A good thing to remember when reading comments is that a significant portion of the fanbase only started reading the manga once the 2011 anime ended, me included.
To me, it was painfully obvious that the Spider backstory was only half of the full picture, maybe even less. But a lot of people seemed not to catch that. And a lack of experience with his writing style is to blame, I think.
I'm sure it doesn't help that One Piece is very popular right now, and Oda pretty much only ever does one flashback per character.

i honestly have a very strong feeling that someone (like Tsereidnich) set up this kind of conflict between the Kurta Clan and (people from) Meteor City.
The note that they left with the mutilated corpse of Sarasara was the doing of the people behind this said manipulation. Chrollo, being the kid, he was probably thought it was genuinely the Kurta Clan that did this brutally inhumane murder. The person's motives behind this gaslighting were simple; to track down the Kurta Clan and obtain their scarlet eyes and to create a conflict between these 2 group entities. All things considered, both the Kurta Clan and the Phantom Troupe had fallen victim to this scheme. And if we were to make a metaphor with the real world, the people with high ranks in the society are usually the ones that orchestrate these kinds of schemes.
i genuinely hope that if this was the case, Kurapika and the phantom troupe would form an alliance to obtain justice they all deserve. I kind of expect that many (if not all) of the Phantom troupe members would die but i really hope that Kurapika will find salvation and that he will not die in the end because of all the characters in the series, he is one that deserves redemption the most.

I don't know if it would be reasonable for Kurapika to forgive the Troup even if they were led to kill his clan under false pretenses.
It would just make them fools as well as monsters in his eyes.

I don't think the Kurta were involved with Sarasa for the simple reason that Uvo and the other Spiders could barely recall the scarlet eyes and the Kurta massacre. Not to say that there isn't shady stuff possibly going on with the Kurta given Kurapika's flashback ending with Meteor City's message about not taking anything from them, also the mystery of Sheila. The bit about Tserriednich's tattoo artist was interesting, if that is the case, we could see Kurapika and Chrollo have a mutual enemy.

I love the tragedy of this backstory because it goes so well for the story of Kurapika. Chrollo was him once and Kurapika might become Chrollo if he looses himself in revenge.

18:56 : you lost me here, it's the other way around actually, Nobunaga said that they Were originally like the mafia, meaning they were just murderers, seeking for revenge to kill and satisfy their anger but now they have a clear structure and goal and they do it in a more "human" way that's why they want to kill that mafia family because that family just wants to watch the whole world burns and it irritates the spider, which is why Nobunaga says "we are nothing like them". Personally I don't think the spiders found the murderers of sarasa, and I'll even think that those killers are the men of one of the princes (the one that has a collection of scarlet eyes and is terrifyingly fast at learning Nen) just like you said the tattoo is the same and they share VERY similar mindsets, actually Identical ideologies. I think his men might even might be the ones that killed the kurta.

i agree with most of what you said here but the troupe's involvement in the kurta massacre is set in stone already. Uvo confirmed that he took part in the kurta massacre whn fighting kurapika and paku remembers the kurta clan too when they were trying to figure out who kurapika was and ended up linking the scarlet eyes on the fortunes to a survivor of the kurta.

@@idirbouchdoug1567 I don't believe machi or phinks and pakunoda and sharnalk not even Nobunaga could go and kill little children and take their eyes out, they have to make them angry at first so their eyes turn red then take it out while they're alive then kill them, that's impossible for me to even Invision that scene, only the mafia can do messed up things like that, here's what I think happened: I think the spiders created that website that kurapika and Pariston and all the criminals use, it's hinted especially since Chrollo was talking about using the internet before it even exists, so they created that website making it a safe heaven for criminals to share their information, so chrollo was very well informed on all the crimes that were happening. We know their childhood friend Sheila was with the kurta clan, the spiders probably kept an eye on her, whenever the kurta massacre crime happened the mafia shared it on chrollo's website, he was one of the first to hear about it, went there with all the spiders to check on Sheila, their friend, then they probably found the criminals and killed them, and used that plateforme to make the world believe that they were the ones that did it (remember that's their goal they want to terrify the world and make them scared of the spiders). Naturally Uvo wouldn't go and say to kurapika that they didn't do it since their whole image would be destroyed if that information goes out in public, so he played the game, and even the way he was talking to kurapika it sounds fake, like he sounds like he either wanted to make kurapika angry and he didn't really mean what he was saying, anyway that's what I think. And the reason the flashback didn't continue all the way to the kurta means that we're going to get a plot twist when that is revealed otherwise they would have showed it here with this flashback. And the last thing we saw was Sheila leaving the spiders, she's definitely gonna have a huge role (she could've also been killed by the kurta and the spiders took revenge but even that is less likely just because of how they killed them)

