  • Are we off grid farming? Well, not quite but we have a power solution to help out in the shop and get us on the road to being more self sustainable. This project is racing against the clock too because we would like to have it up and running by Sip of Freedom Weekend next week!
Check out our neighbor Alan's Etsy shop. He has lots of great stuff on there and he is the one that made the row builder for our Kubota tractor Kenny.

Mike @3MISSISSIPPI you need to put no corrode paste on those wires from meter box too the electrical panel, those wires will corrode,it is a standard with all power companies

Mike just a thought, If it was my shop i would use plywood or something like t-111 on the walls other than drywall. That way you for structure on the entire wall for anything you would like to fasten. No taping no mudding. A quick coat of paint and your done.

@@3MISSISSIPPI you have to insulate before you install the drywall. do the same before the plywood

On my dad's and my shop, we have underground feed and just come up through the footing. Our REC is easy to get along with. They don't really care what you do past their meter. I had 100 amp service to my house split with my shop. In the summer, we would pop the breaker in the meter box while welding in the shop. They upgraded me to a 200 amp service at no charge. My dad's house in unoccupied now but I am sure when my son tears it down and builds a house there they will have to upgrade his service too.

Purlins are used on the roof. Grits are used on walls.
Any aluminum wire connections per the NEC require the use of a antioxidant electrical grease. Aluminum wire connections should also be checked after applying a load on the circuit.
Looks like fun time to be had by all.
I'm going to make a suggestion to either have a multi-meter that measures frequency or a P3 Kill-o-watt to measure the load per circuit and the frequency of the power being supplied. Old electrical transformers can and do malfunction.

I agree with the plywood instead of sheetrock. Easier to clean stronger and wont mildew like sheetrock in our high humidity environment. Also on the wiring. I would use either Mc cable or conduit in the shop for all the wiring that way you don't have to worry about any mice chewing on your wiring later. Last if your going to install a transfer switch then your power from the meter base should go into the switch first then into your main panel box (aka distribution box)

Take a look at Victron if you are planning to build a solar system. I built a 23 kWh system January-march last year, I never regretted choosing most of the components from Victron. I bought the solar modules and the LiFePO4 batteries from other brands because Victron is too expensive for these components.

❤ The best decision you could have made. You'll have a safe building and home for doing this.
It's a miracle that the long little wires that were already in the building has not overheated and caused a fire.
Now you have plenty of power on the ccx way.
    Looking forward to seeing more.

If you intend to install a main power transfer switch for future onsite power, then your main power feed, which you have just fit and connected to your distribution panel, needs to be connected to the transfer switch instead. The hard work you just did (including installing the conduit and cutting the cable) will have to be undone so you can connect to the transfer switch instead. If you want to do it, do it now. You can throw that cable out and pull a new one to the. transfer switch. Then a short cable from the transfer switch to your panel incoming breaker. You weren't intending to do this after the inspection, were you?

    • @3MISSISSIPPI
      @3MISSISSIPPI  Před 29 dny

The transfer switch is something we will do but we don’t have it yet and had to expedite this project because of a large CZcams event we are hosting . Switched are installed in homes all the time on existing electric . We can still do that part later .

I have a heavy duty extension cord running from my basement, thru the board covering the small basement window with the dryer vent also thru the plywood. I ran the EX cord up to my fence, across the top of the fence ( with a gate ) to my 1 car garage. Thru that wall and it has a 2 plug end. 1 plug for a chest freezer and the other for the pull string bulb. Very not code, but in the 18 years we have been here....... absolutely no problems. I check the cord for damage about every month.

Solar or wind turbines, and the county south is paulding, which has many huge turbines like 240, the future is alternative engery and it is not going to go away! In fact more major industries are investing in it, both foreign! And domestic! The local schools here have solar fields. As ol saying goes! We will see whats, whats in time! Great video guys😊

you did not ground an bond the panel or identify the neutral conductor plus if you use the kos in the panel you have to have a grounding bushing an idenify the phase conductors an to make it off grid you need a transfer switch between the meter base an the panel
