    just turned 13 and beating college sprinters unreal, she also beat the best HS sprinters in the country at the Nike invitational, she was the only Junior High age runner invited. The kid was training on a dirt track in rural Western Kansas.

      Hmm, came back to correct an error in my last comment but it's been deleted. Never said anything bad, so I'm puzzled. Anyway, this event happened in April 2022. For some reason it doesn't show up as a result on World Athletics.

      @@MrBeevee5 - I believe her birthday is in October, so she will be 14 when she starts high school and 18 when she graduates.
      Probably one of the older students in her class, but certainly appropriate for her grade.

    Everybody will be pulling you from different directions and telling you where you should go. Go where you will feel the most at home that also has great coaching. You do not need me to tell you this but, train hard and always look for ways to improve and always remember that there is someone out there who is working just as hard, if not harder, that wants to be able to say they are the best and make you and everyone else look bad. Do not let magazine interviews, etc. interfere with your focus.

    I've ran track (a loooong time ago) and watched alot of track meets. This is probably the first time I've ever seen a 100m ran in that direction. Weird.
    Anyway, good race. Hard to believe she's only a 7th grader. Hopefully she has a bright future (scholarship practically guaranteed if she keeps this up).

    Some people are fully developed at 13!! I had a cousin like that he was huge for a 7th grader!! But unfortunately didn't grow any after 7th grade!! She seems to be about 95% fully there.

    This is an unreal accomplishment. This fact also seems to have been lost on the announcer. Side note: Not sure what the point of wanting to be behind a microphone is when you show so little enthusiasm or insight for the event you're covering. Yes, . . . . we all know what a false start DQ is.

    To leave it up to the starter to disqualify a runner for a false start and at least not give them at least one false start is draconian to say the least, they are certainly not doing it on purpose.

      NCAA has always allowed unattached athletes to compete. They usually have to get an invitation, though. I was invited to all the college meets I entered.

      This is a concern of mine because I peaked in my athletic performance at 14. It can happen. Up until then I was winning meets, never at Pearce’s level obviously but still National, and then slowly other teen girls started overtaking me, some of whom are now elite athletes in adulthood. Despite my best efforts, lots of training and comps, I just plateaued. I was a sprinter too. One of my coaches said they’d seen a lot of teenagers burn out in their time. Sometimes it can actually be a risk to be the freak at a super young age. Obviously I hope this is not the case for this girl. I would love to see her be the next Usain Bolt!
