      It’s awful. I know a lot of City fans were looking forward to seeing what he could do this season. Rumors were running about the possibility of bringing Rodrygo in from RM bc of the Alvarez exit. Many thought it would more likely be a 2025 summer transfer if anything. With Bobb out, I wonder if that could be sped up? It would be one hell of a statement signing tho…

    • @TheOnlyTaps
      @TheOnlyTaps Před 27 dny +7

      @@papalegba6796 Haha true. It might still be up there. But yeah hopefully for City he has a good year. Coz that deal made so much sense on paper for them given his role at Leeds but it just hasn't materialized for him at City yet. Same with that other kid they signed from Wolves, Nunes I think. He's another who just can't seem to nicely carve a role for himself in that midfield and by the time they do City may just eventually then move past them when that torch eventually gets passed from the KDB era.

    • @papalegba6796
      @papalegba6796 Před 27 dny +4

      @@TheOnlyTaps Phillips grew up with a chaotic home life & criminal dad. He was always a good kid, but desperately looking for direction. Bielsa filled that role for him perfectly. Some managers just know how to click with players, Brian Clough was a genius at it. Guardiola expects players to be self sufficient when they are bought, has no time for high maintenance players. Which is why he would fail in a lower league, he can't build them up from nowhere like a Bielsa or Clough.

    • @TheOnlyTaps
      @TheOnlyTaps Před 27 dny +3

      @@papalegba6796 Ah didn't know that. But yeah Bielsa did always seem like a father figure for him. Had that hint of Carlo in him where he builds a fantastic bond with his players off the pitch more than anything. And yeah Pep is a fantastic tactician, but struggles to deal with some personalities in his dressing rooms. Coz different players need different needs, some need an arm around them some need hard treatment etc, Pep doesn't ever seem to bother adapting it's always his way of the highway.
      But yeah hopefully for Kalvin it eventually works out. Whether it's at City or a different club. He's far too talented to be wasting himself on the bench coz sometimes you gotta just bet on yourself. Coz as a Madridista I've seen many players find themselves in that situation and have to leave Madrid to get their joy like an Ødegaard. So sometimes it's the best for all parties.
      But yeah will be interesting to see how it plays out for him this season. I'm also excited to see how City use Savinho coz I enjoyed watching him in La Liga, he's gonna cause some defenders nightmares coz he's basically a right sided Doku but with even more precise dribbling.

    Arsenal : best chance, complete and young squad missed out twice meaning they still have the hunger to win it while City players having won it multiple times might drop off, although I'm sure Pep will try his hardest not to let them
    Liverpool: transition year with Slot, haven't signed anyone (still need a top class DM). 3rd or 4th as they still have a great squad
    United: Some great signings but I won't trust them until we see results on the pitch and BIG improvements in their general play, last season was quite pathetic defensively
    Chelsea: Complete mess
    Spurs: lol
    Newcastle: Still too early for them to compete for the title, specially if they get the same number of injuries as last season. I rate Eddie Howe however
    Aston Villa: they had a great season but ended it quite badly as the team ran out of steam, can they improve? spent a huge sum on transfers, will the CL hinder their chances? big question marks on them, lets just say "dark horse"

    I don’t really comment about being a man city fan , or comment in general when it comes to city unless I feel a strong urge too, and this is one of those times. (I watched the first 3 minutes and had to comment)just from my personal experience , just who I am as a person. When someone tells me to check out something albeit music,tv etc. I tend to do the opposite and tend to stay away from what people recommend. Also growing up playing in youth soccer teams , all the kids loved yernited , Barcelona ,Madrid , Chelsea ,arsenal. To me personally wanting to choose my own path my own thing. I choose to go with supporting the complete opposite . That being said, city was the team for me. I loved cheering for the underdog/villan, it was funny cheering for a team that everyone got mad for when they(city) won. At that time in 2013/14 city just won the league, (my inaugural season was watching Chelsea’s mourniho win the league with relative ease. I woke up for those early 4-5 am games To watch pellegrini’s city. I can attest that city did NOT, and still do not get the same coverage as other teams. What I’m trying to say is,it’s easier watching “traditional” ucl /epl teams play then it its to watch city play. I have to go out of my way to find city games while other games are more readily available.nbc in America along with USA network cover premier league games,but let’s say in a match week you got 2,3,4 games going at once 7/10 times they won’t show the city games, if Liverpool,united,arsenal play. Sometimes I watch the games on Spanish stations because el telamundo or VUDN will show the city games where as nbc/USA won’t. Personally the Spanish commentary is better in most cases, I do like the nbc broadcasters they are usually fine, it’s the American broadcasters who I sadly can’t take serious when they give commentary. Anyways my point about all this , is that, although city dominate the league and are a major player in almost every ucl tournament for the past 4 years . I can still find it hard to find city games although times have changed and it is easier , back in the day almost 10 years ago, trying to watch a city game under pelllegrinis era and early pep was hard

    Lets not forget ARS bloody opening set of fixtures. Think it was said they have the 2nd/3rd most difficult opening fiveish games. Their closing set of fixtures are just as grimy too...although they showed they can handle that last season (bar the slip up against AVL but c'mon one loss in 19 games is still incredible, they just ran out games in the end).

    Alma is too good to be a backup, it was hard to see him go, but he deserves to strut his stuff on the regular, so I hope he cooks in La Liga with Atletico.
    However, I can't lie, this season, to me, is going to look like the beginning of preparing for a post-Guardiola Manchester City. KDB, Silva and maybe Graelish might also be on the exit, though we've got some young blood that's eager to prove themselves, so I'm looking to management to cook with some good replacements.
    However, there's no doubting that we can challenge for the league, so I'm not worried about what's coming up.

    Walker himself has said if they drop of by even the tiniest of margins Arsenal will leapfrog them. They have made 1 signing and sold 34 goals worth of talent without replacing him. It's gonna be difficult for City and last year proved they were human. Arsenal at the Emirates/Etihad outclassed, Aston Villa away outclassed, Chelsea home/away outclassed, Palace home outclassed, Nottingham Forest away outclassed, Liverpool at Anfield outclassed and so on. Last season they were vulnerable and if Arsenal improve the area which was the source of problems (left side) then I think they will be de-throned. I also think we can't discount Liverpool who were unbelievable in pre-season, I've got them 4th but they would be my dark horses for the title, same with Villa. It's also been said Mikel Arteta is desperate to beat Pep Guardiola to the league, it's an obsession.

    The key to Cory’s success or downfall this season (not win the PL for example) will be due to no proper cover for Rodri who could replace Gundo. We have a 100% loss rate with no Rodri. Should he get injured OR if he’s mandated to play every game (this season could see upwards of 75) he will be next to useless with extreme fatigue, just look at him in the FA cup semi v Chelsea as he looked like a dead man walking.
    IF City bring in a suitable cover who can also play the 8 role like Kimmich or Bruno G etc, then I think City are the statistical favorites to win the league. But if not, and I don’t see how we can win it as Rodri is the engine room of our team. Praying the board does the right thing: being in proper cover for Rodri can smash the hopes and dreams of rival fans lol
