Story behind the song:
The American Heritage Lyceum Philharmonic (Youth Orchestra) and its director, Kayson Brown, approached us with this idea. We loved it. It combined two of the things we are working to accomplish -- inviting people to classical music and inspiring young musicians. Steven Sharp Nelson had soloed with the orchestra the previous year and loved the spirit and the talent that the orchestra showed at such young ages (ages 13-18!) Together we developed the concept of "Beethoven's 5 Secrets," combining OneRepublic's tune "Secrets" with melodies and moments from all four movements of Beethoven's 5th Symphony.
We used 5 different melodies from the 4 movements of Beethoven's 5th Symphony (not including the "bridge" the orchestra plays in the middle). Try to guess where they are and where they come from!
What are Beethoven's secrets? He had many. His most prominent secret that he desperately tried to keep from the public and that caused him to be considered extremely eccentric, irritable, and hermit-like was his "weakness." He was deaf during most of his life. Imagine that...one of the greatest composers that ever lived could hardly hear. And yet, he wrote his life's greatest works after becoming deaf. He believed that art itself had "secrets" that had to be "forced into" in order to obtain art's highest level. There is no doubt Beethoven discovered many of the "secrets" of art -- people all over the world enjoy them every day. He was a true master of music, blessed by God. This piece and video are dedicated to him.

Vocês são show! Adoro suas músicas!
I'm deaf with Ménière's disease (same disease beethoven had) so I feel very connected to him and his music. I've loved him since I was a little girl!! (Before I lost my hearing) I went several years without hearing aids, not being able to truly listen to music. When I finally got hearing aids, I listened to this song and I cried!!! I cried so much. Hearing THIS song after many years of hearing basically nothing was an experience I will forever be grateful for. This is so, SO beautiful. Thank you so much for giving me such a masterpiece to listen to! I feel so overwhelmed when I listen to this. It's amazing!!
Madison Beckstedt Ah.. I almost cried when I was reading your reaction😔 Your such a strong person
Madison Beckstedt path
I've listened to this song many times, but now listening to it after reading your story, when it gets past the halfway point and the volume and everything rises and it feels like a triumph, it allowed me to see this song in a new way. Thank you for sharing. I hope your hearing aids work well for you so you can continue to enjoy music.
hope you enjoy being able to listen to these masterpieces as much as the whole piano guys fanbase xoxo
who cares? this comment is not about what specific disease Beethoven had. This comment is so much more than that. Comment that somewhere else

This is the song I have chosen to walk down the aisle to next week. I almost cried when I heard this song performed this way. So beautiful!

Congratulations!! Blessings ✨💫✨
I walked down the aisle to this....☺️
This was my wedding song too it is spine chilling 💖 Hope your day was amazing xxx
Congratulations ❤️❤️
When this song started playing I was on the brink of tears. When I was about 9 I heard this song for the first time, and I was so inspired. My musical journey began as I set my heart on playing cello. After 5th grade I received a cello as a gift from my grandfather and I couldn't have been more happy. After my grandad passed away, I turned to the Piano Guys once again for inspiration. To this day in High School, I play the Cello alongside, alto, bari, and tenor Saxophone . I'm so happy you guys showed me that music has more power than words.
Thank you so much for everything.
Keep it up. God bless.
You're story is magic like this music .
I wish same for myself....
i wish i could also play music instruments....
Amen brother. I love the sound of music, when it's difficult to explain in words how one feels, the instruments are perfect for doing that for you. keep playing your heart out bro, God bless you and your family.
This is so inspiring! I'm happy for you😊
Still watching this video in 2023. My absolute favorite piece from TPG. It's on my list of Songs That Make Me Weep. I think of my late husband when I listen to this. He's been gone for 18 years. He introduced me to classical music. I wish I could have shared this contemporary masterpiece with him. I'll be seeing you soon, my love. ♡
this song was part of a very important moment of my childhood. I never forgot it, and looked for it for almost 10 years and today I found it. I can’t believe.
I got married to my beautiful wife (of 4 years today!) to this song, and I cry like crazy every time I hear it
So I'm not the only one! :')
Damn, your wife is really young
I know the feeling, over thirty years for me. Just thinking of all the lost opportunities, siiigh.
I see I'm not the only one who thought that this would be perfect song for a wedding 😀
zephc Aww that's so beautiful!!
I'm just scrolling through the comments in different languages and it makes me so happy to realize music is bringing people together who speak different languages, especially now. It's really amazing. Who agrees with me?

