thank you for listing the heads and times on the video for me. i really appreciate it my friend. listening and choosing the best sound is confusing enough, then to have to locate it in the video. i love the sounds of most of these heads, but we gotta remember what type of drum he is using, and how tight or loose he tuned the drum at, plus the microphone can change the tones of the snare drum heads. thanks again buddy, glen
The best side by side comparison I've seen... no interruptions which make me forget what I just heard. Been playing EC1 coated on toms and may be switching to UV1.
HD Dry, the best, Hydraulic Blue is a close second. I've tried a lot of Evan's heads, and after years settled on the HD Dry, love the sound I get from it. Short, snappy, just really dry, no overtones, but that's what pumps my pedal. Everyone's different.
Thanks for doing these. Really interesting mix. I'm a fan of the EC, calftone, and just a straight G1. ST sounded good as well. Not a fan of any of their "dry" heads, the holes seem to suck out a lot of low end and make for a "papery" sound.
I have been using Pearl Reference 14x6.5 snare with 20 ply shells . With such staggeringly thicker shells, I use heavyweight heads which does the real work for me in giving me the pop and the super loud vibe...And thanks for such an amazing video, man.. Cheers
Thanks for the recommandation! I have a snare of similar thickness and the overtones are out of control with even a two-plies head. This seems to be the solution!
I use remos for everything but I’ve never come across a snare head that I liked more than the EC Reverse dot. It’s LOUD and I get a powerful crack that no other snare head has ever given me. Great for metal.
@@SuperBrictson I like that it has the feel and responsiveness of a one-ply head but the patch in the middle give it a lot of durability. I've never had a metallic ring with one, maybe it's their drum.
Oh wow I have That Same Yamaha Bass Drum Pedal. Its a nylon strap driven pedal that came with my electronic Drum kit. I'm pleased to see it works for you, I never could get the tension right on mine to keep it from clanking on quick foot strokes.
Man I’ve never thought the batter size head can make such Huge differences sonically!! I’m currently using UV1 and always feel that there’re too much ringing going on, I’ll try B14GEN after listening to this comparison, thank you for doing this!!!
Fantastic videos. Been using the G2 for a few years now just due to sheer durability. So would recommend as a strong product. But looking for warmer tone and shorter sustain, I’m going to try out the Remo Powerstroke 3.
This is awesome, they all sound great in their own way! I'm very partial to the g12 coated for my snares. 1 ply tone and feel but 2 ply durability and longevity. It allows the drum to sing and be free but with a minor reduction in over tones vs the standard g1. Also has great brush response, if that's your thing.
Hello my main man. Thank you for the demo of the remo and evans drumhead. It was really nice to hear you did the demo sound. Now I won't be having a problem when I buy a new snare batter for my new SJC pathfinder snare. I guess for all the evans you demo, I'll take my chance for buying an EC1 reverse dot. Good for rock, pop, metal and classical bands. Thank you. By the way, please do a demo sound for the evans rack tom, sir.
THANK YOU very much for NOT cluttering up the sound with a lot of NOISE from crash cymbals, etc. Like OTHER DEMOS. and NOT BORING us to death by ENDLESS JIBBER JABBER.
I know this is an old video but thanks, great demo - maybe the best for a concise demo of the various head options from Evans - better than anything Evans demos !!!
Got the frosted blue hydraulic on my 14x7 oak snare and ec2 reverse on my 13x5.5 steel snare. All hazy 300 and puresound wires. Getting ready to do a hybrid on a 14x7 steel and a 13x3 steel piccolo next.
I used a hydraulic head on a 14×5 maple snare, I wanted a nice fat sound, got that no problem..but I decided to tune it up very high..and jesus it sounded so good, really bright and popping, so surprised..I've kept it at the high tension ever since
BTW, my new snare is way too ringy with a G1, and my old snare is a tad too ringy with a Genera, so I'm going straight for the HD Dry to try on the new snare (Starclassic Maple/Birch 14 x 6.5).
I'm a Remo Amb/Emp coated user but I remember using a coated G1 over twenty yrs ago on my floor tom beating it really hard for yrs and I swore that head did not warp, crack,or peel once .Or was it the G2?Anyways,I was impressed by the durability.🗽
You can read the video description for all the details of how we did it (and the possible variation in sound). It's more the mix between close mics and overheads that were more "roomy" for the Aquarians. We didn't apply EQ or effects anywhere!
Personally i think the genera and the regular HD is the best . They just have thw right amount of overtone . In my opinion the dry versions of hd and the genera just take away the the classic crisp snare sound we all know and love
I have a Genera dry on my black beauty and its the best its ever sounded. I want to experiment on my 8x14 raw brass, and 6.5x14 Classic Maple. Im thinking EC1 reverse dot, heavyweight, or try both. Any input appreciated.
Uhhh, you forgot one lol. (kidding). I like the G12. To my ear it seemed to have more sustain than the other single ply heads. The G14 is very similar but too deep imo (but would be good on a 13" snare). I like sustain / ring and then slightly self dampen with 1/2 of a moon gel. I'm not in to full dry snare heads. They just sound too dead/dull to me and you can never get any ring back out of them. With any non-dampened head you can at least tone it down yourself as needed for best of both.
This and the Remo Heads comparison are by far the most helpful videos out there! Thank you!
Hi Sorantis! We're happy to hear this :) You're very welcome
Very true!
The amount of time and frustration this video saved me cannot be put into words. THANK YOU for such a direct, clear comparison.
finally a video comparison which does a straight side by side comparison without the talk...bravo....
Hi Rusty, that's what we do ;) Thank you for your comment!

