    Used Evans since I was 12 and got my first real drumset because my uncle swore by then. Used all different types of tom heads, but since they came out with the HD Dry, it's been on all of my snares for the last 20 years.

    the hybrid in hi-tuning has been my jam ever since I played one a few years ago in a practice studio. I'm a total hamfist and ruin a snare head in a single show or practice. the hybrid has yet to fail after countless practices and gigs. it's like 5 times more expensive than a standard coated single ply, but in the long run is way way cheaper.

    • @claysmell
      @claysmell Před 8 měsíci

      @@Kandodndosjsoejwoe I have one on what's ironically called a hybrid snare, it's part wood part aluminum if I remember correctly. the evans hybrid can do no wrong in my book, it sounds fantastic on that as well.

      @claysmell Před měsícem +1

      @@DRUMSandBUBS I have one on a Dixon half aluminum/maple, a Peavey Radial, an Arbiter Radial and a Canopus The Maple. they all sound great. I don't have any on a full steel, but I imagine it could sound fantastic. UPDATE: I'm an idiot and can't type - "Arbiter Radial" - it's an Arbiter snare and I totally forgot it's steel. and it's my current studio snare, and currently my favorite.

    • @DRUMSandBUBS
      @DRUMSandBUBS Před měsícem +1

      Ok, OK. I'm going for it. I like the high tuning from the video. I'm just worried about over tones with my 8x14 steel. It's overtone city but I have 2 and even 3 options that make it work. I switched out the original trip flange hoops for cast and it toned it down nice...maybe too much. I might put one t flange back on and also if I run a 30 count strand wire it tones it down even more. Too much actually. So if I go with the hybrid batter, cost hoops and 30 strand I bet it would be verry controlled and dry.
      If I do the batter hybrid and the triple flange and 16 count it would probably be open alot but not too much like it was stock with a cool high tuning.

    Great video. I'm an Evans guy, and this was helpful. A note: I've used both the G2 coated and the UV2 on my snares, and have found the UV coating actually be LESS durable than the traditional coating. I've moved back to the G2 Coated, and have been very happy.

    The high tuning on the grey hybrid 😮‍💨❤️🔥. I have the black and it’s gold. I going get the red or blue for my wood snare after I complete repairs. I going low tune it for a fat snare sound. ✊🏼

  • @danzitoli2796
    @danzitoli2796 Před 7 měsíci +2

    For your snare I'd say I prefer both Genera Drys and also the EC Reverse Dot. I was surprised by the Hybrid! Thought it would be a really dead sound but seems like it's versatile for the tunings and heavy hitters.
    I think each snare and scenario determines the best options for which head to use. In my practice room without the drums being mic'd at all, then prefer the Genera HD & HD Dry. For a snare being mic'd would probably go with something "lighter" like UV2 or lighter and use dampeners to adjust sound.
    Great stuff!!!

    Here’s an awesome hack: any drum head, any ply, with an Evans Aramid Fiber patch underneath the head. Boom, instant reverse dot/cs dot/whatever and it adds a lot of character to drum heads, snare AND toms

  • @SoundsToBlowYourMind

    G1 coated, UV1 and PCRD are my usual go to snare heads, or Remo Ambassador coated, or CS coated, but I also love the Evans Genera Dry, HD and HD Dry and EC reverse dot for more controlled sound. One head you missed from this was the Strata 700 and Strata 1000. I've been meaning to try those after hearing Carter McLean using them, but I have a set of G2 coated on my kit for about 10 years and they are still going strong, so can't really justify replacing them yet. Damn those really durable Evans heads, I wanna try something new, but I don't wanna throw the old ones away just yet, lol!

    Great overview of the entire range. Question: I like and use the Evans HD DRY/Hazy 300 on my Pearl Masters SST 14"x6.5" Snare. I tune 395hz on the resonate and 275hz on the batter. I just bought a Yamaha RC Brass 14"x6.5". It came with an Ambassador, but looking to swap over to Evans. Any recommendations on a solid Evans batter choice for Brass as well as the best batter tuning hz? Mostly rock / country / CCM. Thoughts?
