  • It's Labor Day Monday (September 2) and the boat is coming out of the lake for the winter so today is my last chance to take you guys all for a ride. Since all of you won't fit in the boat at the same time you're going to have to take your ride via video. Bon Voyage!

    I just inherited one of these boats from my in-laws and have done a lot of fishing through the years on the great lake in it when he was alive. Great boat and cant wait to see if I can get it back on the water in good running condition. The one we have is a Horizon 190 Great video!

      Is the Detroit River 2 choppy for this boat?

      @@DETROIT711 this boat would be great on the Detroit river. I have been in the middle of Lake Michigan steelhead fishing in it. My wife needs to get the boat registered in her name so we can get the new tags for it.

    Grew up with this exact same boat in blue. Sold it to a friend and hoping to get it back someday.

    Great boat you've got there, Brother. I dig it! She came up real nice and fast. Smooth too, once you lowered the lower-unit. I've got a 2005 Caravelle Bow-Rider (21 Ft) that acts exactly like this one. I drop it all the way down, and she comes right up. Then I bring the trim up according to the conditions - but usually just to about the 1/8 mark. Somewhere in there. Anyway - fun vid, and I love your boat. Four Winns has always made a really ice boat. And you just flat can't beat the Mercruiser!

      Thanks. It just had to have the steering replaced as it totally locked up. Boy does it steer easy now. You can drive it with your little finger. It does have a hesitation accelerating if you punch it but if you bring it up slow and smooth it's good. For being 35 years old I can't complain.

      jerald chavez I bought an 86 and love it I’m looking to see if I can take it on Lake Michigan in Chicago. It’s a great, reliable boat

      @@bowhunterd2407 Cool ! Hey - let us know how you're doing with the new boat. How's she runnin' ? You got it ready to roll yet, and had it out?

    • @bowhunterd2407

      @@jimmyz2098 Yup had her out a few times. Love it. I am getting some water in the lower unit, and fluid level is dropping. I'm hoping if I watch it closely and change fluid pretty much every time I use it I can nurse it through the rest of the season, probably won't have it out too many more times. Tear it apart this winter. Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this. I'm new to the world of I/O and will be doing all of the work myself. Not gonna spend big money at a boat shop on a boat this old, even though it's in extremely good condition for it's age. Please weigh in everyone, I want to learn from you all!!

    • @bowhunterd2407
      @bowhunterd2407 Před 3 lety

      Correction on the above, not losing fluid just gaining a small amount of water. Pretty minimal amount, but it’s definitely there.

    Is that that sweet Mercruiser 3.7 liter four banger? Sure sounds like it!! I have it's predecessor the 4.1 liter straight six with the first gen Mercruiser "Stern Drive" in my 17' 76 Apollo Tri Star. It's an awesome, reliable and fairly fuel friendly set up but that 3.7 with the Alpha One is my favorite Mercruiser engine/outdrive combo!! My parents had an 87 Bluewater 18 foot open bow with that 3.7 growing up. I don't ever remember that boat stranding us or breaking down at all except it went through starters til my dad put a starter for a 460 V8 in it. That 3.7 is literally half of a 460.

    I just bought the same boat for a $1. Mine is an 1989 190 horizon with a4 4.3. Soon to find out what it needs to be fixed other than the rotten floor.

    She actually runs! Nice. How many RPMs does that thing pull at cruising speed? Sounds like every other 4 cylinder I know, screaming it's head off.

    • @tallboyyyy
      @tallboyyyy  Před 5 lety +2

      Cruising speed is around 3200-3500 rpm. That would be the same even if it was a V8. All stern drive boats tend to cruise in that range no matter what engine they have.

    • @tallboyyyy
      @tallboyyyy  Před 4 lety +2

      Mine came with the boat. I have 2 covers for the cockpit and one for the bow. I think whoever owned the boat before me had the ones that are on it custom made for it. The other one I have is in shabbier condition and I think it is the original one from Four Winns when the boat was new.

    I have the same exact boat. I got no power in the boat. I turn the key and nothing at all. I put new battery, new ignition switch, new solenoid. I feel like its a simple issue like a wire or something.

    • @tallboyyyy
      @tallboyyyy  Před 2 lety

      Mine has hookups for 2 batteries and a switch on the left side of the transom that selects which battery to use. You need to lift the rear seat back up on it's hinge to see it. It may be set to the wrong battery or is in the off position.
