- Having fun on an overnight bushcraft camping trip to the tipi base camp. The weather is April wacky as ever, one minute sunny, then hail storm with thunder. One of you asked me a few months ago if I could demo making a bow from scratch, so I made one from green beech wood. This is not a bow meant to last long but more of an emergency type of bow. It pulls at around 30 pounds, more than enough to secure some wild food if you really needed it. I used my axe for removing the majority of the excess wood and then I used my single hand crooked draw knife for most of the refining. If there is interest, I can make a video on making natural cordage for the bow and arrows from natural materials, let me know in the comments if you would like that.
Also a bit of simple spit roast campfire cooking on this one and I go for a hike to do some painting. I am so amazed at the talents of this man, I wouldn't be surprised to see him stride out into the woods, cut down a birch tree, make a canoe out of it with his wonderful tools, then a set of oars.......I am 85 years old and since finding Ric on CZcams, do not go to bed each night without watching at least a couple of his videos....

Hi Ric I’m working my way through the tipi diaries and you have inspired me to stock up on my bushcraft gear and skills while in lockdown. I’ve just lost my old Tom cat, who was my best friend and watching you with Petris I can see you had the same bond. I hope you get give another pup a home and we can see them grow with you. Great video, love the primitive bow making and roasted chicken yum. Would really like to see bow string and arrow making. And a primitive rabbit or deer hunt would be great.

Amazing as always. Just a little tip for tillering your next bow, your tips were bending too much, bring the bend more close to the handle, distribute the bend all over de limb, that should give more poundage and more cast. Cheers
