the same road and now I pretty much only listen to death metal and thrash metal. deftones, decendents, and black flag spotted, NUERONS ACTIVATE!!!
nah fr tho its cool that u gave a different genre a chance its always fun to listen to new music, im always lookin for new music, and my longest playlist has a wide range of bands going from nu metal like korn, system of a down, limp bizkit, to grunge like mudhoney, soundgarden and melvins, all the way to punk like the dickies, the rezillos, the zeros, its so fun to have a wide genre of music taste. its like russian roulette for your ears :3!!
i know im like 6 months late but im glad to see someone open minded to new genres especially punk stuff i get a lil like dissapointed when i hear someone say "yeah i listen to punk" then name like the most no punk band ever and too see you bring up descendants is actually cool for me to see also if you like slow but also aggressive songs id recommend something like doom or stoner metal i personally like
Tree of Woe by acid mammoth
Reefer Sutherland by Bongripper
and if you like that but want a little more faster and aggressive sound id recommend sludge metal
a good band to represent this is acid bath almost if not all their songs are bangers
heres some recommendations:
Cassie Eats Cockroaches
Tranquilized
Paegen Love Song
I've been exploring the heavy metal genre a lot more recently because rap these days doesn't seem to be as aggressive as it once was. Needless to say, I've been enjoying metal bands like Spite and Kublai Khan for the last few months and much more satisfied with metal when it comes making gym playlists 💪
Great video. I love the Deftones.
Something else I want to mention is that some artists can have a dramatically different sound than others that are part of the same genre.
Danny Brown (one of my favorite rappers) has a much different sound from someone like Kendrick Lamar (and both have very diverse discographies in their own right. Danny's new colab with JPEGMAFIA sounds INSANE, after all.).
It's definitely important to be open-minded with music.
YESS exactly, like my music taste goes from jazz to rock to alt to rap. Deftones is the BeST
Same thing with rock
FR I'd be down to hear about some update down the line after you've dove deeper into rock/punk/metal
listening to a bunch of street punk now. might make a video idk

@@JawbreakerJuice thanks dude ✌️
i listen to rock music and bro every album and aritst you were talking about made me so happy and like excited to hear that someone i watch likes the music i like lol
I love descendents so much! Their music actually changed my life bro it’s so energetic
6:29 had me weak
Recently I’ve started a CD collection and so far I have Deftones, Metallica, Ramones, Nirvana, Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam.
Dunno who you are dude, but that was great! I had a similar journey in my youth, but rock to rap. My suburban middle class white kid mind was blown away by Ice-T’s “original gangster” album. I can still spit every word
8:11 that riff was fire 🔥🔥
glad that someone finally finds Descendents again. As someone who loves punk rock i'm glad you found your way to one of the greatest bands that the genre has to offer
I also started with playing rocksmith on bass and it took me by suprise to see you play it because its an awsome game to learn songs
So dope that you got into rock, punk, and metal! Also, Blue Album is one of the best alt rock albums ever :)
7:06 I think people are more annoyed by the part of those people not even listening to the band on their shirt. Like imagine walking up to someone who wears a deaftones shirt and ask them what their favourite song is and they're just like: "wtf r u talking about?"
(This is a bit more extreme example) but it’s like wearing a crip mask, then a blood walks up to you, punches you, then you say “wait I just like the shirt I’m not him the gang!”
4:17 i literally cant escape it
Funny enough, I’m going through the same thing too. Kinda expanding into genres other than Hip Hop. Got really into punk like Green Day, & some old stuff like the Beatles. Pretty tip of the iceberg stuff for now, but I’m looking to dig deeper into the genre
tell me what genres of rock you like and i can give you somerecs.
dam u get some bangers
1:01 I was in awe when you mentioned my favorite band just now-
I just discovered Deftones 2 - 3 days ago and it's beautiful
7:26 naw that hurt me 😢
Same😢
thats so awesome, i love hearing about people expanding their musical taste.
theres so much fucking amazing unique interesting music out there with so many different resonating cultures behind them.
it's funny i used to only listen to dubstep as a 12 year old and then got into hiphop but my whole life had a p big net when it came to music
Man, you are so funny 😂😂😂 subbed for sure
