I agree that if you reasonably have the resources to provide some form of organized security then you should. Due diligence and doing the right thing is never wrong.
Hey Scott.....a big AMEN to that! Thanks for watching and leaving a great comment for the community!
Really enjoying your videos! We are in the beginning stages of our safety/security team. Glad we found you!
Hey Rick! Thanks for watching and commenting. Send me a note if you are not finding something you need to help your team get started!
What this tells me abstractly and applying my understanding from other work environments, is there is a broken process, a process of threat assessment. If any church would do a search for the Florida department of education threat assessment form, there is a 22-page comprehensive document based on a Virginia benchmark on threat assessments to review all the factors, and this should be done as part of a process consistently to document threats and what the church can do, so that way it is in black and white that a problem was recognized, and even if there is not enough funding to address the problem completely for example what ministry can afford a full-time police officer or armed guard, then they have not been willfully negligent.
Thanks for sharing this information, a great share for the community!
Hey Joe, I absolutely agree with having the need for security with the example you've given. Too any church leaders choose to ignore the risk that churches have and obligations to our attendees.
Yes Buddy! I appreciate your comment for the community here.
I have warned my church about this- not only can you simply be sued, but you can also lose. If you just wait for something to happen, you are assuming some deductible of property damage and injury is acceptable. "Nothing like this ever happened before" is not a defense. Perhaps churches are confident that their insurance will cover any potential incidents. Even if it does, they should be concerned about prevention- not addressing problems 'after the fact.'
For every plaintiff, there are hundreds of California lawyers willing to take their case.
Your videos have been instrumental in helping us establish our security team. And videos like this have helped me to get our board on board!
Hey Charles.....that is great news! I am so glad to hear your team is getting established. Thank you for watching, commenting and investing your time into protecting your church and your people!
Thank you for the great information
Thanks c b for watching and commenting!
It's always a gray area. What is "adequate security"? I do think we need to have policies and procedures in place. With regular training and drills to ensure that people know what to do.
Yes Eric it is gray for sure. Doing the best we can, doing something to protect our people! Thanks for your great comment!
I know of a church that is pastored by a former felon. Should they provide additional security because he MIGHT do something? We're seriously going to hold the church responsible for something someone MIGHT do in the future? Madness.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Matt with this community! And yes the world is slowly getting even crazier when it comes to churches!
The church is responsible for the safety of the guest. It doesn’t matter if it’s being safe from a gas leak or crazy killer.