The pure joy on his face every time he plays shows he plays from the heart. He puts his whole being into his music.
October 18, 2019, and yes still watching. I’ve been studying for a doctor’s degree for 7 years at Hong Kong University and this song has been my only refuge in times of distress and pain. I have Asperger’s, which makes my social skills worse than that of most people and I still get bullied a bit even in university. This song has pulled me through dark moments in my life when I was in despair, self-harmed and even had suicidal thoughts. Thank you OneRepublic, and also ThePianoGuys, who have made my life worth living.
Also, to people who want to suicide out there, please rethink your decision. I do not think suicide is brave or cowardly, just that you are leaving a trail of destruction behind you. Sometimes you might think that life is not worth living, or nothing in life goes along your plan, and you feel just useless, a waste of oxygen, a piece of trash in human society. Nobody cares about you, and you just want to die, leave your life behind, no more worries, no more pain. Believe me, I have experienced that before too. But please, think of all the sadness and despair you’ll leave behind in your family and friends’ hearts, and also the life you’ll be leaving behind. Think of all the good moments in your life, the happiness, the sparkles. Please, do continue living on, and be happy as your life progresses. Try to live happily, and remember that suicide is a dead end.
How beautiful! Be blessed and protected always, always, by God Jesus!
You are very brave and you are doing so well. I really feel you and respect you for choosing to live. God bless you. Take care.
You have gotten so far in life. You're amazing.
You have such a insuring heart and speech. Your awesome

Your courage and openness is to be revered. Stay the course, you're among the best of the best.

Right now, there are people all over the world who are just like you. They're either lonely, they're missing somebody, they're depressed, they're hurt, they're scarred from the past, they're having personal issues no one knows about, they have secrets you wouldn't believe. They wish, they dream and they hope. And right now, they are sitting here reading these words, and I'm writing this for you so you dont feel alone anymore. Always remember, don't be depressed about the past, don't worry about the future, and just focus on today. If today's not so great don't worry! Tomorrow's a new chance. If you are reading this, be sure to share this around to make others feel better. Have a nice day! :)

Whoever read this, remember: Life is short. Cut out negativity, forget gossip, say goodbye to people who don´t care. Spend time with people who are always there.

10 years on and this is still one of my favorite piano guys videos!
Mine too this is soooo good
I just saw this live last night and it was so beautiful. This has been my favorite song for a long time. Back when I was at rock-bottom and super depressed, I would turn on some music. One night, the emotions got so bad that I actually sat on the floor with the pills in my hand, and I turned on my music to at least fall asleep not feeling so alone. But this song came on and I realized, If music can be this gorgeous and uplifting, why can't life be the same way?

most skilled song heard this year. really highlights your gifts as musicians that you heard and harmonized these songs and performed them so amazing
piano music like this is so inspiring for me, i created my piano channel when I heard music like this on piano, in an attempt to one day sound half as good as these people, it would mean the world if you showed any support on my channel but what amazing music!!
I hope the kids in the orchestra can see and appreciate all of the passion you have for your art. I hope that some day they will be able to share that passion with you.❤
That quote by Beethoven in the beginning -- I wholeheartedly agree with it. When playing an instrument, you are making a commitment to a lifelong journey that you can't halfheartedly play every now and then, you gotta pick it up or sit down or do whatever, get out that sheet music, and practice your heart out. No song is impossible given enough practice.
John Baek "no piece is impossible given enough practice"takes out sheet music(Hungarian rhapsody no 2)
When you experience something so beautiful it actual chokes you up...
10 years ago I listened to this as college student. It inspired me to try harder in life. Now I graduated college and have stable job. Comes back here every now and then as reminder to "Not only practice one's art but force one's way into its secrets."
There has been many nights I have just put this song on loop and just poured my heart out! I have been watching since 2016 and been to one of their concerts and I can say that these men are influential.
I could listen to this a million times over and never get over how beautiful it is

I love that they never stopped making music.
It is sad that Beethoven will never experience the emotion this performance has brought to his music through One Republic and the Piano Guys.
Maravilhosa
@Yong Hui This tune is non-sense mixed with a little bit of Beethoven paraphrase, still pretty but not sure Beethoven would like it
Am I the only one who gets really emotional listening to this masterpiece?

