Flying into Colorado in September 2014 for a Firefighter memorial , we hit some GNARLY turbulence and lost about 4500’ of altitude in an absurdly brief period. First time I’ve ever experienced legit negative G’s. Not gonna lie, I MAY have left my fingerprints on the headrest in front of me. Dude sitting next to me didn’t even look up from his book. Then the motherfucker starts to giggle at the other 90 or so passenger’s reactions. We level out, everyone is safe and he’s still laughing at all of the tough firemen who looked terrified. I asked the guy “what the Hell man? Not even a little nervous? Nothing??” He says “bro…I fly B-52s. You don’t get scared until *I* get scared, deal?” DEAL! Homeboy was on our flight back to Florida a week later. We’ve stayed in touch ever since.

when i was in the army we were on our way home from Bosnia. I was asleep and woke to a boom, our plane got hit by lightning. Some of the biggest guys were making all kinds of noise. Im like well if were gonna go down shut up so we can at least go in peace. Wasn't bad though. We had to make a landing in Ireland so they could fix something on the plane. So we got a unexpected night in Ireland, which was extremely cool.

I'm from Albany, so right off the bat thanks for pronouncing the city name correctly. Also, I've been in turbulence like that coming out of Dallas into Atlanta. Jesus Christ. My row mate was doing this and I had to look him dead in his eyes "buddy calm down. Look at the staff. Do they look freaked out? No they're sitting down and bullshitting. Laughing. That's how you know we're fine. Always look at the staff. If they're not scared, you can calm down". Find out he's a 1st time flyer and legitimately thought he was going to die. This being a tiny as two seats to the row plane made every bump feel like a mountain. So in one hand, yeah, I get it. But at the same time, you're a grown ass adult, show some god damn grace under pressure.

I was on a flight into Hilton Head one year, very small plane. It was stormy and we were coming in for a landing, a very turbulent one. It was like a rollercoaster, and people all around me started to scream, so by the third trip up the rollercoaster I threw my arms up in the air and yelled really loudly “ weeeeeeeee!!!!”. Everyone shut up for a few seconds and then started laughing, and then we landed without any more screaming. The Flight Attendant said thank you when I left. 😂

I holding on to dear life to my kid, pushing her down, thank god we were just from the bathroom and buckled up. I was looking around, everybody was scared, just breathing loud. My kid thought it was a roller-coaster and a part of the program, she was hooraying there. But what made it really scary is an older woman behind me started screaming JESUS JEEESUUUS JEEEEESUUUUUS

My scared flying story: flying out of Valdez Alaska, heard something hit the side of the plane, hard! Years later I learned that it was ice that had built up on the prop and flew off hitting the side of the plane. I was white knuckle holding on tight all the way to Anchorage.
I've been on 'this' tin can turbo-prop flight. Newark to Albany, final connection. 40 degree temp difference and WWII flack avoidance level turbulence. No, I wasn't that guy - but I was inside! ; )
And all the women clapped in that audience saying "he should be a man" which answers our question that they do depend on us even in uncontrollable situations 😂😂😅
