    One of the best matches between two pen holders i've seen in a long time. Great performance Dang👍👍👍

    penholders are becoming rare these days. They do bring a whole different style to the sport.

    Unbelievable speed that Dang was still somehow able to control better than Felix.

    Felix probably would have won this if he played more on DQ's forehand during the key points . His long serves to Qiu BH earned him quite a few points but you can't do it twice in a row at the end of the sets . The more experienced and decision maker player won at the end . Good lesson for Felix

      I don't think that would've mattered Dang adjust very well and Felix is fast in the end the fact that the balls came slower to Felix saved Dang.

    I have just thought about this penholder pairing yesterday and wished for them to clash and here we go :)
    Dang Qiu's forehand is a lot more powerful, Felix relies more on spin.
    But Felix's backhand has a lot more potential and is already slightly better.
    Qiu is about 10 years older with loads of more experience and stability, this made him the winner.
    It was still so close and the future will change many things.
    Damn.... such a good game, I couldn't stop giggling

      I think it's their third encounter? One Felix won three sets to one in world teams championship and second Qiu won on the fifth i think in a wtt event i can remember which

    I think the camera angle is not vertical enough, just put it right on the ceiling above the table.

    Felix plays a quick game that overwhelms lesser players. The problem is when he plays more consistent players like Dang Qiu. His quick game doesn't overwhelm Qiu, who has excellent control, and the ball comes back strong too. Then Felix, rather than slow down, takes risky shots and misses a fair amount. That costs. He needs to slow down sometimes and just get the ball back onto the table and see if the next ball is better to attack at full speed.

    Traditional pen is and will always be a contender; as long as the speed/power to put it away is there.
    Current era game has slowed down they took away boosting, tuning, and speed glue.
    An athlete with weight training and a powerful blade / rubber combo, top notch physical/mental skills can always be favored if not the dark horse in competitions.
    Also, the bar has been raised for traditional pen backhand.
    Look at He Zhi Wen, he can barely move anymore and he’s a contender. Ryu Seung Min did much better than Qiu Dang did against many players.
    Cazuo Matsumoto can’t move as fast as he ideally could/should, anyway his game is closer to the table blocking, countering with his specialty bh wrist shot.
    I think it’s a matter of population percentages that play the style well enough, let alone compete and are seen on the world stage. There are so many no name players that are very skillful out there.
    Penholders 💥 Bh rubber? Welcome to try. But you don’t need it. Just a different style. You can succeed with one wing as they’ve been doing throughout history. Boost, tune to a legal level or what needs to be done. Weight train build muscle to power the ball, to put it away, full send. Have blistering fast footwork, masterful serves!!
    Im sure people would love to see pen players like that emerge again on the world scene. Very few out there elite class caliber. Real fire to see them play!!!!!

    Really hoped Lebrun to win. Dang Qiu struggles against unfamiliar style. He is incredible this match, and we probably won’t see that again. Where as the Lebrun brothers are always amazing.

  • @benthekeeshond545
    @benthekeeshond545 Před rokem +2

    I think Felix is not used to playing against a penholder. There are not many of them now. I think he made a few more unusual mistakes and 1 or 2 points can alter the outcome of a game or a match.

    • @reinaldopessoa2603
      @reinaldopessoa2603 Před rokem +3

      That has no effect because they aren't treating the ball any different which is why it's a dying breed the only difference between a shakehand and penhold is the grip.
