- Authorities are investigating after one subway rear-ended another at a Manhattan station Thursday, causing some type of derailment, according to MTA sources. The collision has led to a "major disruption" of subway service through Manhattan for the evening commute, MTA said.

The F train doesn’t have old trains. The R160s are still modern. Now the A train has the R179s and the R211 will replace the old R46s on the A train. The R62 and R62a trains that run on the 3 and 6 lines definitely need to be replaced

The way the subway system actually works, they can't pass a red signal without automatically engaging the brakes. The train has the come to a complete stop BEFORE that system can be bypassed. This was not a "hardware problem," this HAS to be because someone on the train they were working on screwed up.
If it was being run from the Conductors position, that's in the middle of the train, there is no way that they could see what's in front of the train. It SHOULD have been run from the Train Operator's Cab,
The signals have what is called a "trip". When the signal is red, a trip goes up. When a train passes over a red signal, it activates the Automatic Trip Control (ATC), which applies the emergency brakes to the entire train; stopping it.
The only way that the system would fail is if the ATC was faulty, or if the motorman used what is called an ATC Bypass, which is used with a key and a push of a button.
If the train was being "pushed", by being operated by another car on the train, the conductor or a flagman should have been present to let the motorman pushing the train via radio or a conductor to visually see what is ahead of the train from the sliding glass window in the front cab, to flag the motorman pushing that train to stop.
Something just doesn't seem right with this picture! After all, the authorities did say that the train was VANDALIZED! Vandalized HOW? Steel debris on the rails? Tampering with the cab equipment by someone unauthorized? &We need to know what type of vandalism occurred.

I mean I don’t get why the MTA has to take a train out of service just for a bit of graffiti on the train, don’t understand what they mean with vandalized, but if it wasn’t serious, they could’ve kept operating the train till the end of the line
If people would STOP THROWING TRASH onto the tracks, it would be a big help. That can cause a train to "derail" and jump off the tracks.

You obviously don't have a CLUE what it actually costs to run them.
This has nothing to do with trash. A train was crossing over into another track and they collided. The real question is why did the train proceed because usually there is a red signal and if a train passes a red signal, the emergency breaks would automatically apply
