Matariki Night Lights Steam Train with 'Tāiki the Steam Engine'

The Glenbrook Vintage Railway and the local Iwi of Ngāti Te Ata in Waiuku teamed up to organise the first Matariki Night Lights Steam Train, in conjunction with the Matariki Night Festival on Saturday 26 June 2021.
Tāiki Te Tirema (Tāiki the Steam Engine - Ww 480) was unveiled and hauled shuttles from Victoria Avenue - Pukeoware and return for the 1,800+ passengers that came to ride the sold out trains.
This event was a stepping stone for what's to come in future years with the new Matariki Public Holiday. For details on future events check out www.gvr.org.nz
