I Love the idea of a sims 4 build-along series, Kayla can be our Bob Ross
Yeah! Please, do a build along series
Yeeesss!
I agree. I really want one for community lots
We'll just put a happy little fire toilet here!
yeeees
in my head i think my houses are great. in reality they are minecraft dirt huts. i needed this video ty😍
Same
When I start a minecraft, instead of trying to find a village or finding sheep to get wool, craft a bed to skip the night. I just dig a 1 block wide 3 block deep hole to wait out the night.
Love that 😍
Lol
@@King.of.Battleships me too😂😂😂
Also, knowing the minimum room sizes helps. A bathroom fits in a 2×3, a double bed fits in a 4×4, a living room 5×6 etc.
You can commit more shenanigans in bathrooms than you'd expect if you have Snowy Escape or Discover University. The smallest I've seen is 3×1 because those packs have a shower that your sim can walk through.
@@lumindoesvideos oh yes. I was saying 2×3 for a family house. Bathtub/shower combo, sink and toilet
@@3lli0 that's definitely the smallest one that would make sense in a real house or for a house with a family. I have what would easily be a 2×3 bathroom in real life. It's not ideal but it's functional.
But it's funny to think that the true smallest is 3×1 but that requires you to ignore toddlers and pets.
Wow this is a great tip. Thank you.
@nikeviaplays welcome
The fact you are doing a build along and doing it just base game so everyone can do it is so amazing. A lot of big simmers don’t put in a lot of effort to make sure everyone feels included. They use a million different packs and don’t explain the cheats and everything. We love you Kayla! ❤❤❤
we are 10 years into sims 4. the fact that kayla still does only base game or base game + 1 pack 80% of the time is annoying. by now most simmers are exploring their options and building to tend to their creativity and sharing their tips. we should be past posting “base game build under 20k” every other week
@abrisc32 if you find it that annoying then just go watch all the other simmers who do everything you outlined. I'm new to the sims, and as much as I love crazy expensive builds with lots different packs (which Kayla also does) because of the entertainment value, I really appreciate that there are simmers who still try to keep things simple and accesible. It makes it easier for me to get into the game. There's literally nothing wrong with having both. And like you said, MOST people aren't limiting themselves, so why complain about the few people who are? Does everyone need to approach the sims in the exact same way, or make the same kinds of content? Obviously, no. 'We should be past' - no, you and a lot of people are past it. But many people clearly aren't, hence the original comment thanking Kayla, and the many viewers who return every day.
There is nothing wrong with approaching the sims in different ways. It's weird to try and get a creator to adhere to a standard you have created. Just watch someone else if you don't like it. No one is forcing you watch videos you think are boring or annoying.
@@Lisa_Flowers you spent way too much time on this response lol
@@abrisc32 I think it’s funny that you say this because lilsimsie does a good number of builds where she uses a larger number of packs/fun floor plan/creative build etc. They have SO MANY different sims creators here on CZcams and they all do different stuff. If you want some simmers who maybe do more eccentric builds I recommend CarynandConnieGaming, SydMac, and FakeGamerGirl. The Sims community is a large community. So instead of hating on lilsimsie for what she doesn’t do, find a different sims CZcamsr who does what you want to see!
@@abrisc32 packs are expensive and not everyone has the luxury of owning every single pack. Kayla has plenty of builds that use multiple packs and honestly doesn’t have that many that are just base game. If you don’t like it go watch other simmers. Sorry she’s trying to be inclusive for everyone
Since the very first The Sims, I’ve used graph paper to pre-plan my builds. In 20+ years, I have filled three graph pads, and started my fourth as of 2023. It’s fun to go back and look at forgotten, or favourite, builds.
As an art kid this makes my soul happy 💙
oh man, im wishing i did this back during sims 3 when you couldnt adjust the foundation after you put the room down. so many hours wasted writing down room sizes before bulldozing the whole build and re-placing everything WITH foundations.
Your "builder's bible" series made such a big difference when I was just learning. And my daughter, who is 10, says "build a box, then make it fancy" all the time!
Just wanted to say that it’s so sweet that you got your daughter in on it, I got introduced to it through my sim-loving parents too!
