  • "Time for some action!" Philadelphia immortal and first-ballot Hall of Famer Cash Money (Jerome Hewlett), the 1987 New Music Seminar and 1988 DMC World Champion, gets busy at the historic '99 DMC American Final in San Francisco, rocking the party after the main competition with classic routines such as "Rock the Bells" and "Nobody Beats the Biz."

swadetrackz well hes been djing for well over 30 years. in 86 cheese layed out the blueprint for turntablism. but cash money in 88 really paved the way for what true turntablism would become. no one did it quite like him before him. im pretty sure you already know this. the man has payed his dues. he moved on. im sure he still djs at the crib for fun. but just for that. the legend will allways be rememberd.

From Mr. Hewlett's Facebook, November 7: "IT'S OFFICIAL I'M OUT OF THE GAME !! Thank you guys for all of the support through these many years..I hope I gave you guys a lifetime of enjoyment on those turntables...I have another calling in life that I must seek and this music business has become too negative for me....The music is fun but dealing with these agents & promoters is overbearing for me (personally).I have no regrets as I have had one hell of a career...This is a soul searching decision that this business is just not healthy for me...I will be deleting my Facebook pages but will keep my website & youtube channel....I wish you all the best and much prosperity !!! I will leave this page up for a week because I have people that bought merchandise and I don't want to look dodgy until they receive there goods....Keep It Green Ya'll and I humbly say Thank You !!"

He was a true pioneer, and led the way for many years. A proper trailblaser - his winning set at the DMCs in '88 is still so exciting to watch now as noone had ever done it like that before. And he definitely has a unique style. However, the artform progressed into something else that Cash never really caught up with. Compare this set to what else was going on at the time and it's really elementary. And that's the unfortunate truth - he probably wasn't getting the gigs he really wanted and was playing at bad venues, with bad promoters etc, and he'd probably had enough.

I went first, you have to take that into consideration, both were flawless, but Spik won it for me. Still to this day top 10 routine. Hall of fame set.
