Congrats! You must have a home lined up then. Transitions like this can be hard (new place, away from family...) but if you figure along the way that it's really something you want, you'll make it happen. A nice summary, as always. I would amend/update your comments on airports in two ways. First, it only takes a walk-on passenger two hours to get to the Vancouver airport (YVR), not the three to four you suggest. Second, if you expect to do a lot of international travel, you're much better situated on the Sunshine Coast. You'll need to get to YVR in either case, and it's much cheaper and more convenient to do so from Gibsons that from anywhere on Vancouver Island.
Thanks for bringing this up. I should better explained my 3-4 hour timeline.
Travelers are typically tasked with being at the airport 90-120 minutes early. If you live in Victoria, and you're a half-hour from the airport and you need to be at said airport 90 minutes in advance, you can leave home two-ish hours prior to your flight and stay on schedule.
The ferry upends that timing for Sunshine Coasters. We're often faced with deciding between taking a ferry that puts us 90+ minutes ahead of schedule, or 15-ish minutes behind schedule. While it doesn't take us 3-4 hours to travel to the airport, depending on the ferry schedule, Sunshine Coasters might have to invest 3-4 hours in catching a flight compared to a city dweller's 2-hour time investment. And of course, that assumes that the ferry is on schedule as well.
As for international travel, I think it would come down to personal preference and to specific flights. Living on the Sunshine Coast often means that early morning/late night flights often aren't feasible. Personally, I'd find it more convenient to live on Vancouver Island and to be able to catch early morning flights without a staying in a hotel the night before. Same with arriving on a late flight and having to wait until the morning to catch a ferry home. For some travelers, those hotel stays might a feature rather than a bug. đ

Nanaimo has a huge homeless population. SC has some but not as visible as Nanaimo, I was there last week. so sad.

I am looking forward to coming to Sechelt soon and I am skeptical. Is it really a good place to settle down with a family?
We think any place on the Sunshine Coast would be a great place to settle down. But it also really depends on the expectation of each individual family that comes to the Coast.
What are your specific concerns?
@@LiveontheSunshineCoast Well, my concern centres majorly around that fact, I get an impression that it's a rural area.. Then, I would have loved videos of house tours as well as grocery shopping. Also, being a Nigerian, I was worried about having an African store around. Well, I believe these are not really worth worrying about right?
The Sunshine Coast is largely rural. Gibsons (5,000-ish people) and Sechelt (10,000-ish people) are the biggest centres. We don't see a lot of cowboy hats or hay bales but outside of those two towns, a lot of homes are situated on acreages or small farms. There are those that work the land but I think most people just like having a lot of space. If you're looking for a smaller version of Vancouver, the Sunshine Coast isn't it. We don't have freeways and skyscrapers but we also don't have cows wandering through the streets or tractors in line at the drivethru. đ
Go go Google Maps and select the satellite view and you can scan up and down the Sunshine Coast and you'll get a better idea of the towns versus the surrounding area. You can also use the Street View option to "walk" through Sechelt.

HOUSE TOURS AND PHOTOS
Houses are like any place else in Canada. There are studio apartments, mobile homes, bungalows, ranchers, condos, mansions... you name it, we have it. Even if you're not looking to buy, go to Realtor.ca and look at homes for sale on the Sunshine Coast. They'll all have pictures of the properties and some will have videos or 3D tours. Our day job is shooting photos and videos for Realtors so you can also look at our real estate only Instagram page to get an idea of what houses and homes look like on the Sunshine Coast.

GROCERY STORES
The grocery stores on the Sunshine Coast look like neighbourhood-sized grocery stores in a larger city. We don't have HUGE warehouse stores like Superstore or Costco or Walmart. Google has a lot of photos of each store (inside and out).
