In this weeks episode we look at the stamps of South Africa, taking a special look at the stamps inscribed in English and Afrikaans alternately. We also look at the War effort stamps and the bantams and explore the many different watermark varieties of the first Republic sets.
Hi Pete. Lovely intro into SA stamps. This is one of my collecting areas, so I enjoyed your description of the challenges faced in identifying the pictorial definitives. Thanks again. Take care.
Thanks for your comments. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Again a wonderful video to introduce South African stamps! I tried to collect the different shades and varieties of the definitive issues (in mint condition) but this was quite a challenge. The watermarks and the phosphor varieties of the definitive set from the 1960's are sometimes difficult to identify correctly and the SG catalogue is an essential to do so. Thanks for your video and I wish you the best for the year 2024!
Thank you for your kind comments, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Good luck with your collecting.
Well done presentation! I really appreciate the quality of video and information you share. Happy New Year!
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video! South Africa is my beloved homeland, and it is one of the first countries I put on my list to collect. I now sit in New Zealand, and it might not be so easy to start a South African collection, which I have to do from scratch, in comparison to being there. I REALLY enjoyed the video and learned a lot, even though many of the stamps, especially those of the 60s and 70s are familiar to me. I also would like to wish you a wonderful 2024, filled with prosperity and happiness and many interesting stamps and moments with stamps! 🙂
Thank you for your kind comments, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Good luck with your collecting.
We just got back to NZ from South Africa with a huge stamp collection: RSA/SWA/Venda/Transkei/Ciskei and Bophuthatswana. It is more or less an inheritance, we are not too sure what to do with this collection.
Very nice ❤ ❤ ❤
I am from Iraq
Thanks for the video. I am still busy separating and categorising my SA union stamps. Quite a challenge with the four printings and the colour variations within each printing. Just a quick note regarding the pronunciation of the 'Suid' in Suid Afrika, easiest to remember that 'Suid' rhymes with the English words 'mate' or 'rate' - essentially 'Sate Afrika'.
Thanks, I knew my pronunciation was wrong but wasn't sure how it should sound. Glad you enjoyed the video and have fun sorting out your collection.
Hello!
Great informative video indeed.
I came across a few videos stating a few stamps of Suid Afrika with horizontal Springboek water mark has good value
Pls reply which stamps they could be.
Thanks for your comments. They are probably on stamps where the normal watermark is upright. I don't have my catalogue with me at the moment to give you any examples.
😂 morning. I have lots an lots of RSA stamps.need help.ready to sell all..❤
It really depends on what you have. As I've said in my video, the older stuff needs to be in pairs, the more modern stuff doesn't have huge value individually but maybe worth selling as a collection.
