I’m not sure how I stumbled onto your videos. But my daughter just graduated from Yale. And I have a sister in WA. Used to live in Subiaco but now lives down near Albany. Your joy at being home in Perth just shone through in this vlog. I’m very happy that you’ve been able to get home for your break. I know how tough it’s been on mental health this year. First year uni can be tough on mental health in a normal year. So congrats on getting through the year. Enjoy your break and I hope you’ll get refreshed and be ready to again tackle more years at Yale.

That feeling when you finally get home PLUS you recognize everything around you......best feeling ever. I also had a really hard time this semester and last semester when the pandemic started. Anxiety, depressive episodes, insomnia, worries about anything and everything, etc. Your not alone 🥺

have you ever been 'out and about' in NYC or have you only transited through during covid? must be quite surreal if so - i wonder how that impacts your impression of such a famous city
aw thank you! it was definitely stressful at times, but I try to keep positive and I'm so grateful for all these experiences 🤍 I stayed in NYC for about 10 days (5 of these days were in quarantine) before the start of the spring semester. so I had 5 days 'out and about', but I only went outside once per day to run. I was staying in Manhattan so I would run to and around Central Park once a day. but I didn't go to any restaurants, cafes, shops, or inside any buildings at all, nor did I explore the streets - simply because I wanted to stay as safe as possible with covid. I've never been to NYC before this year, so I'm excited to visit in better circumstances one day soon! and you're correct, it's very surreal x

I find one of the most annoying things about being super organised and early for a flight is not being able to check your baggage, but being hungry while not wanting to carry like four bags through a line at an airport fast food joint 😂
P.S. That police escort looked awesome, the only time being surrounded by the flashing reds and blues is fun!

It's so exciting that you managed to make it back to Australia! Makes the struggle with your luggage worth it hopefully. I am the same with travel, where I always allow for being able to miss my bus/train and still make it on time, which then means I get places super early!

It's crazy that it's been 1 year! Was it hard getting a flight back into Australia? How much was your plane ticket (if you don't mind me asking)
This is what's so freeing for me-- that vaccinations significantly cut down on transmission! Aaaah yes. My region of 2.6 million has about 30 cases a day, 2 hospitalizations daily, 1 death daily. 63% >12 y/o are fully vaccinated, 72% w/at least 1 dose. Vaccinations FTW. Keep on, eventually everyone will feel comfortable to really live their life as they did pre-COVID.

yes they were very serious, it was a really interesting process! grades were all pretty good :) mental health is super important. I have spoken to a therapist at Yale and also plan to see one in Perth x

Hi, did you pay for the hotel guarantee or was it assigned to you from the airport? I need to fly to another country for an exam and they need me to guarantee there for 14 days as well.
In Aus you pay for the hotel quarantine yourself and I’m pretty sure it’s $2000-$3000

I’m not sure if you know who she is but she’s been living in England with her boy friend (joe sugg) and she’s come back to Australia to see her family and is vlogging her whole quarantine and is also in Novotel in Perth quaranting at the moment also!!

no, not at all! I would 100% recommend studying in the US as an international student. I will speak about this more in future videos but I think it is such an incredible experience and so much fun in normal times. all the ‘bad’ things this year were somehow related to covid. if the pandemic hadn’t been a thing, I really think I would have had a great year. it would have been tough, for sure, but I think overall it would have been really good. covid just made things difficult this year, especially for international students
Cant forget those empty airline flight back to Aus.. took from Chicago o-here direct flight...U r treated like a VIP by flight attendants & u get to eat all u can eat

May sound really stupid but how come you went that way round the globe? Wouldn’t it be quicker to go the other way?!
Perth is actually directly opposite Yale, so it’s the same distance/time either way around the globe!! if I was going from the US to the east coast of Australia, the other way would be faster. and same if I was going from the west coast of the US to Perth - the other way would be faster. but from New York to Perth, both ways are pretty much the same! and these flights were the cheapest option 🥰

I think there has already been plenty of evidence why Australia shouldn’t trust it’s own citizens. I frankly fully support the measures that we have put into place in Australia. It has saved our country from a lot of the hardship and loss that other countries have dealt with. The vaccines do not stop you from catching COVID and potentially transmitting it. Until they have enough data about the effect of vaccination on transfer they are not going to stop quarantine.
