    What a neat project. That receiver is one of the prettiest units I've ever seen. I use a Sabaj A10h headphone amp with RCA ins/outs as a remote volume control in a tape monitor. Combined with my remote control on off switch I never have to get out of my grandpa recliner to listen to vintage audio. LOL

    I just don’t get the obsession to put Bluetooth into everything. Maybe I’m old school. But I just think there are so many options available to get most things plugged in, that I just don’t see the need. But, as I said, I’m old school. Bluetooth just makes my eyes roll, now.

    Me personally I wouldn’t do any of these mods to a vintage receiver for only one specific reason and that’s anyone you ask that knows audio will tell you that those cheap Bluetooth modules are horrible for sound quality.
    You’re better off using the auxiliary port and hooking up either a Wiim pro + or bluenode they actually have a built in dac and use wifi rather than Bluetooth so you can still get high-quality lossless sound through your vintage receiver to your speakers the difference is night and day and that’s what I’ve done with my SX 980 and my 780 and you can link the two to where you can play music in multiple rooms at the same time which is also a nice feature and I don’t have them sitting on top of the receivers I just have them down somewhere else on the shelf out of sight and let me tell you they sound amazing compared to any cheap Bluetooth module mod.

    When I was young, my mom had an RCA console stereo, before the amplifier completely stopped working properly, she would start the record player and use her hand to get the platter spinning a bit. There were a few times before she started playing the records, she would tap on the radio section when the light wasn't working to get the light on. She had that stereo to where she knew the idiosyncrasies it had. When it finally wasn't usable, the balance control made sound out of both channels when you turned it all the way to left, nothing on the right side adjustment and the volume needed to be all the way up to hear anything at a normal level and turning the sound up defeated the hum it made when the volume was at lower levels.

      Thanks for sharing. We had one where you had to put a penny on the tonearm to keep the stylus on the record. I'm sure that was great for the vinyl.

      @@vintageaudioaddict that sounds like the one Sony rack system I had back in HS. Sometimes I needed 2 pennies to place on it. Eventually I got an Onkyo and I didn't need to do that anymore. Apparently the sound wasn't as good without the pennies on the tonearm. Go figure.

    OMG, What must I see @ 10:38...This method for the spray can is a lifesaver! When I remember how awful it is to reach into some potis most of the time - and it´s a real pain in the @ss then, this way of sticking various pipes into the original one, with different bendings and spray holes... This is awesome! But I am ashamed too. I am so old now, and being 60, I see an idea I didn´t have in mind myself so often. Normally I am proud of me for being innovative! And I am innovative because I am stingy and lazy! And just this technique here comes just from that: Being stingy with de-oxit fluid, and lazy due to not wanting to dismantle things just for a minimal amount! 😁😁

    I took the lazy route and, with PC as source, use a USB-C powered FiiO BTA30 Pro ($125) in DAC mode to my office Hitachi SR-503L + Marantz EQ20. The BTA30 Pro has RCA out (along with COAX in/out and Opt in/out) for direct connection to the receiver. It is a solid performing DAC.
    However, the BTA30Pro also supports both Receiving (RX) and Transmitting(TX) BT5.2. CODEC support includes LDAC, AptX, AptXHD, AptXLL, AAC, and SBC. Sometimes I go wireless TX mode in the office (FiiO BTR5 to IEM's, or BT5.2 Earhooks with IEM's ,or Earbuds), which the BTA30Pro supports flawlessly.
    My second BTA30Pro sits on top of a Hitachi SR-903 placed in the family room. In RX mode, I stream via Phone in LDAC (Android, dev mode); wonderful sound with that SR-903 paired to a set of new Dali Spektors.

    Nice mod, i own this receiver as well, and it sounds pretty good. It has that nice warmth, which some of the newer units don't. However i personally don't see too much sense in this mod, since you occupied 1 input. When you look at the back oft the unit it looks like you didn't (who is watching the back of it anyway?) but that input is occupied and cannot be used anymore. I personally use a BT receiver too, i just hooked it up to the AUX input, that BT receiver box is as small as a box of tic-tac, it can be hidden behind the receiver, nobody will ever notice. If you already build it in, you should make a switch, so you can switch between BT and AUX if necessary. Nice work BTW.

    One layman question on the BT module. Let's say I have all my inputs already allocated. Is it possible to hookup the module to AUX input and have something else plugged in that AUX input at the same time? So that AUX functions ina pass-through manner?

  • @JoeJ-8282
    @JoeJ-8282 Před rokem +2

    Nice addition there with that BT module.
    Although I probably would've done it slightly differently, probably with an additional switch, so as to make the actual Auxiliary input terminals still be useable also, and totally independently of the BT module, that way you could still add a CD player or other component to it too, and switch between that other source component and the BT module, plus, if I could, I would've tried to find a way to ONLY have the BT module powered ON IF you were actually using it, as when the input source switch(es) were set to actually listen to it.
    That brings me to another question I had about that BT module itself... You said that it had TWO audio connections on it, one that said "main" and one "auxiliary", so what is the "auxiliary" connection on the BT module used for? Is that an actual input that it switches between another source and itself, OR is that just another identical output connection for sending the same output signal to two different devices at the same time?

    • @vintageaudioaddict
      @vintageaudioaddict  Před rokem +3

      Thanks for watching. The aux on the BT card is an audio input terminal. I never tried that part of it. The Aux port still works on the 550. CD player works fine hooked to the Aux RCA plugs with the bluetooth module. The old and the new seem happy together. Of coarse you have a fight for the Aux port when you try to use them together.

    • @JoeJ-8282
      @JoeJ-8282 Před rokem

      @@vintageaudioaddict Well that's good at least. I just wonder about interference or additional noise of any kind, being added onto the auxiliary input by the BT module, especially if it's still connected to your phone, when/if you then try to use the RCA auxiliary input on that receiver with a CD player or other source component, just because it's usually not too good to have two or more active source outputs combined together without them "fighting" each other, especially when directly coupled together like that.
      I'm glad it works for you in that specific situation, but I probably still would've wired it slightly differently, and more independently selectable somehow.

  • @blackdaemon01
    @blackdaemon01 Před 10 měsíci

    I hope the BT receiver support at least AptxHD codec, otherwise it's not gonna sound very good. I did not find that information on Amazon product page.

    • @a.f.1587
      @a.f.1587 Před 3 měsíci

      I'm not really a pro in BT versions, but why would it sound bad without AptxHD? Even BT4.0 is cabable of pretty high speed, so you can stream CD quality FLAC through it... That is good enough in my opinion. We are talking about a budget receiver, no high-end. If you pair it with some nice speakers it will be a very good low-mid end system. You can try to send SACD stuff to it but that won't make too much sense, the receiver would be the bottleneck.
