    I suggest "take their life" in the prologue would be understood to reference their heritage. Their lives came from the loins of the feuding families.

      Actually, since the play was before the 3 wall set, it was not yet called braking the fourth wall so his phrasing is actually correct

    I don't think "take their life" refers to suicide here. As I understand this the sentence says that lovers take their life from the fatal loins. I.e. lovers were born in the warring families. Their death is foretold in the following lines.

    When you mentioned the “fatal loins of these two foes” and your definition of the individual terms fatal and loins meaning capable of causing death and reproductive organs of a man and woman.
    Could this also imply the reproduction represents sex which holds the theme of love and intimacy which is what Romeo and Juliet’s relationship possesses throughout so it foreshadowed the death of two lovers of the “two foes”. So fatal loins instead being the loins of Romeo and Juliet and not their parents??

    hi could you say that Shakespeare breaks the third wall to make the audience aware of the fact of how conflict is as silly as a piece of fiction? I don't know how to word it exactly but I hope you understand what I am trying to say :)

    • @classic.bebebae
      @classic.bebebae Před 3 lety

      yes and also the fact that he wished the ausdience not to have an emotional connection with the play hence why he uses the noun 'stage', instead of silly use the adj 'pointless'

    I still don’t properly understand the effect of having a powerful play undermined by the fact that it is just a production I know this is explored in macbeth’s nihilism and hamlets play within a play I just don’t see why this would be effective in Romeo and Juliet :(
