    • @amberkat8147
      @amberkat8147 Před 2 lety +3

      @@kelseycollins9773- There is no requirement to follow what the AKC wants. Since most dogs aren't going to be shown, it makes no sense to dock the tails or crop the ears, and frankly that should be banned in the U.S. like it is in some other countries unless there's some practical use for it. I know that for some working dogs a tail can be a liability, but if the dog's going to be a family pet then the only reason if is there's some horrible accident. I don't really believe in showing dogs or in maintaining breeds since all that does is encourage inbreeding and the perpetuation of various genetic disorders and breeds that really have no business existing anyway. I don't hate any specific dog just because they have health issues, but humans shouldn't have created breeds that can hardly breed or give birth on their own or are plagued by respiratory problems, etc. It was selfish and irresponsible of us to do that. A puppy or kitten shouldn't be born barely able to breath because some humans find their flat faces adorable, for example. They deserve better than that.

      Fortunately, I didn't watch that far thanks to your comment. Docking dogs' tails is illegal in the UK. It's a repulsive practice and the lame justifications for it are extremely weak and unconvincing reasons. It's been really good to see dogs like Jack Russells and other commonly docked dogs with tails since docking was banned. I always felt sorry for dogs wagging a little stump.
      I look forward to the day when no dog has to experience this mutilation.

      Most corgis get their tail docked for aesthetics and competition. It's also said they can develop spine issues later in life.. but I'm not exactly sure how it's linked to their tails. I have one and a half year old corgi and he doesn't have any problems so far from keeping his(neither does his parents). We asked to keep his because it's natural and you can see a lot more of his personality😊

    • @ladyshrink22222
      @ladyshrink22222 Před 4 lety +4

      Jacob originally done so whatever they were herding didn’t step on their tail and rip it off, causing them to bleed out. I still breed Corgis who herd.
      This is something people get hung up on, the dogs don’t. If you want a Pembroke as a pet, you can ask the breeder not to band the tail. But be prepared to pay up front the entire cost of the puppy as Pems can’t be shown with a tail.

    • @BigMads1453
      @BigMads1453 Před 4 lety +2

      Some breeders in the US don’t dock tails, it just depends who you get your pup from. Even so, a docked tail is a characteristic of the corgi breed. I personally don’t mind if their tails are docked or not but stop saying “don’t buy dogs without tails” when it’s a major characteristic of the breed lmao.

    • @pegstock9764
      @pegstock9764 Před 4 lety +5

      I realize that some dog breeds have naturally docked tails, but if they are born with a tail, why dock. It seems pointless, just a standard that humans have put on the breed. For instance Swedish Vallhunds, another herding breed, standard allows for long, stub, or no tail. Why not apply to corgis also. Most corgis are pets or show dogs anyway, no reason to dock since most don't work cattle. Besides Pems with tails are so cute.

      It's illegal here in the UK and there is no justification for it. It's cruel and disabling. Tails are an important means of communication for dogs and, apart from anything, tails are great. I'm glad my dog didn't have her tail chopped off. I love to see her wag it when she's happy.

      corgis are herding dogs and if used for that purpose it is extremely dangerous to keep their tails... tails are an extension of the spine and if they get stepped on it can break the dogs back causing paralysis or death. as someone who also is a huge fan of bushy tails but lives on a farm and almost lost their last dog to getting their tail stepped on, i reluctantly had my corgi puppy’s tail docked for her own safety. but you are correct in that there’s no reason to dock it if the puppy won’t be around larger animals

      @JadeHammy Před 2 lety +4

      @@joshuarosen6242 you're wrong. Corgis a specific herding breed. It's true its not necessary to dock if they aren't herding but their tails get docked so they don't get injured herding. Corgis in America need to have docked tails to be registered as AKC.

      @@JadeHammy I'm well aware that Corgis were bred as cattle herding dogs but they are almost never used for that purpose any longer so there is absolutely no justification for mutilating them in this repugnant way.
      If they are required to be docked by the AKC, firstly that is no justification and secondly, it shows how much the AKC cares about dogs' well-being.
      Docking is wrong.

      「Dreamy バン」 leaving the tail on does not cause any back problems. DM (Degenerated Myelopathy) is a genetic issue in the breed. That is where the spinal issues come from. Zero to do with the tail and all to do with the breed standard which is based on the working Corgi. Pembroke Corgis were bred short to avoid kicks from cows and tails are docked to keep them from being stepped on. Hope this clears it up.