You can translate a floorplan by dividing the size of the room by 2.5 and rounding the result. That does a fairly good job of translating real-life room sizes to sims tiles.
Literally screenshotted this comment to use for future builds 😅
Another thing I found helpful for scaling is to look at what you are referencing and find either a window or a door that exists in the game that is similar to what you are trying to copy on the house. Use that as a scale reference and "count" the spacing using the window or door. I usually opt for a window. You can generally guess the size of a room based on how many "windows" fit on a wall. This works great for smaller houses, but its more complicated for larger houses because in real life windows can be all sorts of sizes and in the sims, most windows are 1 or 2 tiles (sometimes 3) so the scaling gets weirder with larger houses. But its still helpful if you want to make things as close to the picture as possible imo
Yeah, I do that a lot as well. Counting kitchen counters and appliances is also helpful as well, since they're basically 1:1.
OMG THANK YOU!!! This will be so useful to know for my future builds🙏
It would be really cool if maybe you made this like a mini series and showed how to build different style houses. Like maybe a big Victorian house and that can also be a way to show how to use rounded/hexagonal walls since a lot of them have a spire in the front. It could also be a way to use one pack at a time i.e generations/craftsman style, vampires/Victorian, snowy escape/japanese style.
oooo yes this is a great idea
id love to see like how to use the weird hexagonal roofing because oh my is it annoying
the fact ive been watching kayak for so long ive seen her improve these 'how to build' vids :')
"kayak" 😭
Same! I remember watching the og builders bible when it was released.
gotta love Kayak
Kayak instead of Kayla is one of the funniest autocorrect moments I've seen in a while.
Kayak the 13 year old makes great build tutorials
I've just now gotten into building in this game! I've been making different saves, one where I renovate every lot, one where I build every lot myself, etc. Wonderful timing
A good guide to converting IRL floor plans to TS4 (or any Sims game honestly) is to divide the measurements by 3. Tiles in the Sims are approximately 1 meter square, so that's a good rule to follow.
I almost exclusively convert IRL floorplans so I'm very comfortable with the concepts. You can find some of my work on the gallery under the same username as here.
Another good tip is starting by building the obvious rooms like the 2x3 bathrooms. When you have those as reference, building the rooms around them becomes easier when calculations are wonky.
As someone who always uses floorplans too my personal tips is to use the beds. I check how many times a bed would fit in a bedroom and/or amount of space around it and base the rest of the house around the size of said bedroom. But I have done this so often nowadays I usually tweak it to my needs, a tile bigger or smaller depending on what I want to put in the room and then adjust the rest so it doesnt look out of place.
kayla needs a bob ross type series where it’s just building with her lol happy little trees still apply
I really needed this video. I have a learning disability and have a hard time trying to figure out houses in the game. This step by step tutorial really helped me and didn’t give me anxiety like I usually get trying to build a house! Thanks Kayla! 😊
Today I started making a retirement home and I impressed myself cos I just randomly put down rooms and it looks kinda halfway decent!! I knew I wanted a courtyard or some garden space and then of course the kitchen, community room for coffee and board games, and a lobby.
I hope this gives me more motivation to get back into building
Toturial for the Playstation:
Cheat window: press L1+R1+L2+R2
To free place: press L2 like 3 or 4 times
For free rotate: press L1+R1
To make somthing bigger or smaler: press L2+R2 and press the arrow keys on the left side for smaler and the right side for bigger
To make somthing to level down or high: open the cheat window and close it again and then press the arrow keys up and down (sometimes it works and sometimes not )
Hope u can understand i can help u have a nice day 💜
What is shift on PlayStation controls?
@@Simscatscoffee i think it might be the square button
@@chrispy2000s thank you!!!!!!!!
Do you know how i can get the outside floor ? I can never find that option on ps5
@@justme1106 what do u mean with the outside floor 😅
This was super helpful, particularly in the spots where you added character to the home by adding bump ins inside and bump outs outside, as well as the roof and corner trim additions. That is where I tend to struggle the most - my builds lack character and look a bit boxy/plain.
just wanna say i’m in love with the longer form videos kayla’s been doing recently 🥰
You can add a chimney too, to break up roofs. It's less fiddly than separate roof pieces
So helpful! Roofing is enemy#1 😂. I would love to see you do a Tudor and Victorian style basics next. Sometimes the hard part is getting things to translate into the sims.
