Vintage motorcycle: Moto Guzzi Falcone 500 Sport sound. Starting and acceleration

  • The Moto Guzzi Falcone is a motorcycle built by Moto Guzzi between 1950 and 1967. Falcone was the motorcycle that best represented Carlo Guzzi's motorcycling thinking, a simple motorcycle but which also hides refined technical solutions for the time, which they made it a legendary motorcycle in many ways.
    The closed double cradle frame, telescopic front fork and rear suspension with swingarm with springs placed under the engine and friction shock absorbers under the tool bags, all characterized by maximum construction robustness.
    For the engine, here is another Moto Guzzi "classic", a 498 cc single-cylinder. with bore and stroke 88 x 82 millimeters which derived directly from the Normale of the 1920s. At the beginning of his career it was proposed in a single version and alongside the "Astore" which had already been in production for a year but had already been removed from production in 1953 and Falcone was split into two versions: "Normal" and Sport and it remained the only 500 cc in the Moto Guzzi price list.
    The gearbox was a four-speed gearbox with always meshing gears and was derived from racing models such as the "Dondolino", of which it also used the external casing, but in the case of the Falcone it was made of aluminum and not the very expensive but extremely light Electron. The engine delivered a power of 23 HP which allowed the bike to reach 135 km per hour: an absolutely laughable speed and power by today's criteria but Falcone was able to maintain the maximum speed even for long periods thanks to the excellent lubrication and cooling down.
    Another fundamental characteristic of Mandello's single-cylinder engines was the presence of the external flywheel (the so-called ham slicer) which also characterized the operation of the engine both at idle - very low, so much so that it was possible to count the explosions - and during acceleration.
    Falcone was a robust and stable motorbike when cornering, intended for those who wanted to maintain high averages even at maximum speed; However, he preferred straight routes to roads full of curves. Also for these reasons it was for many years the motorbike favored by the traffic police who considered it unsurpassable in many respects and for this reason when more modern and faster models appeared on the market and Falcone fell from public favour, it was left alive until 1967 and supplied, in addition to the Highway Guard, also the Guardia di Finanza and the Cuirassier Corps. By now the new V7 twin was ready, but that's another story.
    Falcone was painted red with black and gold piping. The 1952-53 models had black tank side panels to save on chrome.

    Today the Moto Guzzi Falcone is easily available on the collector's motorcycle market with an average price of around 10,000 Euros for an example in excellent condition.

    Purtroppo tra non molto questi gioielli c'è li possiamo godere solo su CZcams, e viva i motori endotermici benzina o diesel, se diesel ancora meglio 😂🔝

    non esattamente, è un Turismo, si distingue per quattro dettagli: manubrio largo, pedane centrali, pedale del freno posteriore “a tacco” che si aziona appunto col tacco o spostandosi indietro col piede, il pedale del cambio è a bilanciere come maggior parte delle moto dell’epoca, a differenza della versione Sport che aveva manubrio più corto e leggermente avanzato, pedane leggermente spostate indietro, pedale freno “a punta” che si aziona con la punta della scarpa, e cambio a bilancere ma con la parte posteriore rialzata per via della posizione arretrate delle pedane.
    Comunque un bel esemplare, ottimo anche il restauro 👍
