      Thank you very much for your reaction, for all for the free Patreon video. I have to correct the comment of "Toker J". The Radio was not completely forbidden in the former GDR, but "special music", for all Alice Cooper and Co. Some stuff was also very hard to get and for example vinyl from Kiss or Alice Cooper and others, for all from artists of the west, was forbidden and therefore only available on the "black market", or when relations and friends from the west could smuggle it into the east part of Germany. Why I know that? My Cousin had friends already at that time in East Germany as the wall still was standing. He is from Switzerland and from time to time he visited them with some gifts. But he told me, that you had to be very careful with it. I am from Austria by the way and my appologize, if I have some mistakes right now, because it is nearly 1am in the morning and my native language is German, means my "English Brain part" is not working as good at this late hour, but I had the feeling, that I need to write this.

    Rammstein are never afraid to sing about subjects that most people avoid like the plague-Mein Teil, Weisses Fleisch, Weiner Blut, for example. It's a bizarre back story by anyone's standards tbh. Armin Meiwes was a member of a cannibal forum and advertised for a man to volunteer to be eaten-enter Brandes. Meiwes was initially convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 8 years but after a re-trial where the evidence of him having eaten a fair amount of Brandes' flesh was considered, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to life behind bars. He's now a vegetarian. The video, for me, is a representation of the Meiwes mind fracturing and fighting itself while his mother (Frau Schneider ) looks on disapprovingly. Disturbing, dark, unsettling and absolutely brilliant. The Hurricane Festival performance adds another dimension to it, absolutely stunning performance.

    Here’s an easy way for English speakers to remember how to pronounce the ein/ien in German words- you say the last vowel. So mein is mine (as in saying the letter i). Any word that has ien would be pronounced with an ee sound.
    So, RamshtINE, Mine Tile etc. I get that Americans of German ancestry/with German surnames often pronounce it differently, so it’s understandable that it would be difficult to figure it out. After all, it should be Wine-stine (for that repugnant former movie producer), not wine-steen. So when the same letter combination is pronounced two different ways in the same name, that’s gotta be confusing.
    But in German, just remember to say the name of the last letter when it comes to the ien/ein words.

    Since you reacted to "Heroes" by David Bowie in the past, could you please react to both his German Version "Helden", and the cover of said German Version, by Apocalyptica feat. Till Lindemann(who is Rammstein's singer in case you don't know yet).
    It gets overlooked by way to many reaction channels, but since you obviously know "Heroes" by David Bowie, it'd be cool if you could do a reaction to both Bowie's own German version, and the cover of it by Apocalyptica & Till.

    Ei sound i think allways sounds like i in english, but u can hear it in the song. So its not an e followed by an i, its one sound: ei. Just like in the word rammstein the ei is the same and u pronounce it correctly ( but the s in rammstein isnt like in “sun” but rather like in “fish” for example. Its a rule for words starting with st (here stein=stone)).

    "Teil" is most often translated with "part" which isn't the best choice in this case, it should better be translated with "tool"; so "mein Teil" means "my tool, my machine, my thing, my penis". And the combination of the two letters "ei" in German are spoken like the "i" or the "y" in the English words "by", "try", "fly", "fine", "shine", "ride". So try the words: Teil, mein, Bein (leg), frei (free), klein (small), nein (no), Stein (stone), weiß (white), Zeit (time).

    • @BobWitlox
      @BobWitlox Pƙed 2 lety

      Indeed this double meaning of Teil is often missed by English speakers. I think the English equivalent would be member. So my member / my part.

  • @saurophaganax_0

    They're not really into the shock value though. To better understand them, you must know that Rammstein's band members grew up in east Germany in the times of the DDR, Teather was one of the main sources of entertainment, this part of their culture stayed with them and their music, as well as their very rebellious attitude since most if not all of them were big time Punks. They've always been like this, and the fact they're constantly censored by modern German government just makes them go further.
