  • Welcome to More Christ, where we seek to bring some of the world's most interesting and insightful guests to discuss life's central and abiding questions.
In this fifty fourth episode in a series of discussions, I'm joined by Dr. Bernard McGinn. Bernard is an American Roman Catholic theologian, religious historian, and scholar of spirituality. A specialist in Medieval mysticism, McGinn is widely regarded as the preeminent scholar of mysticism in the Western Christian tradition. He is best known for his comprehensive series on mysticism, The Presence of God. According to McGinn, "Even for people who may not have any religious commitment of their own, a study of the great mystics can reveal something about human creativity and genius."

Dr. McGinn is an inspiration. A decade or so ago he delivered a superb lecture about Meister Eckhart at the University of New Mexico. His broad learning and intellect inspired me and, I think, many others to explore the story of Christian mysticism. It opened my eyes.

If you ever want to get back to discussing Christian mysticism, I very highly recommend the work of Carl McColman.

Wonderful coverage. Can you ask Dr McGinn to consider Helen Waddell since she is over looked.

Can someone cite the French priest that goes to India that is mentioned at the end of his video?

Swami Abhishiktananda (Henri Le Saux) was a French Benedictine monk who went to India to establish a Indian Christian monasticism.
Father Bede Griffiths did something similar as a British Benedictine monk, who moved to India to help establish a Christian ashram movement.
