  • With my 2019 Honda CB500X approaching five years old, having carefully modified over the years to meet my travel and camping needs, I thought it was time to show all the modifications in one video.
    Almost all the modifications have separate videos which can be found here:

    I’ve watched a fair few owners reviews of the cb500x, this is by far the best I’ve seen. Excellent detail with logical reasoning, if no one already has, I call first dips 😄👍

    Thanks for this video. The CB500x is a massively underrated bike. I have the same year as yours and for me the top mods are Barkbusters, grip puppies, Oxford heated grips, Givi outback trekker 42 litre top box and detachable luggage side rails.

    Nice review. I have a Rally Raided 2017, with 83,000 miles on it. Agree with the powder coat issue, Just got the sump guard and racks blasted, galvanized, and powder coated as the original paint didn't last long.

    • @thecampingbiker791
      @thecampingbiker791  Před 4 měsíci

      I believe RR have now changed their powder coating company, they had to as original was rubbish…just had my sump guard off for powder coating, like the idea of galvanizing it! Thanks for watching 👍🏻

    Thanks Andrew, totally agree about the rubbish original powder coating on RR metal as mine are just a little older than yours and are flaking on every sharp corner. For the price I would of expected it to be better. Saying that I would definitely get again as they do offer excellent protection and fit well with my reckless 80 v2 luggage. Do use some. Crash Bar bags as it provides me better kit distribution and a bit of wind protection. Keep up the great work mate.

    • @thecampingbiker791
      @thecampingbiker791  Před 5 měsíci

      Yep, very poor quality control from RR! As they use an external company for powder coating I’d have changed supplier if it was me. But maybe they think we’ll still buy them regardless.. and as we’ve both said ‘we would’ 😬 👍🏻

    Nice overview of useful mods. Love the tool tubes. I had 1 of those reflector lights on my old CB500 & people always commented on it. I saw on your other vid you're reluctant to get rid. I had my old one for 12 years & I couldn't bear to see it sold while the others came & went. Alas, an electrical fault saw my shed with both bikes (& all tools) killed in a fire.
    I'm considering getting a CB500x & wondering if a smaller rear sprocket might help with motorway vibrations. Could be worth a try.

      Thanks…. Yep, the tool tubes are an excellent mod as are the reflector lights…. Shame about loosing a favourite bike as you did, the CB500X would be a good choice for you I think… although others change the sprocket, and with good feedback, I choose to leave standard to keep low end grunt, but can’t go wrong with either choice!

    The rear tyre is a 150/70 b 17, right?
    Do you need some documents to allow you to switch from 160/60r17 to these?

      Thanks Robert, appreciate you watching the video!
      Yes, the tyre is 150/70/17 and didn’t need any additional action/docs....indeed my Honda dealership fitted the first set, this being my second, the first having been changed at 11k but with some mileage left in them!
      They suit the bike well, particularly if going on any trails… I wouldn’t be without them and as I’m sure you’ll be aware an awesome tyre!
      There’s a series of videos on the first set with a review every 1k through until 11k change and the bike is a very good all round motorcycle of the smaller capacity..

    A couple of questions if I may - do you have to refit the rear passenger pegs prior to MOT inspection? Also, I see you have removed the snail horn that you fitted - was there a particular reason or just that you didn't like the aesthetic? Cheers.

    • @thecampingbiker791
      @thecampingbiker791  Před 5 měsíci +1

      No, don’t need to refit rear pegs for mot in UK, if not fitted no need to check them. Only reason I took it off was to relocate it as felt it was a bit in the way…but I can be a bit lazy so haven’t done that as needed to remove crash bars and fairing panels to figure a new location 😂

      @thecampingbiker791  Před 4 měsíci

      Hi Peter, I’ve owned it since late 2019 and done 23k miles on it, although for first couple of years I had two other bikes I was also using, and had no faults or recalls, simply serviced as scheduled.
      During that 23k I’ve gone through two sets of tyres, onto my third now, one chain set and one pair rear break pads.
      It’s a very nice bike to ride and for me the power, particularly low down grunt, is excellent for the typical roads you have in Scotland, lacking a bit on motorways if wanting to travel at speed but more than capable of cruising all day at legal speeds, but I personally think it would be underpowered for two up plus luggage touring.
      Having extra power would be nice but this is a fantastic value bike with dedicated following and regularly returns 80+ mpg.. did it mention its so reliable 😆
      Love riding and camping in Scotland, where do you live?