Simsie is the queen of roofing in the Sims 4
Roofing is where I constantly struggle. I deeply miss auto-roof.
Cant wait to build a blue suburban 🔥
I often find myself really good at building rooms but NOT houses, I struggle to connect them in a way I want while also making the shape of the house I want
In all my years playing the game I have never built a house in Sims 4 that wasn't just a rectangle with rooms and a roof. My husband recently got into the game after watching me play it and while I was able to answer most of his questions regarding the game, I was lost when it came to building. We watched this video together, and I have to thank you for all of your tips and demonstrations. I especially appreciate the tip about looking up houses online and finding the floor plan. This past weekend, I found a house floor plan that I really liked and put your advice to use! While it is not an exact replica of the floor plan I found, the build I made is very much inspired by it. As I said before, my builds before this were kind of like a bento box in house form. But this one...I am really proud of it! It's not anything extravagant, but it is unique and looks like something that I would want to live in myself if I could afford it! Now, I just need to practice making two story houses.
Thank you for saving my shoe box builds Kayla 💕
OMG, I loved this!! I really struggle with a general shape and floor plan when I'm building (roofs and landscaping are a nightmare, honestly) so this was super useful and fun. I would love if you do some more “Build with me” type of videos….maybe one “Build with me” live someday? It would be super cool!! Thank you
Omg this video coming up as I’m trying to renovate the hounds head lot in brindleton bay is such a life saver 🎉
Kayla you haven’t built a blue suburban in months. You’ve lost yourself. Please build another blue suburban. I miss it. I see blue suburbans in my dreams.
😂😂😂
I've been lacking motivation lately building in the sims and this video is a godsend🤩 Thank you Kayla!!!
Absolutely LOVED this. I always have issues with roof placement. The way you did this like a build together was perfect. The pace and how you showed us how to follow the floor plan was very helpful. You definitely have to do more of these. I followed along and made the house with my own touches. I'll be uploading as soon as I decorate the inside. Thanks!
This was hands down one of my top 3 favorite videos. Incredibly helpful. So easy to follow it makes the building process feel SO manageable. And the amount of ideas you gave makes it easy to practice the same shell multiple times so you don’t have to think of something original every single time!! And you’re very an encouraging and thoughtful teacher. Like I can not say enough good things about this. Thank you!! Please make more! You are the reason I have manage to overcome the overwhelm of building and grown as a player ❤
Literally just got sims, this couldn't have come at a more amazing time. Thank you!!
I like these kinds of build-with-me videos! Its relaxing to watch, even if I don’t build anything.
Love the build alongs! I also LOVE having an empty shell to download and then furnish for our individual sims.
Big yes to this type of video series!! Maybe go through the different worlds and show us how to build different styles using only base game and that particular pack 🙏🏻
YES to more tutorial builds!!!!! I've learned a bit from just watching your vids and streams... but specific videos like this helps a ton!
been loving the longer videos recently!! we get a lot more of your process which is helpful!
it’s so nice that kayla took the time to go step by step and slowly show her building process. i haven’t been playing the sims that much lately but i bet this is gonna be helpful to lots of people!
This was genuinely really fun to build along with you. I would love more videos like this!!
honestly, you're the reason I really started trying to build more often, Kayla
This was SO helpful. Your streams and other videos have been helpful, too. But this long format "tutorial" is awesome. I feel a lot more confident going forward so thank you!
I would love another tutorial video for furnishing a house - I really struggle with color schemes and knowing what looks best together
I APPRECIATE THIS VIDEO !! I struggled with roofing SO MUCH. It always seemed to look so awkward to me, so thank you for this video! I'd love to eventually see a video on the terrain tools as well :)
I love this tutorial style video! I always have problems with the floor plan when I build a house so this was super helpful!!
i am obsessed with the build alongs! they are so fun and helpful!!! i would love for u to continue kayla
I just wanted to say that I'd loved seeing someone post a tutorial on how to build on the sims when I was a beginner. I think the video was really useful for those who want to experiment a bit more and build. I'd like to see more of this type of content, especially because I've always enjoyed your building and furnishing style.
