This week’s video is a bit different than usual, on Tuesday I went to the National Museum of Antiquities; the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden the Netherlands.
We went there for the Doggerland exhibit that will be closing on October 31st.
But that exhibit will not be shown in this video as it will be it's own video.

Lol, I got Netflix on a month ago, shortly before a few weeks of lockdown (Victoria, Australia) so had time for quite the 'New Netflix' binge :) When I heard Kayleigh meow while engrossed with the top part of the screen I immediately went for the ''rewind 10 seconds'' button. After a couple of seconds confusion and a *''DOH''* that would have made Homer Simpson proud, I was able to click the progress bar to see the cat under the throne that initiated Kayleigh's meow :)

Yes; if you can get a chance to go to this museum do it. Lots to see in the Netherlands and Amsterdam. In eighth grade we read watch the movie, The Diary of Anne Frank and it was surreal to see where her, family and the house they hide from the Nazi as an adult. If you have knee issues you might have some difficulty going up the very steep steps into the living quarters where hide/ lived.

I've been fortunate enough to visit the Cairo Museum (as well as the pyramids, and local sites), which is one of my fondest memories. The Rijksmuseum van Oudheden looks amazingly good as well. Some day I'll stop by! Dank u (je!) wel! Dave J

Oh Kayleigh you fed my soul and I will watch this several times. So wonderful to see the pottery in all its glory when other sites usually show broken pieces. Some of the large ones have given my eyes a healing deep into my soul. Thank You greatly because these are places I cannot afford to go. This will help all that take the time to see !!

Not amateurish at all. Nice tour. There is a new series here in the U.S. on History Channel. It is about the search for evidence of excavations of "Giant's" burial mounds conducted over 100 years ago, throughout North America.
The enormous sarcophagus you stood next to was about the correct size for the documented burials.
Nice indeed, loved the break on history videos, museum tours are always a good thing, mainly because few of us will ever be able to go to this one for instance. Thank you Kayleigh.

Interesting glance at a very nice museum, no heel strike for a quick barefoot jog presumably. The helmets on display appeared original but hard to assess when the reproduction of 'Tutankhamens mask was so convincing.
The reconstruction of his head was incredible and reminded me of 'Ex Machina' the sci-fi movie.
Our local museum is lame in comparison and we have a university, Holland invests wisley.
You mean these helmets at 10:54? Those are authentic local finds. Some of them are from a site within 2 miles from the museum (Roman Matilo fortress). I believe all of them are from the Netherlands.

I wish all pieces, not only in the dutch museum, but also the british museum, and all museums around the world returned all those ancients pieces back to their rightful countries. Overall, loveyour content and video. :)
I am fine with repatriation. Especially if the countries of origin have a plan set up to use the finds in exhibits or for research purposes. In 2017, this particular Dutch museum had to pay 550,000 euros to repatriate an important Dutch archaeological find that was originally obtained by a German noble who snatched it from a Dutch commoner... So even western countries have had their own issues with repatriation.
Anyway, what do you think about pieces given to the museum/state in recent decades? The temple at the start of this video was granted to the museum by the Egyptian government in 1979. It was a way to thank the museum for their efforts in the 1960s to salvage Egyptian archaeological sites in an area that would eventually be flooded due to the newly constructed Aswan dam.

the temple in the main hall of the museum has some secrets that not many people know if you ever go back then maybe we can meet up and I´ll show you these clues hidden in plain sight and others obscured.
I live in Leiden so it's very close to where I live.

You camera work and editing was excellent. Having you in-frame was quite nice as opposed to many who narrate from behind the camera. The slooowww pan is so hard to do. Quite a nice museum. Almost like being there.

Of course it was dubbed over later. I was not clear. Many CZcams hosts are camera shy. You might see a hand point out or some feet. To see the entire person on camera makes the entire video warm and human. Especially in museums which can be cold and sterile at times. My point was you do quite a nice job. Its a pleasure to watch.

@@HistoryWithKayleigh Not to belabor this interaction, what you offer and what many seek is beyond fun and enjoyment. There are CZcams channels beyond count that offer an attractive young face and effervescent personality dispensing fun and enjoyment. Then there are the few very serious channels offering deep intellectual reasoning, usually by someone not-so-young or bubbly. Lastly there are but a few who combine the energy of youth with the focus of maturity. You appear to be one of the few. Additional observation will confirm this hypothesis. It might even be fun as you say.

@@HistoryWithKayleigh You mentioned dentistry in ancient Egypt, I have an interesting footnote to that. In doing research on Hatshepsut, who died of an abscess, I found out that many egyptians suffered from horrific tooth decay issues. The reason for that was, when baking bread a lot of sand got into the dough and over time the sand acted as a grinder and gradually eroded their tooth enamel, causing a variety of dental issues. In many cases such as Hatchepsut fatality occurred.

I can't remember what it's called, but you showed a cameo that was brought back from the crusades after Constantinople was sacked in the 13th century. I believe it was part of Paul Rubens' collection, which he tried to hawk to various foreign royalty when he was broke.

@@HistoryWithKayleigh some times things just aren't perfect for filming. you just do the best with what you have. this was still very interesting. i'll be watching for the doggerland post. that has always fascinated me, along with the bering land bridge. they show what is possible to find under water.
Doggerland video will take about 2 weeks before it's up. First we have some Nubian pyramids if there isn't a new discovery in the field of archaeology in between 🤗

Shame you missed the "Oxborough dirk" Netherlands edition on the top floor. Six of these have been found in peat bogs across the same (f)latitude from Dublin - Norfolk - Netherlands. Made from unknown gold tin copper alloy, and formed in a press as all identical. Archaeological anomaly... I personally think they link Europe to Ancient Egypt, a guild of nations supplying tools for the "great project" (pyramids). Also x5 fit in radial pattern exactly due to the angle design on the hilt. 5 Star is a common icon in Ancient Egypt.
I didn't miss it, i didn't include it in this video as it will be in a future video 😉
I have visited & photographed the dirks in Dublin Nat museum, Lieden and British Museum (my home town). They overlay with photoshop exactly.. all from peat bogs with there link to mummification?

Not in the same mold/press though. The sword of Jutphaas if for example much smaller than the one from Ommerschans. It is thought they were all made by the same smith or at least in the same workshop. I think the swords are a good example of increasing interconnectivity between Europeans since the introduction of bronze. This interconnectivity can be stretched to the Middle East through other evidence. Some finds of tin ingots from the Middle East are for example chemically shown to come from Western Europe (British Isles).
You are shown alot in your video(videos) and i keep forgetting what it's all about.. Oh ye history, archeology, some of my biggest intressts.(changing back to the right eyes).

I was intrigued by the greek inscription inside the Temple of Taffeh, but while numerous sites quote the same passage that there is a Greek inscription, none I can find give a translation of it. Are you able to enlighten me please :)
Unfortunately i haven't found the translation myself.. if i go back to the museum in the future i will ask around 😉

Ik geloof dat Nederlandse experts mee hielpen met het verplaatsen van Aboe Simbal. Dat anders onder water was komen te staan door het aanleggen van eerder genoemde dam. Als dank kreeg het RMO deze tempel. In Egypte waren meer van dit soort tempels uit de Romeinse tijd en de Egyptenaren vonden dat ze er wel een paar konden missen.
