I've had caddy from 1997 5 in total. 2 mk1s. Then a 1.9tdi.1.6tdi 2.0 tdi. Always used she'll vpower diesel. Run from new to 90000 miles never had injector issues. Now have 2.0 tdi highline 69 plate. No issues on shell vpower every time
I love that colour! Mine is in the garage again. Since Christmas I've had egrcooler, oil cooler and now water pump leaking, nightmare!
Thanks, problematic vans but epic when they’re working. 😅
I own a 1.6tdi caddy on my second injector, it's a common fault apparently. Plus the stretch bolt snapped when removing it, big job to put it right. Nice colour van btw
Yeah they’re a pain. We’ve had all of them replaced now and no issues, touch wood, since. 😁
Found a 1.6caddy 2016 for an excellent price in Cyprus, but after this review & countless other reviews & comments I'll try the peugeot partner 1.6hdi,
I got my Caddy at 290,000km. At 300,000km I started having issues. I've replaced a lot of parts but she's going good now
Hi great video , looking to get a caddy myself but am a bit concerned about the lack of a 6th gear . As i do alot motorway driving , what rpm does your van sit at 70mph (120kmh)
Hi mate, I’m not too sure I haven’t really paid attention.. I’d say about the same as the Focus around 2-2.5k 😊
Morning , what did you install in the van in order to be able to scan with your cellphone?
It’s an OBD reader, you can get them online for super cheap. 😊
Glad it all got sorted smoothly, as if the said it was to low and wanted an extra £100
I know, I nearly laughed out when he said it was too low. 😂
Be sure to replace the injection bolts , as soon as you can, the bolts have a tendency to snap .an expensive fix on the cylinder head otherwise, it’s a bad design 1 bolt per 2 injector.
Good to see you got the issues sorted man, I was aware of the injectors when looking at caddys, should have been a major recall for them all imo. Be prepared for your remaining two oem ones to probably fail in turn eventually though 😂 Whats the diagnostic plug in that you use and is it the same one you use on the focus too? Seems good if you can add in features such as needle sweep and scan for problems on a phone app too!
Thanks Mark, kind of expecting the other 2 to go very shortly so hopefully its covered under the warranty. We use Carly for the VW and Forscan for the Focus. Carly doesn’t work with Fords, but Forscan is a massively great tool to have for very cheap. 😁
@@xiolage yeah hopefully they’re covered under warranty for you 🤞🏻 ok cheers for that mate, I’ll have a look into it 😀
@@xiolage Do you have a link to where you bought the Carly? Thanks
eBay 😊
Definitely one of the best Caddy's ive checked out.
Thanks, glad you like it. 😊
Where did you get the seats? Or did you buy it with them?
These came with the van, they’re seat covers. 😊
Was you with AA roadside recovery? I want to know who charged extra 100 excess to be picked up im shopping for breakdown cover
Yep that was with AA.
What’s the radio and model number. It’s brilliant
RCD360. 😁
Which model is this please @xiolage ? We're going to look at a caddy maxi life 2018 1.968cc tomorrow and now im worried! 😢are the problems you encountered due to the particular model and year you got? Thanks
You'll find the injector issue is more to do with the 1.6 TDI. The 1.9/2.0 TDI are solid options!
@@xiolage appreciate your response. Thank you
Does the 2.0 diesels have the same problems with injectors or do you know of anything to look out for on these 2014 mk3 models
I believe the 2.0 does not have the same injector issues. 😁
@@xiolage cheers mate
Looks like you may need a new battery also
So what were you charged for the injector replacement work?
was this a brand new OEM injector or refurbished one?
I have 1.6 TDI CAYC Golf Mk 6 RAC charged me £600.00 to replace my number 1 injector at side of the A1
Thankfully nothing, it was covered under the warranty. 🤞🏼
How's the golf doing?
I bought mine (CAYC 2011 model) about 10 months ago. Drives okay but I had to take it to the shop every month with some part failing. Recently it's drinking the collant every 5-600 km and this is it's final straw. It's either going to be sold or scrapped. A bloody shame. It would be a great car if it was reliable. But currently it's just buyers remorse.
If your golf is loosing coolant thers a very good chance you have a leak in your EGR cooler valve,it appears to be quite common on these tdi
@@colin5064 it was replaced already by a recall. Could be it's acting up again. But it's fine for 5-600km, I've read somewhere that these intermittent coolant loss issues are caused by a semi-blocked heater core.
Anyway, car's cost me enough already, could have bought a much younger car for what I've already spent on it. I'm getting rid of it.