I started building as you explained in your tutorials years ago and it's still the best method for me. Thanks to you building became really fun
This genuinely helped me (: And I only have the base game, get to work and cats and dogs so I would love to see builds using those packs❤️
This was so helpful! I would have never thought to use the wall prices as a measuring tool/build-along guide, but that's so smart OMG. I'd love a build-along series, especially if they're themed? Like, how to build a farm house/horse farm, how to build a cottage, how to build a residential rental/apartment complex/duplex etc. etc.! Builds that have different requirements/functionalities within packs kinda thing!
I found this so helpful and hope you do more of them! I find starting builds from scratch overwhelming and figuring out the roof is a nightmare. My house turned out so beautiful!
I've been wanting to learn more about building recently so this video is very helpful! I've been downloading some of your previous builds too haha. But having more tips and tricks is so helpful! I am on ps4 but I've learn so much from you already. I would definitely love more building related videos! 😍
This was awesome. Roofing is probably where I struggle the most when making my houses. So these little tips and showing how they're done was perfect!
hands down the best person at build how-tos - learned all my skills from her
I have been playing sims for like two years now almost religiously and I get into funks with building so these tutorials are a great for everyone! Love your building style, and I would love to see like an interior decoration tutorial or something!!
I loooooved this video and hearing your live thought process. Definitely gave me some good ideas and new things to try!
Thank you for sharing this information in this video. I’m trying to start to build in my game. I appreciate this so much. Thank you for slowing down this video and showing step by step instructions on how to build. You’re Awesome!
Great build! I love that I learn something new every time I watch your videos. Would love to see an Island Living build, I always struggle trying to build beachy homes.
Thank you Kayla. I watched this and built at the same time, following your instructions for the structure of the house and although I'm nowhere near as good as you, I didn't do too bad. I'll let you see it once I've done the terrain paint and stuff. This was easy to follow, thank you. Since I built step by step, it took more than a day to get through the video but I wanted to build as I watched so I could go along. I like kind of hands on stuff because I'm more likely to remember it. lol. Been a very long time since I've built anything but now I know different things to do. I'd love more stuff like this.
Great in-depth tutorial! I like how people can also download it and decorate the interior like you used to do
Loved this! I was thinking just the other day while getting frustrated with landscaping I wish there were more tutorials about it, roofs, terrain tools, terrain paints etc!
I love tutorials like this. Even though I’m pretty good at building now, I didn’t used to be. But I’ve learned watching lilsimsie and James Turner mostly. But sometimes I need the roof tips and stuff! 😊
I’ve been building for a long time but I appreciate videos like these so much because I don’t see many of them and Kayla is a great teacher imo.
Love this video! I think it would be awesome to see more build-along stuff, especially with different styles of houses and types of buildings.
Ive been playing the sims for 24 years. Im not a builder, im a CAS + gameplay simmer. You've taught me sooo much when it comes to building and Ioften refer to your videos when I get frustrated. Thank you for teaching this old dog (almost 36) new tricks.
You are one of the reasons I properly started building in the Sims 4. Even though you didn't do any real tutorials, you still inspired me to build.
Also Console Sims4 (Xbox specifically) doesn't have some build abilities (shift clicking to move one part of the eaves is one thing that seems to not possible with controllers) unless you whip out a keyboard and mouse. I would know, that's what I play on. With keyboard & mouse it works almost identical to PC.
I love that you made this video. I have discarded so many builds because I feel like they look terrible so this helped a lot.
I have always downloaded houses from the gallery. I was originally a TS1 and TS2 player, I haven’t had much experience with TS4 at all really. Just a few months. I love your channel and I love this video in particular because I am absolutely useless at building, and really want to learn, and I’ve decided you are going to be my teacher - whether you want to be or not, lol 😂 I am just firing up my game and am excited to try this build. You made it look simple, but I bet it takes me hours upon hours, lol. Thank you for all the time you spend trying to help folk like myself, who are visual learners! Much appreciated. Happy New Year to you and yours 💙 Watch this space, lol 😂
I absolutely loved this! I struggle a lot with exteriors - roofing and landscaping, namely, and making my houses not be squares. I built along with part of it, but watched most of it without building along - trying to build along got overwhelming for me lol. But I appreciated all the tips and tricks! I'm going to have to use real-life houses and floorplans more...
