    I love my Mccord pond. Got it free from neighbors! They had it over 10 years. Most of that it was unused and neglected. I pulled it out and it is still in great shape and very usable. I am looking to expand on it. The hardest part was digging the hole so it was ground level and getting it level.

    He is worried about water evaporating from the pond onto the wood of the house in open air, so he creates a small space next to the wood that will reduce ventilation and trap moisture. What a great idea.

      At the end they release Sarassa Comets! Way to small a pond for them. Way yonder too small a filter. I started with a frog pond. Got an accidental comet with a water lily I bought. So I bought him a buddy. Noticed a few tiny fish but everyone said the adults would eat the babies. Fast forward a few years and every fall we were digging the pond bigger. But it got to the point I couldn’t keep up with the water quality anymore so I had to find someone to take my fish. All 193 of them. I’d still like a small frog pond and maybe I will. But no more fish.

    I saw lots of comments praising and criticizing the pond. What are your thoughts on covering the pond liner -- does it need to be 100% covered to make it look more natural? If so, with rock or plants? Do you think the pond should have been at a corner in the yard rather than flush to the house wall? would appreciate responses from those whose criticized the pond. Thanks!

    You could have just sunk the preformed pond flush to ground level. But then you wouldn't of had an excuse to spend $1,500 plus on the sponsor's products of brick, stones, adhesive, mulch, and whatever else to jack the price up on this project. It doesn't look very natural hiked up like that anyway.

    • @TobyCreates
      @TobyCreates Před 4 lety

      James Delnort it was obviously not their intention to make it look natural. If they wanted a natural pond they wouldn’t have made it this way

    • @Stormsteed
      @Stormsteed Před 4 lety +1

      I have a raised pond and it has the same advantages as a raised garden bed: Less bending to attend to the plants and water. Plus, you get nice and close to see the aquatic interests in the pond (fish). And perhaps people with small yards don’t want the problem of what to do with all that soil you need to excavate in order to submerge the entire pond. A 100 gal pond is more than 14 cubic feet of soil, plus you’ll want to dig out extra so you have enough clearance to properly set the pond around the sides at the bottom which they did with gravel in the video.

    • @blessedarmadillo8257
      @blessedarmadillo8257 Před 2 lety +1

      Exactly. It's apparently a good example of how to do things the hard way. Turn the liner over on the ground, mark its outline and dig accordingly.

    • @jonathanhart869
      @jonathanhart869 Před 8 lety

      Plants aren't a substitute for a UV sterilizer, although they can have a beneficial impact on biological filtration. But plants can only use up excess nutrients effectively and maintain water quality when the proper plant species are chosen, care requirements are met for each species, and the pond is understocked with fish. I see the purpose of the video being how to make an attractive water feature in your backyard, not how to make an outdoor pond for goldfish. Additional filtration, more space, and more water is needed for long term health of the fish, period.