Did this van come from Fort William?
I’m not too sure of the origins prior to our ownership but we bought it from Gloucester. 😊
So I’m a dog Walker. And had to upgrade vehicles to cope with the rise of business. Probably my own fault for not doing much research. If I new now what I did then I would of deffo stayed clear. But thought I’d get a caddy. Vw looks good etc. in the two months I’ve owned it I’ve spent close to a grand on it 😂. It’s Been a nightmare. Owned my previous vehicle for 4 years and I’ve spent more in the two months then I did over that period. And I’m actually still waiting for all the “ common “ caddy faults to happen.
Oh dear that doesn’t sound good at all!!
@TheDogWalker what model and year did you get please. We're looking to get one as a dog van and now worried!
@@supressivepupsI got the 1.6 2013 plate. I would deffo avoid the 1.6’s as I’ve found out the hard way there’s a lot of issues with them and they’re all very costly. As my post stated in the 2 years now of ownership I’ve spent close to 2k i think now on fixing stuff that’s broke. Reliability wise terrible. Broken down around 3 times now and in my 9 years or so of driving never broken down before owning this van.
@@LSpitz_ oh that's so disappointing for you and to hear. We're due to view a 2018 maxi life 1.968 cc tomorrow, it looks fab and has the fitted crates already in. Really worried now.
Really appreciate your response.
Nice1 Xiolage
Cheers John
I will never buy a diesel Volkswagen here in Australia they have all the same problems I’m on my second caddy 1.6 petrol bse engine such a reliable engine just the gearbox’s are a weak point I’m referring to the 5 speed manual my 6r Polo 1.4 GTI is even is more reliable then a caddy,
Love your caddy by the way looks awesome.
Thanks 😊
Are the 1.9l engines better?
@@nonstickwater they are a good motor I’ve heard from my mechanic but it’s the injectors that go I believe
1.6BSE engines are almost bullet proof if well maintained
hello. is the 2.0L engine better than 1.6?
It really depends what you’re after.
Far better have a 1.6 TDI never again have it a year and half injector clutch and altantor have friends with the 2.0 TDI runs like a dream
what is that app called at 04:18 ?
Carly 😊
I’ve had a complete c##t with my caddy 16 tdi all the injectors fuel lines pumps cam belt fucking everything anyway two weeks later same issue got it repaired again two weeks later same again limp mode I don’t trust it anymore and it’s cost fucking thousands fucking hate it
They’re very specific cars. We changed our injectors with the upgraded part number and haven’t had an issue since. Mint van 👍🏼
Low profiles on a van. What else has been played with?
I think they suit 💪🏼
Jeez when I watch these caddy vids I'm wishing I'd never bought one, just know there's gonna be a shit load of issues 😏
Don’t be discouraged, once the little issues are ironed out they’re incredible vans. We haven’t had an issue since. 😊
I feel for you. I had two injectors go within a week of each other... two weeks after picking up my Caddy. I was bloody furious at it. So I've got another 2 'S' injectors to replace next month (they're sat in the Caddy itself just incase) before the other two go as they're still factory at 155K miles. But yeah, bloody annoying and VW should have recalled them because I've seen them go after only 10,000 miles. Its a roll of the dice tbh.
That’s really funny, because that’s the exact same situation as us.. a week after the first one the next one went. Luckily got them all replaced and haven’t had an issue since. 😁
@@xiolage On the 1.6 tdi engines all of the 4 injectors will go out, its fixed after 2014 models. its known issue, best to replace all 4 when one goes out
All are done now. 😊
How much does it cost to replace the injectors? Going to view a 2013 caddy in about an hour and was aware it could be an issue but not sure how much it will cost
If u buying 1.6 caddy its your own fault 😂
That's the risk we took, thankfully it's all sorted under warranty. 😁
@@xiolage U were lucky then 👌
Going to view 1 today… should I stay clear then? Lol
Make sure the injectors have been replaced.
@@xiolage 2 previously replaced by British Gas and the other 2 replaced in 2022 mate
VW with problems ?? isn't this a german car ???
Even the Germans get it wrong sometimes. 👍🏼
Volkswagen. Das Auto. XD XD it that "mom says i'm special" kind of a german car. sadly it applies to most of german cars built after 2004 and some like mercedes started building crap too starting that year. sometimes they seem to want to "improve" things that didnt break and transform them to consumables
Could be worse - my Transporter BiTDI (owned from new) needed a new engine after 60,000 miles 😢
