Im Ghanaian. I remember my brother jubilating and hugging my neck, suffocating me when the kick was awarded. Told him to keep calm till its scored and lo and behold, Gyan blew it. My heart sank. After the shoot outs, It was the quietest Accra has ever been to me. Not even a car horn, a voice. Everyone was either indoors watching or gathered around a public tv/screen, all stunned to silence. Unforgettable match.

North America was on south America side , a Salvadorian living in USA cheering all of that Americans teams , also cheering for Uruguay in that match , pure adrenaline , sobbing until that very end , a roller coaster of emotions , when Ghana got that penalty kick i thought if Ghana wins this defeat will hurt because as a spectator i was giving my everything for America and Uruguay in that game , went he miss that penalty it was miracle for me Uruguay was still alive . That penaltys and that game were not for weak Cardiac person's . My nickname was loco 😜 and my favorite # is 13 , when loco Abreu won that game it was pure extacy , that pinnacle of that greatest Quarter final match i have ever seen . Since 1930 Eufa and Conmebol have been always on that top 2 best Continents on that world cup , If Ghana would had won it that order of Dual power would had been broken for that first time in fifa History it would have been 1. Not enough credit is given to Gyan for starting off the shootout after having just missed that big penalty and blasting in an absolute perfect high corner penalty. Takes a lot of heart to try that kind of shot after having just missed.

It's taking too much risk if you ask me, his kick in the shooutout was also unnecessarily high, that tendency of him is actually what made him miss the penalty during the game.
I was 11 years old in a small Kenyan town and was allowed to stay up late to watch this match, cried like a baby.
This match needs to be commemorated in a golden box-set. It's 1 of the greatest matches in the history of football. The story is incredible: An up-an-coming football nation with the hopes of a continent (Ghana) vs. the return of a legendary football nation with 100+ years of iconic history (Uruguay). A masterpiece.

It literally reversed the fate of Suarez (who instantly went on to be one of the best players in the world, and now the generation, ...and Gyan (who immediately went on to a mediocre season in the EPL and then to the middle east). And Ghana's and Uruguay's too funny enough.

One of the most emotonial football game's i've ever seen. Would've been awesome to see Ghana going to the semi finals. Just to think that whole Africa was going trough. One of the most dramatic soccer matches! I have ever seen, I still remember as if this happened yesterday! The handball, the red card for Suarez, the crying, the penalties! I was rooting for the underdog and truly wanted Ghana to advanced to the top four, but the way Uruguay fought to the very last minute was pure example of how you never give up! In my opinion, this was one of the greatest football matches ever played. Both teams fought tooth and nail from the first to the last minute. No shortage of great goals, drama, controversy, and historic moments.
As a Uruguayan, I think Suarez did the right thing, but I ask all those who claim he cheated, if you were in his position would you not do the same thing? Is that not part of loving your country? Was he not penalized accordingly? Ghana didn't deserve to win any more than Uruguay did.

As Ghanaian the only way I can forget this match is when Ghana revenge to beat Uruguay 5 - 1 , 5 -0, 4 - 0, 3 - 0 at Qatar 2022 world cup. I can't wait when Ghana will win the world cup.

2018 and Ghana couldn't make it to the world cup this year, it's so sad. The coincidence is that Ghana didnt qualify for the world cup because of Egypt. And Egypt lost to Uruguay in thier first game in the world cup.
This is one of the best football matches I’ve ever seen in my whole life. I’m Brazilian and it doesn’t hurt me at all. And I don’t even like Uruguay. But that was furlan’s competition. Suarez saved Uruguay. Imagine putting your hand on the ball in the last second, I’ll bet he didn’t even think about it, he just did it like a reflex, then he’s crying leaving the pitch when the Ghana player missed the winning goal. So many emotions I can’t even put it into words. He exchanged the goal for a red card and a penalty and it was worth it. Ghana didn’t have the guts to finish Uruguay off, that’s football. Half technique and physical half emotional balance. And Ghana lost.
I understand the pain for the Ghanan people but that was football. What an impressive match, I’ll always remember this day.

I'm a Ghanaian and this match was one of our matches in football History we can't forget about it. I cried for a week. It was really heartbreaking that that such a huge sorrow for Ghanaians. That time we were hoping to represent AFRICA but we couldn't make it.
To anyone saying Uruguay cheated, you are highly mistaken. Suarez handballed it but justice was served. Ghana was given a penalty and a red card for Suarez. The players from Ghana celebrated and were happy with the ref's decision. As far as Suarez being a cheater, I'm sure most people would do the same in his position.
yeah i guess. if he they hadnt got a penalty then it would be cheating but they got it then they lost it, so its Ghana's fault.

A penalty and a red card is not justice for a goal that would have absolutely won the game. That header was 100% going in, a penalty is not 100%, as you saw. It's still cheating, whether or not he got sent off or not.
I agree that it's legit, but most people feel that Suarez pulled a dick move(which he did)
