This video was crazy and ridiculously fun to make. Somewhere Over The Rainbow is a beautiful song that I have heard countless times growing up. I wanted to cover it in some sort of tropical/island setting to pay homage to the late Israel K.'s version. After arranging the song and experimenting with some different recording configurations, I found a setup that would allow me to go up in a parasail and record the audio and video live! I met up with the local parasail folks and went up for a few takes!
10/10 would do it again.

reminds me of the beach called Dawis Beach where Mom and Dad would always bring me and my brother to, in our province....
It was where i realized i was me ...
i was like 4 years old or so ....
i realized how hard it was to squeeze the hand brake of the toy car i was riding on, and how fragile my hands were compared to my uncles' ...
i got off from the toy car, and walked across the sands towards the beach...
i discovered that my shadows always followed me ...
the warm sand, sometimes cozy and cold sometimes hot ....
discovered i make footsteps on the wet sands behind me and how amazing my little footsteps were and i could make it how ever long it was ...
then glanced little further behind me, was Mom following me all along with a smile on her face...
seeing i was discovering how wonderful life is...

I was convinced it was lip-synched until they blew the horn.
Where does the horde happen? There’s no wind sound coming through the microphone, so I’m thinking it’s definitely lip syncing.
I see what looks like a small microphone clipped to his shirt collar, but why is there no wind noise?
@@davidbrucemusicvideo2:53 Boat horn blares. Chase is wearing a livelier microphone, I’m assuming with a windscreen.
@@hippopotamusbosch I still have a feeling he is lip syncing, because at 03:00 you can suddenly hear the wind noise as he’s laughing. And he isn’t even traveling as fast through the air as he was when he was in the air.
I looked at his microphone, and I don’t see a wind screen, so the whole thing is interesting.
@@davidbrucemusicvideo he said in post processing he removed some wind noise frequencies. Maybe he only did this during the song itself?

I have a studio in my home, and I have no understanding of how to remove wind noise in post, and then keep the vocal part pristine. I’ve never heard of such a thing.

Thanks for the kindness! Honestly, overdubbing it would've been far harder for me. I'm terrible at overdubbing. That's why I've only ever done it for one video on the channel. It's awesome, but not my thing!

...so how did you manage the audio quality? Wasn't there a metric fuckton of wind and interference while flying?

The audio was tricky! I had a Zoom F3 Recorder strapped to my belt. I ran the guitarlele directly into the recorder. I also ran a lavalier microphone up my shirt clipped to the inside. My buddy Joey also gave me a couple mini windscreens to put on the lav mic to diffuse the wind. That tamed most of the wind noises.
In post, I cut any frequencies where the wind plosives were prominent. Aside from that, I added the backing vocals in post!
It's suprisingly calm and quiet up there. It's not a fast-paced activity.