its in the description but thanks
To me the G1,Genera Dry and G2's!
The best side by side comparison I've seen... no interruptions which make me forget what I just heard. Been playing EC1 coated on toms and may be switching to UV1.
I love the groove this guy plays; he's so consistent too. It makes my choice easier :-)
Need some rim shots!
I currently using the uv1 on my snare, and it was freaking awesome! The coating very lasting and the tone are awesome! Definitely recommend the uv1's
Learned a new groove - thanks! That inverse para diddle diddle fill is so smooth
HD Dry, the best, Hydraulic Blue is a close second. I've tried a lot of Evan's heads, and after years settled on the HD Dry, love the sound I get from it. Short, snappy, just really dry, no overtones, but that's what pumps my pedal. Everyone's different.
Been a HD Dry guy forever - but...was blown away by the G14. Holy cow the way the snare opened was surprising.
Agreed
They all sound great, but I think the HD Dry and Genera Dry are my go-to for recording.
I was going to say the same thing. That Genera Dry is very useable for recording.
Thanks for doing these. Really interesting mix. I'm a fan of the EC, calftone, and just a straight G1. ST sounded good as well. Not a fan of any of their "dry" heads, the holes seem to suck out a lot of low end and make for a "papery" sound.
That genera dry ♥ Amazing
I really liked the G14. Had a nice cutting attack. I've always got great results cutting the ring out of a HD Dry head.
Genera and HD ❤️
I have been using Pearl Reference 14x6.5 snare with 20 ply shells . With such staggeringly thicker shells, I use heavyweight heads which does the real work for me in giving me the pop and the super loud vibe...And thanks for such an amazing video, man.. Cheers

Man you got a nice drum! Mines a rusty old Vic Firth but it sounds incredible with a Geneva Dry
Can´t thank you enough for making this video. I dreamed of seeing something like it for years!
Nice comparison! I can’t even imagine how much time was invested doing this!
Hi Ryan, glad you appreciate! Was worth it :)
Loving the calftone. Open but not too much overtones.
This is by far the best evan snare comparison video i came across to. Thank you!
Hi Dounoe, thank you for the kind words! Keep groovin'
Aquarian next? Haha great videos!
Here it is! Enjoy ;) czcams.com/video/zF9xNsHLyK0/video.html
HD Dry is the head im using and i love it! I dont think ill be switching to a new head anytime soon
I just ordered that one from Amazon 5 minutes ago, I hope to enjoy it as much as you do :D
Congrats on the vid. I frankly couldn't play a groove on the same tempo with the same dynamics AND changing 15 snareheads in between. Keep it up
I use remos for everything but I’ve never come across a snare head that I liked more than the EC Reverse dot. It’s LOUD and I get a powerful crack that no other snare head has ever given me. Great for metal.
I know I already hated the EC reverse dot, but that confirmed it for me.
Awesome videos by the way, thanks for the excellent work!
Same. I think the dot design somehow enhances all those nasty overtones along the lugs.
Yeah I was expecting to like it because it's a neat idea, but as soon as he started that section I literally said, "Eww" outloud lol.
Hands down to the best comparison video for drum heads!
Hi again Justin, thank you for the kind words!
Toms next!
Such a great video! So well thought out and informative and thanks for listing all the gear and relevant info!
Hi Michael! Thank you for the kind words. We appreciate :)
1. G2
2. Onyx
3. EC/ST/HD
Oh and the Hydraulic Blue sounded the best!
Thats right !
Wow it's surprising how much deader they sound in comparison to the Remos.
Agreed!
Not necessarily a bad thing, though.
Could be a number of things contributing to that. Different room , mic placement, etc etc
Also die cast hoops on this snare, the remos were demonstrated on triple flanged hoops.
@@ianisaacs2340 No it was diecast hoops
Awesome comparison, Power Center Reverse Dot is still my favorite snare batter head.
Thank you for your comment Andrew!
Do you know why PCRD Is your favorite? I m not a fan of that metallic sound right at the end, EC rings out the worst
@@SuperBrictson I like that it has the feel and responsiveness of a one-ply head but the patch in the middle give it a lot of durability. I've never had a metallic ring with one, maybe it's their drum.

