    Bowie was charming and totally engaging in this clip. However his talking about drugs and the kinds of 'special' creative people who are drawn to the life of addicts is utter bollocks. For every one Iggy, Bowie or Cobain you have millions of ordinary folks who create nothing of value whilst living repetitive, unproductive, ordinary, squalid lives after getting lured into drugs and vapid social scenes for a variety of mental health reasons and personality issues and then see themselves devolve into..well, it's not kind to say. People like Bowie are artistic legends and pop culture icons for a multitude of reasons. It's very sad that drugs will always been linked to creative genius and thus, will always seem like a gateway or part of the romantic package for these wannabe 'special' creative personalities. The allure is the tragedy but I think it will be this way for a great many decades to come. Redefining 'coolness' and devaluing danger-seeking in youth...good luck.

  • @ianturton4976

      "I certainly had a personality crisis because of the catastrophe of drugs addiction and its aftermath.
      I used to slip easily into deep, deep depressions, really manically depressed. I’d then swing the other way and become incredibly euphoric. I wasn’t in control of it at all. I often get pangs of isolation and all that, particularly in the very early morning, but it doesn’t haunt me as such any more.
      I was a kid that loved being in my room reading books and entertaining ideas. I lived a lot in my imagination. It was a real effort to become a social animal. That’s why I loved drugs so much. On drugs, once you started talking you never stopped - whether there was anybody with you or not! And you’d wake up with a very sore jaw.
      Now I don’t have a problem going to dinner with people. I always refused before, because I didn’t know what to say and I didn’t think I was terribly interesting." -- bowie

    Great music that period but you cant make me believe that Bowie ever straightened up before the mid to late 1990's if that. There is just no way. And each to their own. He disappeared after his heart attack in 2004 and never toured again... It was certainly something worse than just a heart attack. Then liver cancer. As i said each to their own.
    Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence.

    • @louise_rose
      @louise_rose Před 9 měsíci

      No, I think he felt that the heart attack was a warning he had better heed - also, he had been touring and recording for all of his adult life at that point. He was near sixty, likely he felt that it was time to wind down a bit. Touring with your music and a stage show that way is as demanding and energetic as directing a big movie, it really takes a toll.
