In this video and show the steps and procedures Necessary to replace the spark plugs on the 2.7 L eco-boost engine. It’s particular vehicle is a 2015 F150 XLT. Ford recommend you replace the spark plugs every 40 to 50,000 miles. Because these eco-boost engine is our turbo charged They can follow up in carbon up a lot quicker than other engines. And in most cases it will cause a bad misfire. There’s no special tools required to do this job however there are a couple tops And trucks on the way to help you out. Always use high-quality in as he is in dielectric grease when installing spark plugs in aluminum heads. This will help remove all of the spark plug later down the road and it will preserve the threads in the head. I hope this video has been helpful if it has please like and subscribe. My idea of an excellent tutorial...good camera angles, the complete list of tools, and when and where you need them...also good flow with the audio, no hesitation, and he knows what he is talking about .....the people who gave it thumbs down, probably thought that you do this with a pair of vise grips

I know my way around the garage quite well, but watching someone walk through it beforehand was very helpful. $75 for the plugs and an hour or two of my time was a lot better than the $350 the dealership wanted to do the job (although my chest is sore from leaning over the fenders for two hours). Awesome video Aaron. The direction was spot on. I just completed the replacement on my 2016 F150 2.7 L with 130,000 miles on the original plugs. Surprisingly the original plugs still looked good and did not have any misfires. I sure appreciate your video after getting quotes for $520 and $1200 for spark plug replacement.

Decent video, thanks for showing the little details. However, I see that there's a reason you didn't show accessing plug/coil #3 (rearmost passenger side)... You know why?? Because it's GIGANTIC PAIN IN THE ASS!!!

He didn't. He only used that for the cover. He even mentioned the proper torque is 11 pounds/ feet.
Love the video...straight forward. I used to do all my spark plugs on all my Ford trucks until I bought the famous 2005 F150 (two part plug that often seized and broke). But now my 2016 F150, 2,7 liter should be like a piece of cake, and I''ll also celebrate with ice cream. Plugs are so easy to do. THUMBS UP!!!!
Gonna have to get out my step ladder on this one. The 4x4 sits pretty high, lol
@@robertclymer6948 And seriously, don't forget the boogie board when you're reaching the very back plug, and you have to lay on top of the motor to stretch out to reach the # 4 plug. Or a small sheet of half inch plywood. Good luck!
This was super helpful man. Only thing different from mine was there was more wiring around the 6 that I had to disconnect. My occ hose was also above the 6
Great video! Really helps me when the video starts with a general overview INCLUDING the tools etc that are required, just like you did. On my 2018 F150 4x4 Lariat 2.7 I found the drivers side rear (#6 i beleive?) the toughest as 2 EGR/plastic lines were right over it along with a slew of wire harnesses and branches. I actually ended up sitting on the battery to do the passenger side, and standing on a 5 gallon bucket of drywall mud to do the driver side as i didn't want to disassemble the intake piping - and I am a pretty tall dude but BOY are they tucked back in and down in that engine cavity! The old ones all looked ok - consistent wear and coloring across al of them, but I had 90k on this rig and noticed a bit of delay when I floored it on occasion. Dealer only had OEM plugs and was ignorant of any alternatives (plus they told me i only needed 4 plugs!) and as i understand it i am better off with colder running plugs so I went with NGK ILTR7N8 plugs from oh oh oh O'reilly's and they are performing great.

Very good video!! So far this week me and a neighbor have changed plugs on his V8 2014 F150, my 3.5L turbo 2015 F150 and coming up is my sons 2.7 L turbo 2016 F150. My truck literally sounds like new. Don't wait like I did!!
I just changed mine out on my 2015. How long did you wait before you changed yours? I was at 95,000 miles and I developed a misfire in 3 of the cylinders. Replacing them did the trick. Thanks of course to this great video

Thanks for the great video! This wasn't as big of a chore as I had thought. It's a little difficult reach to the back plugs but I've seen worse (1998 F150 5.4L-all day job with the front tires deflated).
I have a 2016 2.7 and pulled the engine cover off and the setup was slightly different than the 2012 3.5 eco I used to have and thought I would have to disconnect the wiring harness to get the coil packs out until I found this video then found out there is just enough slack in the wires to get them out, the rear passenger side one was a little tight but got the job done...they say you can go 100K on plugs nowadays but boosted engines put more stress on plugs than similar N/A engines...I changed mine at 65K miles even though I wasn't having any misfire issues etc.
Very helpful video for changing them out for the first time. Would have been nice to see how he removed the coil and plug from the passenger side rear cylinder. That thing kicked my butt for over an hour. Finally got it in though. All the other cylinders were a breeze.

Great video. Just a heads up Motorcraft iridium plugs ARE NOT to be gapped. If they get damaged (almost impossible) you have to just buy another one. They aren’t like a copper plug. Good practice to check them however.
Saved me a bunch of $$$ and time.... only thing I would add... I used an old 1" thick yoga mat, laid across the front of the engine bay, and just got into #3 with both hands. Not as bad when you're right on top of it.

Thanks you ever crossthread a spark plug... I have .My brother showed me a trick with small rubber hose. Put it on the end of the plug hose need to be tightenough to hold the weight of the plug.Turn hose to the right.You can feel if you got the spark plug started.
great video, I've never done an oil change on my new f150 however i did on my previous truck which was f250 and the oil pan draining is similar so wanted to watch and see if there's any tricks. Here's a good pointer, when you're ready to drain the oil and about to turn that yellow plug, beware you don't take an oil bath because it will shoot horizontally out so you may want to get something to block it from going all over the place and preventing an oil bath like i did the first couple times.

