  • This video "C02 C02 - Cleaning -- HOHNER Toolkits" shows how to clean a HOHNER Chromatic Harmonica.
    The HOHNER SERVICE WORKSHOPS HARMONICA are designed to show you what a quantum leap you can make if you learn to maintain and repair your instrument yourself. Once you've got the hang of it, you will own instruments which are priceless, because they are set up to reflect your requirements as a player.

    I thought this would be a great help to me... until I discovered that the reed plates in the 60 year old Super Chromonica I have are nailed/riveted on, not screwed. I guess there's only so much I can do to clean this one. A nice heirloom, though (and still a good video).

    • @bendowdy2438
      @bendowdy2438 Před 4 lety

      Those are small nails. My old Chromonica has them also. Just carefully pry the reedplate away from the wood comb with a flathead screw driver....CAREFULLY.

    Can you please do a much needed video on Melodica cleaning/maintenance? I understand why you used brand new harmonica for the demo (visual aesthetics), but an instrument in need of cleaning would have been more realistic-they can get very gunky, Brush your teeth or rinse before playing-•

      The 10-hole diatonic type favored by most blues and rock musicians. Yes, I would love to know how to safely disinfect a vintage Marine Band or Special 20 harmonica.

      @norfolknwhey4787 Před rokem

      If the wood isn’t sealed, you can’t sanitize a vintage harp. If the harp has an ABS or sealed comb, just take it apart, remove any build up, and dunk it in isopropyl.

    what can i do about the rattle at lowest (deepest) holes? is it always because of lose wind-savers? they don't seem to be lose! what else might be causing the vibrato- rattle on lowest (deepest) holes? how do i unblock the hole in the middle of the harmonica that sounds like it is blocked (plays "reluctantly").... i don't know what is blocking it but i presume it is saliva or something like that...what is the best way to unblock it?

    My grandmother has a Hohner Super Chromonica that she got when she was 15 as a birthday present. It no longer plays because it is so dirty... is there a service/restoration center close to Chicago area or where else could I get this restored? It's one of her most prized possesions and i'm nervous to ship it somewhere far away and it get lost.

    I have a Suzuki Manji Harmonica and I would like to have a kind of disinfecting cleaner, but I had read that some of them can damage the wood... which fluid cleaner do you recommend to use for my Harmonica
    Thanks...

    • @BoazKimMusic
      @BoazKimMusic Před 7 lety

      Giordano Fronte Hey. The Suzuki Manji has a composite comb made of wood resin and plastic. You can simply use water and soap or 91% ethynol alcohol for cleaning. The alcohol might take off the painted key marker and Suzuki label, though so be careful if that matters to you.

    i've done as hereby advised and i can't reassemble it now, it sounds all wrong, the slide has no resistance, i did not see slide spring, i've no idea where is it supposed to be…etc, etc….by the way: my IQ is extremely high, but this freaks me out…..can't focus on it, don't know where did I go wrong with it….i can experiment with slide and those two pieces that go around it 'till it sounds right (i suppose i have put it back the wrong way) but where is the slide spring? i did not see it, i never saw it, i have dismantled this thing on a very small balcony, and i could not possible lose this slide spring, whatever was in this harmonica must be somewhere on this very small balcony….but where is it? where was this slide spring supposed to be? i did not take out the reed plates, i couldn't if i want, i have the old model, i dont see all those screws that are here on this newer model, i dont know how could i unscrew the reed plates, this thing is making me mad….what shall i do with it now? anyone in london? can you take a look at this thing for me?
