My story was I got the notification at 4:19am. I was freaking out because I just moved house and all my belongs were touched by the moving company. I can’t imagine if someone drop this little tag in one of my boxes and track my location all the time. So I got up immediately, and kept tap play sound, after trying a thousand times, finally I found where the sound came from - it came from a cat outside my window 😂

Although this is important for privacy reasons, it kind of kills the ability to locate something someone has stolen from you if the thief learns to scans for AirTags after stealing it.
maybe use other tracker instead only using airtag
Better that then having someone easily follow you with an AirTag, considering that a thief could already just search for AirTag and throw them away
AirTags are more suited for tracking lost items, rather than stolen

because AirTags aren’t supposed to help you find stolen items, only lost ones
So if the a certain thing with airtag you stole, you can deactivate it so owner cant locate it. Kinda off.
cool update! wish they developed a method that lets you track your airpods case and not just the airpods themselves. because I've lost my case before and it was stressful trying to find it.
Just put an AirTag on ur AirPods case, that's what I do
I think the AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro have that feature

Either way, you can just buy a new case if there is no choice. Apple sells a wireless charging case in case you lost the case or switching to wireless.

‘Tracking Notifications’ and the icon for this option used in this video are no where to be found in settings. Why use this term and icon if neither are representative of what’s available to the user?
i feel like a good feature is to be able to reset the airtag that has been tracking you so they cant track you anymore and u get a free airtag that u can use
I think it takes hours to notify someone so using this in your car if it gets stolen can buy you some time since you can hide it good and they wont get notified for a while, could get stalked too but i think more people will use it for stolen things
People can easily stalk you without an AirTag, should get rid of the notification feature and let us use it for tracking stolen items without alerting the thief.
This should include more detailed information on making the required settings. For example, is Time-Sensitive-Notfication setting required (it's not default)
What if a parent places an AirTag in the pocket or the backpack of a child, who then gets abducted? Wouldn't that alert the kidnapper that they are being tracked, if they have an iPhone? Or if you place an AirTag in your car, and it gets stolen? Will it alert the thief?
my girlfriend got a notification that an unknown airtag is moving w her and her phone wouldn't connect in order for us to locate and play the sound. this seems like a big safety hazard, as anyone can attach an airtag to your car or belongings and track you.

Dang I bought an airtag to hide in my car/bike/luggage in the event it ever gets stolen. Guess that's useless. These only help if it's lost. :/ Wish I had seen this video before purchasing haha
What if you attach an airtag to your bag and someone steals your bag. Then cant they just disable its tracking so you wont be able to locate your bag?

I'm hoping you can help. There are a lot of vehicle thefts in our area recently. We just moved a few days ago, and our new home is still in the same general area - just a few minutes away from our last home. Yesterday, I received a notification saying "AirTag found moving with you. The owner of this item can see its location...". I clicked the notification and the details said "First seen with you today at 9:25am". I was home all morning, so that time was odd. I tried the play sound option, but it wouldn't play anything, I believe it said I had to move my phone closer. I searched both our vehicles, but wasn't able to find an AirTag (though I could be missing a spot, as there are so many places it could be hidden). On the find my app, it showed 3 solid lines and 3 dotted lines going to and from my new home and my old home, with the AirTag icon - I took screenshots, and glad I did because later in the evening (and I don't know why this happens every now and then with some notifications, but) all the notifications of the AirTag near me vanished - it wasn't in the drop down notification center, and nothing in the find my app. Vanished like it never happened. Are you able to help me find out for sure if I'm being tracked? I'm wondering if it's in one of our vehicles, as I went back and forth the day prior to move stuff between homes. Thanks in advance.

Many people don't always have location and Bluetooth turned on, so this won't alert everyone.
When I'm driving with my AirTags (attached to my AirPods 2 case) in my pocket I get an alert on my iPhone that I'm being tracked and it lists the last 4 digits of my own phone number. What am I doing wrong?

Useless if you cannot physically find the AirTag- you cannot disable it. Stalkers/car thieves can easily disable the speaker (there’s CZcams’s on this as well). The Bluetooth frequency also changes so if you get the alert at 2am and don’t see it until the morning, it will not allow you to play the sound.
There is one on my vehicle somewhere and Apple refused to help locate it after confirming it was not a glitch.
Mustn’t compromise the privacy of the owner of the air tag that’s using it illegally, eh?

We appreciate wanting to get that item back to the owner. The best step is to turn it in to local law enforcement, this way when the owner is looking for the device and receives the same suggestion they can be reunited.

I literally just got a notification of one. I own zero. I don’t know how long it’s been on. It can track where you are, where you live. Any degenerate can break into my house, steal any of my belongings, hurt my children just because they feel like doing something awful. The fact they did it at all tells me that their intentions are underhanded. And should anything happen I will not hesitate to Sue apple because at no point did I give them permission to allow a stranger to keep up with the whereabouts of me or anything pertaining to my person.

Tracker Detect looks for item trackers within Bluetooth range that are separated from their owner and that are compatible with Apple's Find My network. Great, now the bike thief knows that there’s a tracker on the bike and can locate and disable it. Nice feature
Unfortunately that’s not the use case for an AirTag. I wish they didn’t add this feature because I also use one to track my trailer with a lot of tools in it. But they had too many complaints about people who were tracked without them knowing
I wanted to get one but I heard these things notifies the whole world that there's an AirTag nearby.. no thanks. I don't want people to know I have an AirTag in my backpack. Apple needs to be clear about how it notifies people about the Unknown AirTag alert. Under what circumstances does it trigger the notification?

When I look in 'settings' I see no 'locations services' as you claim here. 0:09 Be more clear on what is in 'settings' and where please. This is deficient.
You can turn bluetooth on and off just under wi-fi in settings...and location services is under 'privacy' in settings. But thanks for your question because it made me realize I missed that detail and had bluetooth etc. turned off.
I put an air tag in my car, it’s really stupid to find that someone else can locate my hidden air tag and can disable it or throw it away. Apple use your brain, use this feature with other products not airtags

I wanted to keep it on my bike to avoid theft, but it seems apple made this for people who just forget things around.
So if I was to place this on a car to rob it and the driver has android he would never know? Perfect 👍
there is an Android app to do just that. Check out the reply from Apple Support a few posts down.
