    Great Video! Most helpful. Filmhub resolution upload. I have an older doc that is 1080. Hub's FAQs section says if undecided as to go with 1080 or 4K, Go 4K! Although, the asset requirement page indicates not to upscale or downscale the original resolution. Upscale with AI? Upscale with PPro? Or leave it be and as is. Thoughts?

    • @alexsrednoselac
      @alexsrednoselac  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Personally I would keep it as 1080. That 4K comment likely refers to stuff shot in 4K and you are considering downscaling to 1080p. I personally submitted my film in 1080.

    Nice informative video Alex. I am in the midst of producing my documentary some of my material I will have to rely on for fair use as it is short news items that relate to my investigations, ie from web and radio news. Is there going to be major issues with Filmhub as this is what is done alot for documentaries?

    • @alexsrednoselac
      @alexsrednoselac  Před rokem

      Thanks a lot! I can’t tell you 100% as it’s not something I’m super familiar with. I would recommend continuing educating yourself not only on fair use, but how to go about something that’s not considered fair use. I’m sure there’s tons of content of documentary filmmakers who touch on the subject. As crazy as this sounds, I was doing a lot of my research for my film back in 2018/2019 where there still wasn’t a crazy amount of info. However, I referred a ton to these lawyers I’m linking below. They wrote a book on various legalities when it comes to filmmaking. This video in particular is about the use of logos in film. I counted like 500 something logos that appear in my film, and all of them were considered fair use. Obviously, I don’t recommend relying on a book or CZcams video for legal questions 100%, but it’s a good starting point. I would also recommend maybe finding a lawyer who can tell you if your clips would be considered fair use. I knew someone that worked at a big firm, pitched what I was doing, and they gave me a deep discount to check all my legal stuff. I spent around 2500. It’s just one option. Wanted to mention as a case of “you never know unless you ask.”

      It’s just going to depend on the length. You can’t have one in the first or last 5 minutes and then you are allowed to have one every 8-12 minutes. You want to find natural breaking points so you not be disruptive. A 90 minute feature for example could have 10-15.

    Yes, more info on this music cue sheet please. Also, I have done a handful of short films as a (mostly) one man band-meaning, I do pretty much everything except act. So everybody on screen requires a release?
    Does it matter is the films are already on Vimeo or CZcams or whatever?
    Lastly- an old friend of mine did the score for my last short. And for the end creds, I got permission to use a song from any band on this guy’s underground label (it’s mostly hardcore punk/grindcore bands). This was via Facebook. How the hell does that translate to the legal paperwork required by FilmHub?

    • @alexsrednoselac

My title has a "delivered" status next to it and it's delivered to Amazon...I was wondering based on your experience, does this mean Amazon has accepted it and it will go live on the platform or are they just reviewing it? Also, based on your experience how many weeks or months did it take for you to see other channels picking your project up? Very new to self distribution so any advice would be greatly helpful. Thanks so much!

    • @alexsrednoselac
      @alexsrednoselac  Před rokem

      Thanks Shaun! Once it's been Delivered you should be all good. It might still take a couple weeks to get going. Delivered is the final stage before it goes live. You're basically just waiting for it to show up on the platform. In my experience, it can still take 1-3 weeks. I've been on delivered for Apple TV for about a week now and it's still not shown up there. However, once I was delivered on Vudu (also recent) it showed up pretty quick. It seems like the smaller platforms usuall y go quicker than the larger ones. If I recall, it took 3 weeks to get up on Tubi. I know because I sat there and checked it everyday until it went live lol. I'm not 100% sure of the entire procedure, but once you get to selected you should be good. I had Hoopla show up as "Declined" for me, but I don't ever recall seeing any other status. There was a period where I wasn't checking it frequently, so I could be wrong. But I haven't had a platform decline me once I was on the Delivered status.

      @sw6041 Před rokem +1

      @@alexsrednoselac Thanks so much for your reply. Fingers crossed my project will go live soon on Amazon. Also, from your experience, how long did it take for other channels to start picking up your project? I guess this all depends on the channel, but FilmHub usually consistently markets projects correct?

    • @alexsrednoselac
      @alexsrednoselac  Před rokem +1

      Before the chapter breaks it was every once in awhile. Even if it was frequent it wasn’t anything worth while. After I added chapter breaks, it’s been every few months. I noticed it comes in waves too. Once I got on Tubi it was pretty slow. But recently in the last two months I got Vudu, Apple TV, TCL, and Cinedigm. So there’s period where I won’t see much and then four or five will come at once.