@@idirbouchdoug1567 yeah, i agree, i have a strange feeling the kurta did something to the troupe 5-7 years before the story, the troupe are murderers, but they dont just kill for no real reason, i cant say why, but it may very well have something to do with sheila who was friends with the troupe all those years ago

This also makes chrollo an even more tragic character. They more than likely have already found sarasa killers, but after all the time spent killing, maiming, genociding etc, chrollo BECAME the same type of person that sarasa's killers were. In the chapter in yorknew where gon asks chrollo how he can kill those who have nothing to do with him, before he responds chrolli gives a look akin to anger. He proceeded to say "perhaps it is BECAUSE they have nothing to do with me" seeing his younger self reflected in gon, acknowledging how he now has the same mindset as those men did all those years ago. At a young age, chrollo became very antisocial, he forged no new bonds with anyone but those he grew up with, even current members like shizuku he does not treat the same as those like machi and pakunoda. No with hisoka killing shalnark and threatening the others, we see chrollo losing more and more of his ties to humanity.

    great video man
what is crazy is that the ryodan did actually leave their motto after massacring the kurata so they did actually do it as a responce to something like the first bombing incident
also in kurapica's backstory the old granny refered to them as agents of the devil and if they kept angrying them they get killed ,is this a misconception about them because of their red eyes or there is something more to it ?

🕷 I don't know how many of the questions raised by the backstory Togashi will actually answer. The big ones like the Kurta massacre and what was written on the paper probably will be, but stuff like why allow the killers of previous members to join the Troupe, I think will go unaddressed.
For now, a threeway battle to the death for Chrollo-Kurapika-Tserriednich seems to be on the cards. I have a feeling Hisoka is going to get tangled up in this backstory as well though.

Chrollo is definitely pariston. The way he spoke as a child about changing te system. He eventually knew hed have to go beyond meteor city to change meteor city. So he made the troupe, became a hunter and was made The Rat Zodiac. it all lines up with chrollos ideals as a child.

I’m sure chrollo found a book from a Kurta and discovered Nen through language. Becoming a specialist somehow through his learning of it due to wanting to seek the person who killed his friend since he chooses to withhold what the letter said.

I must heavily disagree on this. Paku didn't die for what Chrollo stands for, she died for her personal love of him. I 100% believe Feitan and Phinks were correct when it came to what Chrollos principles are in that predicament, sacrificing Chrollo to kill the Chain user would have been in line with what Chrollo stands for. But Paku wanted to save Chrollo no matter what because she was more concerned with him as a person, rather than the Spider. I mean, Chrollo even said(well, thought) it himself when Paku was given instructions by Kurapika. Chrollo was thinking about Kurapikas weaknesses and how Paku should exploit them immediately.
EDIT: Yo I'm such a bum I only finished the video now. Great video, loved the analysis part, especially talking about how the troupe wasn't just revenge driven but also became a necessary evil to protect the city. That line of thinking slipped me while reading apparently, but it's obviously a perfect fit.

i don't think it's a coincidence togashi is showing us the backstory of the troupe now. I think togashi is driving the readers into feeling empathetic towards the spiders. I would even say that the kurta clan weren't as innocent as we were once led to believe and that will have a massive impact towards our perception of the troupe. When we start feeling really attached to the spiders, they're gonna die in their conflict against hisoka, with only chrollo left surviving. It all started with him seeking revenge for his friends, and it ended with all of his friends dead, sacrificing his innocence for nothing.

    • @patrickzalatoris3206

i did notice early on, that while the phantom troupe kill people for money and treasure, i dont really see them killing "innocent" people, and by that i mean theyve mainly killed mafia members, i know they did kill squala in york new and he didnt really do anything, but he was a mafia member of the nostrade family, so he was really just caught up in the spiders web for being a member
