Not really, Tegra chips run certain triple A titles better than xbone and ps4 on devices like the Nvidia shield. Depends what language the game is coded in of course. I assume this will use a newer version of the Tegra.
I think you mean the PS3 and Xbox One, that cheap isn't even close to the power of the PS4 or Xbox One.
Youre right i was mistaken its the last gen consoles that it outperforms significantly in the comparison i was remembering.
To be fair though, the tegra chip being compared was released in 2012 and Nvidia supposedly have a new one coming out that could be powering the Nintendo Switch, so who knows what its capable of. Even if its not on the level of the ps4 or xbone, it'll be one hell of a portable device.
Gareth Clarke It depends, I mean really high end smartphones could do the same if triple a titles target them, maybe all this will wake up the industry, I would hope it's the new Tegra chip but as they are being quiet on it I suspect it's the older ones with a few of the newer SOC modification done to it.
Also it wouldn't surprise me if this gets Apple and other Android manufacturers to do the same things with smartphone, it wouldn't take that much effort to do apart from getting triple a titles onboard.
no its not that simple guy lol.. Nvidia themselves said its a custom cpu they built for it that took over 500 man years of effort to build. Pretty much everything for it is new as far as tech design inside of the cpu. They started this years ago i.e. it would take much effort.
I mean what you honestly think it wouldnt take that much effort also considering the Patents Nintendo has within the Switch? Which of course there are slim ways around but still.

Sorry, but I find it hard to believe any grown or adolescent man could comfortably play that. The controllers are way too tiny.

the bigger problem is that it doesn't have a proper d-pad
they showed a black controller at 2:47 and that has a proper d-pad, but it''s most likely sold separately. Wouldn't be surprised if it's around the same price as an xbox controller.
Grown man here. The little joycons work surprisingly well. Plus, they're even more comfortable when you use the two as one controller, but separated from the unit. I can literally sprawl out, each arm/hand wherever I want and it's surprisingly comfortable. Of course, I did buy the pro controller and it is flawless. But man, the versatility here is amazing.
Ill wait for the Nintendo switch XL... psyche i'll be getting this on launch.

Yeah, so, you know all those things you can do in real life? Like go for walks, watch the sunrise, fly in an airplane, hang out in another city/country or join a rooftop party? You don't have to engage in any of that! Just play zelda indefinitely wherever you go!
Just think, if you buy this you can SWITCH your LIFE, from being in a job and doing ordinary things like paying bills, to being a jet setting Esports star, meeting beautiful women who will want to check out your equipment and play with you at the awesome rooftop parties you will suddenly be invited to.
You can embrace the life you always DREAMED of and escape those dreary walks with your dog.

Well, what do you expect to do flying in an airplane? Stare at the ceiling for 8 hours? I mean, the other things I agree with, but the flying thing it is certainly useful for. The main reason I love handhelds is so I can play all over my house, like laying in bed or while taking a crap. Don't really use them much in public tbh.

My point exactly. I think most people play games as entertainment when they're NOT busy doing something else. No matter how passionate you are about gaming, you have to remember your living in a real world as well.
For me Nintendo are concentrating TOO much on the portable aspect of Switch to sell the console.
One question, what's the battery life when you've "Switched" to portable mode? I doubt it'll be any good, especially if your on a flight.

wat? I'm so confused. So there are 4 different control schemes? dual wands, single wands (left and right version), attached to random square thingy, and pro controller? I think it's trying to do a bit too much at the same time
I think dual wands and random square thingy are same gameplay and stuff, just maybe one's more comfortable than the other according to opinion. Otherwise I think it goes with what you need the Switch to do. Want party gaming with easy controls and your best friend alongside you, single wands. Want to play games casually without the need for a pro controller, both on the go and at home, dual wands/square thing. Want to go deeper into a game and compete with the best configuration for competitive gameplay, pro controller.
Think the PS4 has it's standard controller (DS4), or if you want to play it away from your PS4, you've got to have a Vita or compatible remote play device, or if you want to ace SFV you get a fight stick. Same thing except Nintendo are making it more accessible to do all depending on your needs.

Concept is great. Now Nintendo need to hit the right price and actually put some money into marketing the system. Fingers crossed NVIDIA are putting their next gen TEGRA tech into this.
I'll believe it when we see it demo'd live... but let's think about this... the console is the handheld... the part you pull out of the charging station... is the console... doesn't that severely limit how much it can do?