Have an HD dry on my lm402.... sounds great

Wonderful on the Toms too...
Hello my main man. Thank you for the demo of the remo and evans drumhead. It was really nice to hear you did the demo sound. this is a DREAM of a comparison!!!
Hope you enjoyed :)
But Dream makes cymbals, not drum heads!
THANK YOU very much for NOT cluttering up the sound with a lot of NOISE from crash cymbals, etc. Like OTHER DEMOS. and NOT BORING us to death by ENDLESS JIBBER JABBER.
ST Dry and Hydraulic were my favorites
I know this is an old video but thanks, great demo - maybe the best for a concise demo of the various head options from Evans -

I play aquarian but the ec1 and the heavyweight sound amazing!
Wow, didn‘t know that there are so many different heads out there. Great vid!
Thank you Georg! Always surprising to see all the options we can have! No wonder why it's confusing... (that's why we make these videos ;))
Nothing beats those Evans Dry heads! 😍😍😍
Nope, nothing. The air from the inside flows outside from the holes. Powerstroke just kills the snare.
Controlled sound coated my guy
G1 on snare all day nice and bright good crack currently running a uv1 right now and its decent too
Power Center Reverse Dot by far.
What a great video! Thanks a lot for your effort! For me it's between the HD Dry and the Hydraulic :)
I used a hydraulic head on a 14×5 maple snare, I wanted a nice fat sound, got that no problem..but I decided to tune it up very high..and jesus it sounded so good, really bright and popping, so surprised..I've kept it at the high tension ever since
I will try a hydraulic for sure on 14x6.5 maple snare! 🤘
Thank you for this very useful comparison!
BTW, my new snare is way too ringy with a G1, and my old snare is a tad too ringy with a Genera, so I'm going straight for the HD Dry to try on the new snare (Starclassic Maple/Birch 14 x 6.5).
Thanks Timpano, have a good day.
You're welcome!
Now this is a real comparison video!!!
I like the sound of Calftone, G2, Hydraulic.
I just put a hydraulic blue on my gretch Catalina Ash snare. Fantastic!
Great! That head is fantastic IMO!
They all sound great to be honest mate
Some hard work you must have done though,....great job
Hi Owen, yes a lot of work but totally worth it! Thank you for your comment!
Uv1, genera, Hd are my favs!
wow! all very impressive, except the J1
I have a G2 on my birch wood snare, sounds great
G12 and G14, Cool! 👍
Merci encore toujours aussi utile !! whaooo :)
Do Aquarian!
We're working on it NuDrums!
Update? I'm eagerly waiting
Me too!
me too!
Me too
I love that ringy tone from G14
Best comparison video...!! Helped me a lot to choose :) Thanks a lot
Hi Priyal, you're welcome! :)
UV 1 , G2 , HD Dry, ST Dry
Yeah, they all soung great, but which snare wire you use? 😉
Exactly what I'm wanting to know...
THANKYOU! the Genera Dry & HD Dry >....Ooooo ;-)
I'm a Remo Amb/Emp coated user but I remember using a coated G1 over twenty yrs ago on my floor tom beating it really hard for yrs and I swore that head did not warp, crack,or peel once .Or was it the G2?Anyways,I was impressed by the durability.🗽
well done. thanks for this effort
Forgot the hybrid
You da real MVP
I have the power center reverse dot and don't like the bell ring when you strike it. Going to an HD DRY.
Excellent presentation. Thank you!
It’s a ime to subscribe.
Thanks
You definitely did something to take the reverb out of the room for the Remo and Evans shootouts but the Aquarian shootout did not get that same love!
You can read the video description for all the details of how we did it (and the possible variation in sound). It's more the mix between close mics and overheads that were more "roomy" for the Aquarians. We didn't apply EQ or effects anywhere!
I’d go for the hd dry and the calftone
Hello! The best sound comparision, thanks so much
You're welcome Rocky! Do you have a favorite?
Thanks for your answer! Yes, I like the UV1 and the genera Dry. And on your Remo video, I like the Powerstroke 4
A video of the Evans drumheads and then on the kick drum is there a Remo powerstroke?
Personally i think the genera and the regular HD is the best . They just have thw right amount of overtone . In my opinion the dry versions of hd and the genera just take away the the classic crisp snare sound we all know and love
Thanks for this video. Excellent.
Thank you Dean!
Great vid you definitely gotta do an aquarian one now💪🏾
Hi there, here it is! Enjoy ;) czcams.com/video/zF9xNsHLyK0/video.html
Mercii beaucoup ça aide vraiment pour mon choix!
C'est exactement ce pourquoi on l'a fait! Merci à toi
i have an ec reverse dot but i am digging on the power center and the hydraulic blue. in fact they sound very similiar
That onyx head though ⚫️🥵
Aaaaah, genera dry.... always my favourite
For me the onyx sounds incredible.
I'd like to hear comparisons done on steel and brass shells.
