I feel like puppets are really under rated in Naruto. Sasori and chiyo are powerful and kankuro should have remade the 10 puppets chiyo used and used the sasori puppet in the war. If I was a normal ninja with no family bs power, puppets is where I would aim for.
Puppets are a gamble. It forces you to fight mid to long range, they are not so good up close. The more time you devote to mastering the puppet, the less you have to train for CQC. And, as Sasori demonstrated, a careful opponent can target the joints. It's also extremely mentally taxing. Each puppet you use is 1 more piece you have to track on the board (after counting yourself and your opponent, the first puppet makes 3). Strategy and positioning are going to be huge factors in any battle.

More than just the early days. Susanoo is arguably a rip off of Netero's ultimate Buddha technique also. Naruto has good childhood nostalgia value, but as an adult I see it's relatively ordinary which is why HxH continually seems referenced in the series.

I feel like people don't give Kankuro enough credit. He's certainly a talented puppeteer and a deceptive tactician, despite his arrogant attitude. He may have gotten stomped by Sasori, but let's face it: Sasori was one of, if not THE greatest puppeteer(s) in the ninja world (only rivalled by his own grandmother, Chiyo) and had intel on the puppets Kankuro was using since Sasori was the one who originally built them. Kankuro also sort of redeemed himself by later defeating Edo Tensei Sasori in the war arc, and proved to be a very effective field strategist in that battle. He may have been overshadowed by Gaara and Temari in overall battle power by the end of Shippuden, but the point of a puppet user isn't to be super powerful, but to be a sneaky and effective long-range covert operative on the battlefield. I'd say after Chiyo and Sasori died, Kankuro was left as the most powerful remaining puppet user in the 'verse.

This fight is too strange and it’s hard to understand the limit of the puppets. Here are the points: - At second 42, Misumi takes Kankuro from behind and at minute 1:31 you can see the threads where the puppet was aiming. What’s going on? Do the threads go through the mass and pass into another dimension? - Misumi has a strong hold on the puppet, and doesn’t he realize that he’s not putting pressure on flesh but on another type of matter? - Maybe we understands that it can be done by transformation, but it seems that Kankuro was inside where the puppet should be. He would have to have a great ability to curl up since the puppet’s backpack is much smaller than him. For me, the use of puppets is too overrated. I see many points that should be against it, besides it leaves the puppet vulnerable after it is located.
Power levels were kind of weird here. It was stated that gaara and kabuto were as strong as kakashi, and that kabutos squad were spies. Yet genin beat all of them.
Kankuro always bugged me. What kind of life is it to be carried around on a puppets back unable to see what's going on for days/weeks at a time, just so you can do this one trick once? Also so many jutsus would blast that puppet, and then he's stuffed.

physical clones are very high level techniques that are only available to naruto thanks to his chakra pool both as a jinchuriki and an uzumaki. Plus if you punch a clone it goes away but if you punch karasu it stays to stab you back.
The use of Dolls in Boruto chuunin exams was one of the cringiest things I've ever seen on any anime, even worse is that it was Saradas fights, the only character on the entire anime that I actually like
