Yea and it was really bad application using a knife to cut the tape. Instead of taking strips of the tape for the barrel, just getthe tape stuck onto the barrel at 1 point and scroll the tape slowly down whilst pulling the polythene thing and applying the tape as best as possible. For the water hose , just straighten it first then apply the tape not just casually wrap in vertically around with gaps and hoping the tape to hold all the pressure. Really amateur application.

When they stuck the boat back together in the advert, they tape the inside and outside of the boat, what you did with the barrel is only tape the outside
Plus you can see in the advert where Phil cut a hole in the boat that his team applied it with care and precision making sure it was laid on just right.
And they used multiple layers so yeah
And the inside was completely dry
Cleaning the surface would probably help

I used a 3”x3” square to patch a hole in my pool liner. I put it on from the inside, under water and it worked like a charm! It’s been there for two years now and still no leaks. I also used it to patch my sweeper hose together after it split completely in half and it’s been working great for a few months now as well. Great product!

Having used this tape I can vouch for the fact that yes it will stop the leak but temporarily! It is certainly not a permanent fix by any means!

Read the fine print in the commercial. He used three layers of it and let it dry for couple of days.
Its triple thick adhesive virtually welds itself to the surface, instantly stopping the toughest leaks.

You may need it! My friend has a pool that she fills up with her hose, but her hise got a leak. Wanna guess how she fixed it? WITH THE POWER OF FLEX TAPE! It wasnt five holes, it was one, but it was a bit longer and wider, and with two peices, it worked! So you may, who knows!
I tried it on a radiator hose that sprung a leak. Since it was so cramped it was a pain to get on.. as well as get off. The shit is VERY sticky, so I guess there's that. I should have just got the $4 instead of waste $12 on the tape.

For the barrel test/boat test he put flex tape on both sides, this is important bc most of the pressure will be held by the tape that's being pressed by the pressure itself which essentially helps bind the tape to the boat.

Note that the failure point is the same point where you used a seperate piece of tape. I think it would be a better experiment to use one long piece of tape and use tape to line the inside as well

The leaks are coming through creases on the tape that were made when you applied it unevenly. It doesn't matter if you got wakandan vibranium tape, if you apply it wrong then it will always leak. The only real failure on the product's part was when it gave out under the water pressure of the hose and barrel. Besides that, it performed as advertsed.
As with most things in life, good results come with good preparation.
I once fixed a leaking radiator hose on my car with black tape (it was the forrunner of duct tape) It lasted over a week while i waited for my new hose to turn up. I drove the car to work for that whole time & didn't even need to top up the radiator!
Clean the surface properly, put the tape on properly and you might get different results bro.

What preparation did you do to the hose and barrel. Did you clean the area to be taped to insure good adhesion. Also the short tape ends you wrapped around the bottom and then overlayed would become the weak spot.

you have to have the magic slap like Phil for it to work
I could see that the curved areas and the straps around the barrel had gaps in it while applying. It needs to be 100% tight against all areas of the barrel, not just the flat sections.