+A5ylumPri5oner Not even close. Mobile chips have just cough up with last gen consoles (PCs from 2005/2006). They're far off from reaching the power of PS4 and Xbox One, let alone high end gaming PCs of today. Nintendo Switch is not going to be a powerful console, and that's okay, that's not the point of it. That hasn't been the point about Nintendo consoles since the Wii.
Pyramid Head the base will make it stronger as its been said in the past, and it's been projected that phones graphics in the next couple of years will be on par to pc gaming.
PC will always be better, thats why I have a PC. Cant carry a PC around in your pocket if you want to though, so as long as this plays decent third party games on the go it could be a winner.
All you have to do is think N64. Look at it as in the Switches case the Gamepad is the console and the docking station is a beastly made expansion pack with smart features. also meaning the docking station boosts the power

I get the name 'Switch' and why but couldn't it been a bit cooler? Still, I think they got a winner. I've heard 1080p at 60FPS? That in itself is an acomplishment over any of the other consoles but the graphics...too soon to tell.
I'll probably get it. I'm more of a PC gamer with a Wii U for family games but Zelda games are great and so are Mario games and the Xenoblades are great games as well. I will probably wait, might get Breath of the Wild for Wii U and probably get one of these at the end of next year. Skyrim remastered looks better on an ultrawide monitor.

No surprise Nintendo would push a portable device with them having so much luck with the 3DS but my thing is what is the battery life like for this? Is it improved? Also in terms of what is inside the thing it surely won't be as powerful as the Xbox One or the PS4 and that is disappointing. All I wanted was a competitor in the in the home gaming console wars and Nintendo failed here. As for the 3rd party companies they already have they have some big names stepping up to the plate but they will probably just put older titles not on the Wii U on this thing. Now do I like the way the games looked in the video? Some of them looked nice but many still looked like they had that usual Nintendo look which is inferior to what MS and Sony put out. Eh anyway graphics do not always make the game but I wish they would have at least tried here.
If memory serves, Nintendo always traded off the raw computing power in favor of a lower unit price to make it more accessible. Honestly, it's nice seeing that Nintendo still doesn't play the game of "build a small, cheap, PC in a plastic shell and call it a console."

The video featured adults but the removable controllers are for baby hands. they looked smaller than the original nes controllers. Great concept though but i'm afraid that's all it is. On the bright side Nintendo will have to license their ip's to the other consoles to survive.

Not that impressive to be honest with you, it's pretty much doing what a smartphone could do if developers released more triple a titles on smartphones and have an easy gamepad attachment to it, also an easy way to connect to the tv without the lag, which I have to wonder if smartphone company catch on, it wouldn't be that difficult for a lot of smartphones to do what Nintendo is trying to do but the advantage of smartphones is that most of us have one and the hardware upgrades all the time.

The hardware will probably be on par with the WiiU (no room for active cooling in there), complete with rehashed WiiU games. So basically Nintendo is trying to sell the same crap again, but targeting it to a hip & active young adult demographic with no children or elderly in sight in this launch trailer.

The tegra K already had potentially more power than xb360 and ps3. The tegra X definitely did, and the x2 has likely blown that one out of the water. So not really.
The only thing holding back the tegra K and X is the cpu it's paired with.

If the current Wii U were repackaged in that much prettier configuration, and there are many similarities, but with the controller wands being detachable from the screen, how many more people would be buying the Wii U?
After all, the Wii U's screen plays as a standalone or "docked" to the tv as well. Essentially the same concept. The implementation just looks much edgier.
Diablo1303 The tegra x2 had potentially 80% the power of the ps4 or xbone. If this chip is more powerful than that, this will likely be close to on par.
Diablo1303 And this one's implementation actually lets you take the system more than 10 feet away from your tv, because the system is behind the screen. This is nothing like the wii U besides looks.

Nintendo why. Please licence your games to Sony/Microsoft and stop trying to make hardware. Since the GameCube it's been down this shithole when it comes to a traditional console experience. They already have hugely successful DS handhelds, why alienate the marketplace where that and mobile phones occupy already?

Sorry guys, It looks great and will probably do well in Japan, where its a mobile heavy marketplace and they will get all the Japanese games, but worldwide I doubt it will have the same appeal.
Once they release some actual details, specs, price, battery life and CONFIRMED support, then maybe I can be convinced, but I already have a Wii U for Zelda BOTW!
I'd rather they dedicate themselves to the handheld world. They need to stop trying to be in the home console market. They suck at it. Horribly. Focus on the next big thing in handheld, rather than this guaranteed to fail half handheld half console gimmick that's basically the next shitty iteration on the Wii U.

The games that you've seen running on the Tegra K1 processor are old ass games, no shit they'll run well. Try running a modern AAA game on the tegra. A GTX 950, which is an old, low end card, is 3 times as powerful as the K1. Even if This new Nvidia processor on the Switch is more powerful (which is unlikely), it's not going deliver half the performance a PS4 does. Do some research before misinforming people.
They do run better though, and games that the ps4 struggles to get 60 fps on as well. Certain languages work better on different architecture is what I'm saying, and Nintendo have consistently proven to get more bang for the buck out of their worse hardware every generation. And lol, if people take youtube comments as informative then thats their issue not mine.
If I want power people should buy a PC, you'll get more power for the price of the ps4 pro. If I'm gunna get a console I'd like it to be portable and play games I can't already play on PC.
Does anyone not think that smartphone manufacturers could do exactly the same thing we just saw in that youtube clip, most of us have smartphones, if they pushed for more triple a games on them and gives us decent controllers and easy ways of connecting to the tv, a smartphone could do pretty much what we just saw and better yet most of us have one and they are upgradeable.