Was using coil boot to pull out old spark plug. Passenger back left couldn’t get to it, so I through some painters tape inside my socket to make it a tight fit and was able to pull it right out

Great video . There is no easy way to #3. You just have to bend the hell out of the silicone boot and pull it out. I did not remove the heater core hose. It can be done.
Your video was spot on. Used it to swap my plugs. That #3 is a PITA...but just keep at and eventually you get it done.
Swapping all 6 took me about an hour.
I hope you realize that is a 3.5 EcoBoost in the thumbnail...not a 2.7!

Yeah it's #3 that I've currently been trying to get to for about an hour and a half now. I just can't get it unclipped with that hose in the way.

Completed this project this past weekend. Total time was 1.5hrs, and that’s with 30 minutes in the passenger back plug, #3. I recommend to unhook, what I believe is the heater hose, that blocks the access to the #3. Way easier.
I’ve heard from another mechanic I follow on CZcams say to change out the plugs at about 45k, ended up changing them at 53k and glad I did because I couldn’t believe how bad the plugs were. I run full synthetic oil changes at 5k miles intervals as well. Kinda perplexed as to why my plugs were so bad. Runs way smoother now and I didn’t even realize it didn’t before until after I changed the plugs. 8mm deep socket is very helpful BTW.
OK Arron. Finally got the spark plugs replaced this Sunday. Driver's side took about a half hour. The passenger side, plug number 3 was a real pain in the buttinski. The cable from the firewall PCM lines up straight over it along with another hose, converging right over the 3rd plug. I mean, it was terrible. Couldn't even grab the harness loom to pull up. Finalgled it with a screwdriver, and am smart enough to not attach that one back on the stud to make it easier next 50,000 miles. Finding enough angle to get the extension bits in the hole with the socket...another pain. I spent more on that plug alone than the entire left bank of plugs. But you stIill put on a GREAT VIDEO. And I know doing it myself is better than relying on any mechanic that takes short cuts and perhaps ignores plug number 3, or doesn't want to use dielectric grease on the plugs, or antiseize on the threads.
The #3 plug was beyond aggravating!

He didnt. He used it to remove/install engine cover nuts. Ratchet was used to remove plugs and installed with torque wrench. Its very obvious in the video. Watch and learn.

Only looks scary at first bud. Just take some deep breaths and lots of pictures when you start the job. If it came apart it must go back together. Slow and right is way better than fast and fucked. But, he is very adept, you’ve got that cold.
Could this be a very similar procedure for the Fusion Sport with the same 2.7L engine? My car is only at 11K miles but being tuned and modded a bit, I was hoping to go with some NGK plugs here soon

I was hoping more detail on cylinder #3. That was the time consumer on my plug change.
There may be different schedules based on fleet. Looking at my Ford F-150 owners manual for 2015, the schedule for replacing spark plugs is at 100k miles. Again, Fleet may have a different schedule. Just FYI.
Could the expanded gap on cylinder 4 cause the "shudder" that people discuss? I had an issue where I passed someone on a 2 lane road and my engine light came on and the whole front end shook if I pressed on the gas. I could coast at 55 but if I touched the accelerator it began to shudder again. I slowed down and then started driving and everything seemed fine. Wondering if this is the/a fix. Hey...just a heads up...finally got around to this...I went and checked the gaps on the plugs....all set at .028...then I noticed on each box it says that the gap is NOT adjustable...seems as though they are preset at factory
Hello Aaron I have a question I have a 2016 f150 2.7 EcoBoost with 72000 miles when im driving on the freeway at 65 or more my truck feels like shaking I thought my wheels needed balance but still keeps doing. What do you recommend I should do ?
Aaron -2017 Expediton 3.5L with 75K and installed a new set of SP580 with .030 gap. I'm still getting a low (550-650) and slightly rough idle that is really most noticeable upon deceleration at lower (in town) speeds. The new plugs made no change to the idle and that weird slight bucking at deceleration. Another fellow on the tube cleaned (3) intake sensors (3.5L) and claims it cleaned his idle issue up substantially. What would you suggest?
Nice job! One recommendation, you might want to make note of which coilpack comes from which
cylinder. I # them with a marker, helps when determining a misfire plug vs. coil. Thanks & keep them coming!

Im curious to know why it seems like my MPG dropped even using the Ford Performance Spark Plugs. Is the new Part number better or worse? curious to see if i need to check the gaps.
Thanks for the guidance. Cylinder 3 made me want to rip my hair out, but I've saved probably $200 in labor and my gas mileage is back to normal. I guess next time I shouldn't wait 129k miles to change them out.
Yes good video and something a home mechanic can still do. So I assume that the computer will adjust from the new sparks and nothing has to be done with "resetting" to say. I still remember the old points you had to adjust on the distributor and use a timing light. Now its all done electronically and instantly. Again thanks for the video. I will be doing this one day. I need to just buy some antifreeze gel - certainly dont want to strip into the heads - would not be good $$$$$$$ only have 34k sofar on this 2017.

Where were you able to find the torque spec?
