- Early this February I was invited along to accompany my good Italian buddy and co host photographer, Luigi Nespeca, on one of his day workshops here in Abruzzo Italy. There is no other photographer in Italy that knows this area as well as he does, and it was a great opportunity for me to check out a new area for future workshops I head in this rugged region of Italy. Although we were set to photograph on location the ice that should set over the lake, on this day it just didn’t happen. Maybe the water below was just too warm due to a late winter start this year. Just the same conditions paid off for some interesting photography and video to share for you guys on CZcams.
Here in this video I share with you some of my composition techniques, and what to do when light isn't good and you are forced to make the best out of a mad situation.
I hope you enjoy the content and find it useful. Don't forget to subscribe to my channel if you already haven't, like the video, click the notifications button for my next video and I would love to see your comments here on the video. It all helps keep the photography community alive.
This June I will be heading another workshop in Abruzzo together with Paul Thomson and co host Luigi Nespeca. If your interested in coming along with us click the link below.

Great Video and shots Matt. Congratulations and please come back again to our fantastic Motherland: Abruzzo!! L.
I go regularly. It’s an amazing place
Very cool video! I surely know the spot by watching the landscape with fresh eyes always offers new ideas!!
Great shot my friend, the first one of the ice is stellar and the one of the dogs is the best I've ever seen about the symbols of this land: the Mountains, the herding, the snow, the hard life. Great job! ciao
Thanks a million Luigi and thanks as always for the great company
Mate what a location, awesome shots brother
Snow! Real snow? Wow. I got like two days of snow this year. In middle of Europe. Two days. Man, how I envy you.
Great photos, I liked those abstract ones even if I am not much into art photography. They were interesting in their own way.
Yeh we had a great dumping here in italy about 3 weeks ago. It was a very late winter. Glad you liked the abstracts. They were purely an example to show what you can do when the landscape and light doesn’t inspire. There are always possibilities to find hidden treasures
A total enjoyment! The coffee stop was super! The reason we shoot, no! Me. Exercise. If there's good images, all the better. Bravo. Glad to see Pentax. I use film in mine. Maybe think about anolder one. Lots of Pentax Lenses..
Long live pentax!
Good to see you again Matt on YT. I really enjoyed this little amble with you, into the snow pictures not bad either :)
Cheers mate. Glad I could entertain you for a few minutes!
Great tips! Solid advice.
Thanks a lot
I especially liked those close-up shots. And the dogs are so adorable.
(I wish you could upload stuff more often. 😁😉)
I am glad you like the close ups. They were are great find. This type of photography is great fun and full of possibility especially in bad light as a back up like it was on this day
Hi Matt, I really enjoy your videos and all the other content that you provide to us (Instagram, Facebook and personal website (gold mine :))). We should appreciate more your insightful advice, micro-details about your technique and the ideas behind all those great photos. That should be respected. Those macros with 70-200 were fantastic! Especially the first one, definitely the wallpaper cover :)
I hope you will find the inspiration and time to do more content like this in the future. Again, I wish you the best!
That’s really emotional to here those words. The inspiration to produce content for viewers and for my personal work is always there. Video does however take a lot of time and effort to produce, and with such a saturated media ones work is hard to be appreciated. However comments like yours and others I have received recently does however give me the urge to produce more video for you
Thanks for your precious time
Good to see you doing a video, mate. Intimates were great. Love to see them processed sometime. Cheers.
Thanks for taking the time to watch. Yes the intimates were quite nice considering it was a bad day
Nice video and shots Matt. Keep up the good work!
This looks like a great shooting location. You have captured some wonderful images. I think that it's quite nice to shoot in a group, usually you are the only one with a Pentax.
Hahahha. Not always. On my abruzzo workshops we have pentaxians!
Lovely Matt, big contrast in weather, you Snow , Central Queensland Hot, Hot ,Hot, Beautiful scenery, Enjoyed your episode Cheers Bevan Sapphire Central Queensland 🤠❤️🦘🦘🇦🇺
Certainly seems hard to believe. It’s bloody freezing here!!!!
looks like a great place for panos
It’s certainly is. That’s why I do workshops there. Next one coming up in May 2024
Loved the video Matt, I've said it before and I'll say it again, your videos are brilliant and I always look forward to them, keep them coming. Those ice images with the 200mm were beautiful, amazing detail too. I always listen to what you have to say on the Landscape Photography Vlogcast, hopefully you might be able to get the actor Bill Ward landscape and ICM Pentaxian photographer on the vlogcast one day. Have a great week Matt and thanks for another fantastic video 👏
That’s really comforting to know that the videos are useful to you. I am so pleased. Glad you enjoy the podcast too. Much appreciated listener!!! Yes I’ve had a chat with Bill on many occasions. He is very keen to come on. We will have to get around to that very shortly
@@MattBishopPhotography Thanks so much for your reply Matt, you really are a top bloke 👍
@@MattBishopPhotography Great to see you again Matt, thanks for the video. I hope you manage to get Bill Ward on your vlogcast, I've met him a couple of times and he's always great to listen to. His ICM work is amazing as well!
@@philpayne5156 cheers Phil. Yes I have spoken to him on numerous occasions about getting on the podcast. I must contact him again about it
The scenery is just incredible! I need to travel way far for anything not even close to that lol. Great images and video mate! 👍🏽
I am sure you’ve got beautiful nature just up the road. Sometimes we need help to see. However yeh, it’s a great spot. Thanks for watching
I like that monochrome camera comment. Maybe that rumoured monochrome K3 might come sooner than we think 😉
Nice to see you were paying attention to details
@@MattBishopPhotography my eyes lit up as soon as you mentioned it !
@@harryv2297 the rumor is there? It’s been a while since we’ve heard any more updates about it but certainly a monochrome would be an interesting camera to shoot with. Let’s hope the rumors come true
@@MattBishopPhotography crossing my fingers Matt!
Hi Matt congratulations. You should also come to the Marche to take landscape photographs. Greetings, Flavio from Ancona.
Hi there. I have never been to Le Marche, but intend to visit soon. Especially the coast there looks beautiful
I know you shoot with a Pentax k1 and the Pentax k-3 Mark 3 and the monochrome
I shoot with the Pentax K-70
So my question is
How do you set the camera up
So I can use a live view and move the focusing with the 4 arrow keys
I have asked this question before
To other people who use Pentax camera such as mine and yours and none of them can give me a straight
I need to be able to see the focus spot square in live view exactly the same as you were able to do I am completely unable to see through the view finder
In camera settings go into live view and you can set the settings in all from there
where is Abruzzo?
Abruzzo is in italy
Italy?