I don't think the true magic is the music but what's it's able to do... I see Italian, Russian, English, french and German comments. people from all over the world have the same emotions. I don't think that it is only the truly beautiful music but the unity and connection it makes.

I don’t know what makes this song so awesome, but it’s awesome.
Wait actually, I know what makes it so awesome, it’s:
Everything, Cello, Flute, Violin, the players, etc.
I love the very gifted kid musicians; and the way the solo celloist plays freely with the conductor who hears it, as they are connected back to back, who instructs the large orchestra… who the cellosit hears…
October 1st 2019, yes somebody is watching. I am 64 years old. I love classical, and I also really rock out to rock and roll. Def Leppard and Jon Bon Jovi still live on. But so do The Piano Guys. Cynthia Castoro

This composition brings me to tears nearly every time I watch it. And I've pulled it up over and over during the years. It's not just the music, it's the cooperation and syncing of five men... I love it. It makes me think that humans aren't always horrible. We can do amazing, beautiful things too.

Watching these two men as they play their musical instruments seeing the utter joy and love they have for music, makes me feel happiness and purpose somewhere in this life. Thank you so much!
Blasted this beautiful sound and everything good from my past came to life once again! It felt so wonderful💖🕊
I love the part in the beginning where it switches from the intro of "Secrets" to Bach's Cello Suite "Prelude"
Stephen, you need to know how much this amazing arrangement means to me. I have played the piano/violin/organ my entire life and done well - but only on a academic level, not on an emotional one. But the first time i saw you perform this, the joy on your face was just so touching. I struggled for a very long time to find that joy. To feel the overwhelming presence of Heavenly Father and KNOW that as i played i was actively blessing others. I feel blessed when i watch/listen to you play. Thank you. Thank you for the joy and love of the music that you portray.
I agree wholeheartedly.
lovely.
i feel like iwant to listen to this music forever
your comment is so corect
Music is a manner of communicating. :) I'm not a professional musician but I've played piano and sang since childhood. To get passionate and emotional, I think about what story and message the song is trying to convey. Is it mourning a loss? Is it romantic and loving? Basically, like in "method acting" I meditate on those emotions and feel them personally and come up with a reason why I must deliver the meaning of this song to people and let them know my story. I only say this because it might give you some ideas or inspiration to try new things while you play? Good luck. :)
As a huge OneRepublic fan, I was blown away after hearing this. Absolutely beautiful! To think I found this originally because I was searching for stuff to help my mom with a summer camp she was running. Here I am now, totally blown away and racing back to you guys. I own a copy of Uncharted, but this is something worth listening to beyond that.
I can't get over the talent of all these young musicians. It is truly mind blowing! They are so very good!

Wow… goosebumps. This is breathtaking.
Simplemente me apasiona.
Grandioso!

I had the privilege of being in the audience with orchestra-pit seats in San Antonio, TX as hurricane Harvey bore down on us in 2017. They went through with the show and the meet-and-greet was fantastic. These folks are genuine, what you see on stage is what you get in person. I was a bit disappointed at the "no photographs" and "no autographs please" signs at the entrance to the meet-and-greet only to find out that they were taking digital photographs WITH US and posting them on Facebook for us to download. These weren't just little 640X460 shots, they were 6MP wonderful shots. On the way out each of us was treated to a program that was hand-signed by the entire group. If you ever have the chance to see them in concert it's well worth the money to get front-row seats! Beautiful music and a wonderful show. THANK YOU
Such raw talent! These guys are awesome. I love how they turned a classical piece into a modern sounding song with the beat and everything! Bach would be proud 😊

My son had this played this, as his wife walked down the isle, it made us both cry.. beautiful...
I think this is one of the most beautiful renditions of this song I have ever heard. I listen to it over and over and never tire of it.
Don't only practice your Art
But Force your way into its Secrets
For it and Knowledge
Can raise men into the Divine

I've heard it on the radio for months and finally had a listening app that IDs music. This has brought forth so many emotions and when I watched it the tears flowed. What a beautiful piece of music.
This version has me actually crying. Even the most hardened of Hearts can at times "feel".

Watch Ekaterina Bobrova and Dimitry Soloviev skate their long program to this song. If you want to be moved, their program will hit you right in the feels with the story they have for it.