Thank you Simsie, this was so so helpful. I never know where to start when I build, and now I can come to this video for some ideas!!
Thanks for making this video. I haven’t played the Sims 4 in a while but I’ve been slowly getting back into it after years and need a refresher lol. Thanks!
I recently downloaded sims and since then I have been watching your videos non-stop!! So this video came at a perfect timing for me since I have been wanting to build my own houses, THANK YOU!
oh my gosh thank you so much for this video. I’ve been trying to get into building for a while and this definitely helped 💗
This is such a great idea!! You should totally do more of these
I'm brand new to Sims4 as of today and this was so helpful! I'm so lucky you made this tutorial!
Thank you so much!
No, you're not decent, you're amazing at building like I wish I could build houses like you do
Yes I'd love if you do some more tutorials/ build with me. watching you build has helped me quite a lot since I started playing the sims 4
This was super helpful and fun - I love a tutorial build along video!!! More!!! ❤🎉
Thank you so much for this post! I love your builds and needed some help on how to build! Thank you!!!!
these are so helpful!! would love love loooove a cottage living tutorial... i've been trying to make a nice family cottage for ages now and i'm struggling!
love this style video sm !! I love building interior but struggle exterior wise
I really love your builds, and you inspired me on trying to build my owns even though they're not good at all lol
But this tutorial really helps! And it being base game is even better!!
Thx for making these tutorial for us, islts really appreciated ❤❤
I have been struggling to build a decent house since I started playing the sims 3. Sims 2 I usually just built what I needed, Sims 4 was just daunting, but this really helped and I can honestly say it had inspired me to try it for myself, thank you for taking the time to upload this and walking us through behind the thought process as well as encouraging us to be more creative. This really helped me a lot. I suck at building xD
I love it when she post tutorials on how to build houses they are so much fun❤❤
Thank you! I just started on PC moving from PS5 and I am learning all over again. New keys and new options. So again thank you!
thank you for this video kayla!! have been meaning to build a house for my legacy family but didn’t know where to start and now i do!
As someone who has always been too intimated to build in the Sims 4, I LOVE this tutorial!! I had to pause a lot and rewind to follow along but I'd love to see more videos like this :)
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been playing the sims for years and I love to furnish but I’m not so good in building. This is very helpful 💕
I'm so bad at roofing and so this video really helped to get me started!! Thx Kayla❤
I have been wanting and trying to build the house I am in and this helped out a lot!!! Can’t wait to get my computer back and try to build!
i loved this, ty! would love a build, design and/or landscape series. i need all the help i can get 🤣
Actually useful and did learn some tricks about roofing, creating a nice porch roof, and dorms even.
PLEASE DO MORE OF THIS. Also I would love to see you furnish this for inspiration ❤️❤️❤️
i havent watched you in so long and just got into the sims again, thank you!
I loved building alongside you it was so helpful!!
Okay I like to think of myself as a "builder" in all types of games but I absolutely EAT UP these types of tutorial videos. What I'm trying to say is this content isn't just appreciated by newbies, but advanced players too. You're the GOAT, simsie!
I need more of this. It was easy, fun and now I have my first sims house that does not suck. Please make a series of this.
I loved this tutorial style video, please do more!
I’ve really been trying to level up my building and I’d love to see more videos like this :)
This legitimately really helped me out…I’m very interested in building and love
the idea of making houses perfectly personalized for my sims I’ve just had a really hard time building…
But after watching this and going along with you it really helped me out and made me feel so accomplished (like yeah I kinda built that!) and it makes me super excited to work on other builds for my sims‼️‼️‼️ Wooo! 🥳
not gonna lie, like a year ago i was able to get into sims 4 for the first time because you shared your common build shortcuts in a few videos. Going in blind with NO shortcut knowledge is hell.
