@@mrtrey7865 does he not talk with chat and play chess at the same time regularly? His level of chess has lots of calculation. IQ tests determine the raw score of someones mental capabilities. Hikaru did not practice this test like he does for chess and if he did then I am sure he would have gotten higher. But hey you are not supposed to do that since that is unfair and would give you an unfair advantage. However you could argue his iq ranges from 102-120

Yes because the whole point of doing an IQ test is to chillout and have some fun :) also i will leave a quote stated by me in my previous comment.
Here is how you can know someone's IQ i will quote one of my statements from a previous comment.
"OFFICIAL IQ tests fall under privacy law, which means unless you are journalist or you see the IQ test report on an OFFICIAL aka nationally approved outlet you "won't" be able to trust any IQ test report.
      ".
In short the easiest way for you to estimate someone's IQ is by calling MESA or any other official institution like MESA and ask them if a x individual is a member
Or you can break the law and bribe a journalist, HR, detective, lawyer etc to get that information for you but chances of You getting into serious trouble are Very High :)
MESA doesn't care about your opinions MESA is a publicly and privately funded instution by the government/taxes and donations.

@D4ed In other words, less intelligent people are going to have a harder time doing tasks that are cognitively demanding. It's quite apparent that there's a correlation, just going by what you've just said. Also, I find it absolutely laughable how you say that my request doesn't make sense. You asked me to find a GM with an IQ of 195 or above. You're saying it makes sense to try to find someone that's 6 SD above the mean, but it doesn't make to find a person that ONE SD below the mean? Going by your own logic, it should be very easy to find a GM with an IQ of 80. However, I think that you're just trying to defend yourself, even when knowing that you're wrong. You would be right in saying that there's no DIRECT correlation, and that someone less cognitively gifted could make up for it with hard work. It's frustrating to talk to you, because you're arguing against something that agrees with both intuition and the overwhelming scientific consensus.

It's far from highly inconceivable that the best chess player in the world would have an average IQ. True, IQ does determine the rate of pattern absorption, but on the other hand, other factors also come into play such as affinity and enthusiasm and in chess primarily the length of exposure to these patterns far outweighs any factor dependent on IQ. Also, he's doing this on a fucking stream with pressure of a live audience and spontaneity of request. To take his real IQ we have to get a certified mensa test and test him under correct conditions. Furthermore, he's undeniably highly intelligent. Grandmaster at age 15 with that being the youngest Grandmaster in American history at that time. Hes number one in the world in blitz chess which requires rapid calculation and awareness of chess. This is just a short demo test. If you want an accurate estimate of your IQ you have to do the test in person, and I have no doubts that Hikaru would score a lot higher if he was to do a full one, with more time. However decent IQ tests always consist of shapes and pattern recognition. If you were to have language puzzles or other kinds of questions there would be way too many variables in terms of education and background. This is why pattern recognition is superior in determining an accurate estimate of cognitive skills without as much of an educational and sosioeconic bias.

The domain of IQ questions doesn't necessarily help you with survival skills for example much how like advanced calculus doesn't necessarily mean you'll be using it daily - and under normal circumstances unlikely. Infact it is useful to not waste mental resources on information that doesn't help you achieve your goals. Your real IQ is determined how well you lived your life up until this point.

That test is inaccurate. For example, some of the questions ask about prime numbers so if you're familiar with them you can answer those questions faster and have more time for the harder questions. Right away, when someone has an unfair advantage, they'll get a higher score: making the test useless.
Edit: also, some of these questions ask about patterns. BUT, some of the greatest questions in life and in numbers have no patterns. Example: pi. So, it just doesn't really test how smart you are. Especially when you start to ask questions about things that have no pattern. Example: advanced quantum physics and abstract mathematics.

@@Sarahbop Whether or not I can solve these problems is irrelevant. I just wanted to provide some more information about IQ tests to anyone who might be interested.
I'd like to clarify a few things: tests of matrix reasoning don't completely not measure general intelligence (g), they just don't measure it well. One might expect a matrix reasoning test like Mensa NO to have a correlation coefficient of around r = .7 with general intelligence. This is a meh correlation, especially when we see that (good) tests of mathematical reasoning and vocabulary have coefficients in the .8+ range.
Composite scores derived from a few tests will oftentimes produce a higher correlation with g than scores on any single one of the tests. For example, vocabulary + math would likely be a better measure of g than either vocabulary or math. Adding matrix reasoning to the mix would likely increase the composite's validity. If you keep adding subtests, you end up with a test that has a correlation coefficient of .9+ with g. A correlation this high is on the level of most professional FSIQ tests.
With that being said, if you want to take an actual decent IQ test for free, I recommend you go to cognitivemetrics dot co and take the AGCT. It was an actual IQ test used by the US army during WWII and it has a correlation of .92 or so with g.

The test is not "dogshit", to be strong and good at chess you only need memory and concentration plus a lot of training (the elite of chess have like 10, 20 or 30 years of chess playing behind them), so they have a good memory, but since memory is correlated to IQ with only 0.60 it means you can have a big memory but an average IQ, Raven Matrix measure Logical abilities only, that's it.
But for the defense of Hikaru, i would say he could have got 105 or 110 to the IQ test with less pressure, and if he saw he had only 25 min to answer the 35 questions, even he was slow to answer the question at the start, in the middle he throwed 2 or 3 bad answer because he said "i dont have time", everyone doesnt have time and still we can make good score, the fact is about taking the time to give good answer to the first 25 questions then its fine for the last 10, anyway if he redo it in good condition i guess he can get a max of 110 IQ which is good, but since the first test give the real estimation of his IQ he might really have 102 (but don't forget the standard deviation of 15 which mean he could have less or more than that), its a little more than average so its OK, i mean 102 IQ is fine, even Kasparov was only 135 IQ and you dont need a huge IQ to play chess and be good at it.

most people in comment section are arguing on if iq is relevant in playing chess. Being a neurosurgeon intern i say yess! high iq is relevant in chess a nd most game if not all games but more so in chess. The average iq requirement to play chess at the top most level is 130 which is a little short of genius which is actually 140. For other sports like football and most of the remaining games its actually 110 to play like a pro of cause this coupled with alot of training to engrain memory in your muscle. This is similar with chess also ...take for example two persons with a rating of 130. They both learn the laws of the game and the basic moves but 1st player trains harder than the 2nd player. Its obvious the 1st player would win because he is accustomed to the mental gruelling of the game as opposed to player number 2, also he is less likely to blunder miss a winning move or even play a bad move also while he is more likely to spot the winning move , the best moves , and spot mistakes in players number 2's development of pieces. Iq is a really complicated analogy in regards to sports that whole books are written just to explain this. Chess is known to improve players iq after playing the game for long enough and seeing the logic behind certain moves and patterns,, but ifeel like it cant develop your iq beyond the threshold 130 for obvious reasons ie; at 130 you probably already know the logic behind every move and you've analysed almost all possible kinds of play in the game. Now to finish; what separates most players and distributes the grand master title over a long range of Iqs "110 - 190" is actually the devotion different players have to the game. On issue of memory id say the higher the memory the higher the iq because memory is simply based on pattern recognition so its pretty stupid to say being good at chess is simply having a good memory. Of cause it helps ( a lot in fact) but it goes hand in hand with IQ.

At least reading left to right I cant really discern a pattern to either of the first 2 rows. And then for the third row just intuitively it doesn’t feel like theres enough information to deduce a pattern. When I actually took my real IQ tests this was only a feeling I experienced for the last question (they ramp up in difficulty). Am Inmissing something?
