    The way Jack dragged The Emperor back before he could escape again, followed up with the line “your reign is over” is a such a good way to end that fight.

    I like how this further solidifies that other dimensions and timelines are canon in the FF story's.
    Meaning Garland has seen some sh*t during his millennia of existence.
    Even going to the edge of time where Chaos and Cosmos summoned their strongest in a War for all Creation.
    Dude just walked up to Chaos and said "Eh, so that's what I will look like in two-thousand years."

      Chaos in dissidia isn’t actually Garland, it’s just a manikin that happened to look like the demon Jack would become

    • @jefthereaper
      @jefthereaper Před rokem +9

      @@JB6GD684 Right, I rechecked my psp.
      From the reports and character files its noted that he's not a Manikin though.
      He's the son of he Lufenian Cid.
      Who preformed experiments to create powerful war machines and advancements for Lufenia.
      The Chaos project being one of them.
      As well as creating a Manikin based on his wife to become Cosmos.
      (And a very vague few statements alluding that the WoL might actually not be a normal Cornelian, but actually a Manekin based on Cid himself? but that last bit is very vague in my memory)
      The implications of that are even more interesting though, as that can be speculated that the original Chaos was created by the Lufenians themselves.
      So we can assume that if time would have progressed as normal, Dissidia Chaos would emerge eventually.
      Interestingly enough in a different split off timeline, Jack starts the Cycle where he destroys Lufenia (well to be fair, Nil destroyed Lufenia and Jack just kills her as the last Lufenian) and ironically achieves the same effect as Cid's experiment by merging with enough darkness and negativity to become Chaos.
      Now the real question remains to how this alternate timeline even came to be.
      (as Dissidia's Chaos is considered history to us as observers, that means a shift in "history" should be impossible unless there is outside influence)
      So my money is on the "benefactor", who is likely Shinryu.
      Though why it would interfere and nudge the flow of time in a different direction is still a mystery.
      Especially as changing time does not seem to nullify things that "technically" have already happened. (as the Emperor, moogle and others clearly remember events from Dissidia.)
      This version of Garland is also much stronger, considering he's not even undergoing the Chaos transformation like he was in Dissidia (much bulkier, and his alternate costume showing his supposed semi-chaos form under his armor)
      Yet Jack's still strong enough to kick the Emperor's ass who just escaped from the Dissidia war.
      That likely also means the WoL from this timeline is going to be MUCH stronger then the previous cycles.
      Yes I'm getting way to absorbed into this again.

      @@LordExor To be fair, so was Bahamut in Dawn of the Future, yet he's now a good guy thanks in large part to being humiliated by both Noctis and Ardyn (in case you're wondering, it's heavily implied the Bahamut in this game is the same one from FFXV, and by extension from Dawn of the Future not just in terms of physical appearance, but also his backstory). If they can make Bahamut a good guy DESPITE what he did in Dawn of the Future, making the Emperor develop into a good guy isn't going to require much effort. Heck, Disney actually DID exactly that with Maleficent recently (not that I WANTED her to be turned good, though, but still...), and she has even LESS chances of actually BECOMING good (at least the Emperor had arguable demonic possession as an excuse if we go by that novel, Maleficent was basically Damien Thorpe.).

      @@ericotness6147 You can turn anyone into a good guy. You can make Palpatine-which the Emperor is partly based on-into a good guy. Is it sensical? Is it warranted? • @ericotness6147
      @ericotness6147 Před rokem +3

      @@LordExor Like I said, they turned Bahamut into a good guy in this, and not just any Bahamut, the one from FFXV that was revealed to be a really nasty guy in Dawn of the Future. Claiming a villain's too unsympathetic to be turned good isn't going to cut it unfortunately, not after he was turned into a good guy in this game despite it being his least sympathetic characterization.
      And funny you should reference Palpatine, though... After George Lucas explicitly modeled Palpatine and his Empire on America, and Nixon in particular, and modeled the "heroes", the Rebel Alliance, after the Vietcong, I'm actually a bit MORE likely to view Palpatine as being an actual good guy thanks to that really sick, depraved action Lucas did. Even moreso when Lucas explicitly and deliberately based the "good guys" on terrorists by his own admission recently. Bashing Nixon's one thing, but modeling the good guys after a blatantly communist terror group?! Palpatine being a good guy is CERTAINLY more sensible and warranted than modeling the actual good guys of Star Wars after Communists, the guys who kill people for fun per Marxist ideology.

    • @LordExor
      @LordExor Před rokem +6

      @@ericotness6147 It's a heinous oversimplification to cite Nixon as Palpatine's sole influence, unless you think Nixon was a sadistic cackling space Satan with glowing eyes and red and black cloaks.
      And yes, saying a villain is too unsympathetic for a Heel-Face Turn is perfectly valid. You can leverage the power of awful writing all you want to force a square peg into a round hole, but that doesn't mean it's rational, justified, or good sense. You can't salvage everyone. In the case of the Emperor, Square-Enix has had 34 years to give him a redemption, and they've resisted the urge every time he's made a reappearance. They understand his niche in the pantheon of FF villainy, and what makes him an appealing character.

    The thing is, "FF 2" and "FF: Tactics" were also based on "Game of Thrones" (or at least it was similar to the point the fandom makes constant comparisons between the show and the two "FFs"). This game doesn't feel right. It feels like a reboot/copy paste of sorts of both games.
    Olivier for example is an inferior copy of Emperor Matheus. Because the Emperor was actually a fascinating character to study. With Olivier, we only got a puppet to look at until Ultima shows up. Where's the fun in that ?
    And the political conflict ? "Tactics" handled it better. Dycedarg for example was a sick strayegist. Clive and Joshua's mother is simply a Karen like most people pointed out. Nothing special that makes her a fantasy level villain. I might as well have watched some soap opera if all she was gonna be was a toxic housewife/mother figure.

      Mate, read my comment again and not just the last part. I AM blaming Nojima. I know that he's the lead writer of VIIR and this.
      Also as you said, Nomura is still the director of VIIR. I am partially blaming him from the mad shenanigans in VIIR but the main blame lies in Nojima and Fujiwara. FYI I don't hate the remake, but it's almost clear that it's a sequel of the last part of the entire anthology of VII because both Sephiroth and Aerith know what is going on, what have happened, what might happen, and what will happen. VIIR is them playing a New Game+.

      @@budakbaongsiah I'm so used to people reflexively scapegoating (see further up in the comments here) the dude that my brain immediately read Nomura instead of Nojima.
