Welcome to the twenty-sixth video in my "'Romeo and Juliet' GCSE English Literature Revision" series! In this video, I annotate the prologue that opens the play, considering how it presents the play's characters, relates to the play's themes, and functions formally as a piece of drama. I provide a bunch of annotations in this video and include context where relevant too, all of which should help you out as your study or revise Shakespeare's play.

Thanks to my amazingly talented friend Charlie for creating my channel icon, banner, and watermark! You can find more examples of his phenomenal work here: charlielanebush.com/
Would you in a similar manner discuss the poem "Voila" which is the lyric to Barbara Pravi's song. Her song placed second in the Eurovision contest in 2021. Google translate of the French is good translation. The first verse in the performance of EMMA KOK of this song with Andre Rieu in 2023 Maastritch, reminded me of the Prologue to Romeo and Juliet.
This channel has saved me so many times in revision. Thank you Mr Knight for your invaluable time and insight. 🤗
Bit late but the chorus also has a regular rhyme scheme ABAB, CDCD, EFEF, GG this could signify that romeo and juliets story is predictable further insinuating the theme of fate
I think 'nought could remove' links to the theme of fate and the powerlessness over what happens that not only the actors experience but the audience too.None of us have the power to change the events that have been pre-determined by fate. Thanks for your channel.
Nought could remove is the functional definition of samsara. Endless circle of suffering, which has nothing to do with fate, because it is created by each individual's participation. The cycle is temporarily broken by the extraordinary and non-conventional actions of the star-crossed lovers.
thank you so much! 💙
Nice!
Hello! I really enjoy your videos, and you are honestly the only youtube channel that helps me.I was wondering if you could do a video on the theme of male aggression as I have an exam on it soon?
Hello! Thanks for the kind words - although I can't promise to make that video any time soon, I can recommend this:
- Check out my videos on 'Gender' and 'Conflict and Violence' as the overlaps there should definitely relate to your exam q.
- I'm uploading a video (working on it atm) this weekend in which I annotate the opening scene, which will definitely relate to your exam q. I'll even see if I can add in an extra annotation or two that are on topic for you.
How's that sound? Good luck with the exam!!
@@DystopiaJunkie Perfect! Thank you so much!