    Thanks this was very helpful. Re chapter breaks, when you say "maybe don't put chapter breaks in your actual movie, but put them on filmhub", what exactly do you mean ? How do you do this ? Also, do different platforms have different demands (for instance, one might ask for a break every 8-10 mins, but another asks for a break only every 15 mins) ? Or will putting a break every 8-10 mins work for everyone ? Thanks :)

      It’s entirely possible, but Filmhub just has a general recommendation. I think the only major platform they don’t serve is Netflix. I’m currently on Tubi and Vudu’s AVOD and I didn’t have to make accommodations to the platform.

      I did. Filmhub is non exclusive so there are not limitations on where you can show your film. As far as the images, it's hard to say. You run a risk not having a written clearance or license. Thank you, Alex! This is brilliant!
    I'm considering Filmhub, since as I am also a musician I am familiar with similar online distributors for music (cdbaby, distrokid etc), and the concept is pretty much the same.
    I've just read through the whole contract and I'm admittedly troubled by article 3, which I suppose means that they may start charging for some service of theirs that we are already using, or can change their charges at any time -- have you had any such experience? ("Paid Services. Certain aspects of the Services (including any Channels owned by Filmhub or one of its affiliates) may be provided for fees and other charges, which may be on an a la carte, subscription, or other basis. Filmhub may add new Services or features of the Services for additional fees and charges or add or change fees and charges for existing Services, at any time in its sole discretion.").
    I'm also a bit concerned about the Bankruptcy article, because, if I understand correctly, it states that in case of Filmhub going bankrupt, they can actually keep the license and also make derivative products from our material. I'm not a lawyer, but this is what I understood from this:
    "In the event of your bankruptcy, you and Filmhub acknowledge and agree that the licensed rights to Your Content hereunder are fundamentally in the nature of “intellectual property” as defined in Title 11 of the United States Code entitled “Bankruptcy,” as now or hereafter in effect, or any successor statute (“Bankruptcy Code”); that Filmhub’s continued enjoyment of all licensed rights is fundamental to the basic license hereunder; and therefore all licensed rights should be deemed intellectual property subject to Filmhub’s election under Section 365(n)(1)(B) of the Bankruptcy Code. You and Filmhub agree that the definition of “intellectual property” in Title 11 of the United States Code also includes trademarks and service marks, as trademarks and service marks are inextricably linked to the other intellectual property to which rights are granted to Filmhub under this Agreement. You and Filmhub agree that upon any election by Filmhub pursuant to Section 365(n)(1)(B) of the Bankruptcy Code, Filmhub will be entitled to, on its own or through employees, contractors, agents or otherwise, upgrade, modify and develop derivative works based upon the rights licensed hereunder. In the event of Filmhub’s Bankruptcy, you agree that, notwithstanding Section 365(c)(1) of the United States Bankruptcy Code, Filmhub may assume this Agreement and may assign this Agreement."
    Any thoughts on this? Sorry for the long message!

      @alexsrednoselac  Před rokem +1

      Thank you for the kind words! And I’ve never read this stuff closely enough, so I appreciate you bringing it up. I never been directly charged for anything. The only time they charged me for something was for adding ad breaks to the movie like I mentioned in the video. However, they charged me on the back end instead of a fee upfront. Could be related to that? If they started charging up front fees I would have to take that into consideration compared to what I’m making. They are still claiming the license is non-exclusive. As for the bankruptcy, I think this is probably going to be the same situation with any platform like this. We can’t win overall if shit hits the fan. So it’s all a calculated risk. I’ve actually already been victim to this. I had a deal with a theater chain to play this movie, they went bankrupt, and I lost all the revenue. The odds are always against us when we try to make money from our material.

      @@alexsrednoselac I'm so sorry to hear about your negative experience, Alex, and thanks again for all the help. I've contacted them regarding this and they said that the charges would be for services that they offer (e.g. captions etc) and that we can terminate the contract at any time without any penalty and our material will be removed from the platforms once we do so. So I guess one way around it would be to keep being informed about how things are going for them, and if something doesn't look good, we could withdraw our material before they go bankrupt. Yes, the odds are against us, whatever we choose to do; at least Filmhub seems more transparent than others.
